  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) First off, THe Orioles are complete idiots if thats true so I have my doubts as to whether thats true. Maybe they wanted more than Tejada, who knows. But if its true, get on the phone Kenny and offer them Brandon McCarthy and whoever else they want for Oswalt (if they also are intrigued with Garcia/Buehrle/Vazquez) than give them both. If its Buehrle/Bmac than thats it, no more, if its Garcia or Vazquez and McCarthy I'd still give up Broadway or Fields and a guy like Valido. Oswalt is an ace and would give us what we need and would help us more than just this year. I agree. BMAC would be on the first plane out if we could get Oswalt.
  2. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) Well, if KW is going to do something, which I doubt he will, he better get on his horse. Three hours left. There are many options to weigh. Tradables: Vaz Garcia Cotts (seriously) Gload Ozuna Cintron Prospects We have a little bit of something something to offer. He is out there seeing what he can get. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) Sox would need a long man if Bmac was to be moved into the rotation. If Freddie was to pull a groin covering first base in the second inning, a bullpen full of closers might not cut it. Offering Lidge at the last minute might be a good move for Huston. There may be a last minute bidding war where the GM's don't really have time to consider things carefully. Riske can pitch several innings if needed. As could cotts.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) Think of how our pen would work out. We would have 4 guys that can throw 97 or higher at the back end of our pen. Lidge for the 6th McDougal for the 7th Thornton for the 8th Jenks for the 9th. Get to the 6th with a lead and its over. I think Lidge could handle the 6th inning. All have different stuff as well. Lidge is a slider guy. McD is effective.y wild with several different fastballs, Thorton throws an easy 98 from the LH side, and jenks has a hook, change, cutter and 100 mph heat. You would think a NL team would bite on Vaz. LAD, Hou, Mets, someone has to bite.
  4. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) agreed 150 percent. Lidge, MacDougal, Thornton, Jenks, Riske WOW Lidge would bring a nice slider in the mix. If I was Hou, I would look at Vaz as a possibility, just because he will lose around a point in his ERA at least moving to that division.
  5. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 03:45 AM) I miss Baskin Robbins. I miss when they had 31 flavors... Coldstone is pretty good, on my advice though, buy a cake, they are better than the actual ice cream.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Ick. That place is nastee... Scores on North Ave is OK, but pricey. Diamonds has cute chicks (better than Scores, imo) but again costs too much. They all cost too much actually. Go pick up a good DVD and a 12 pack. Agreed. Chicago's laws make the clubs around here suck, epsecially in the city limits like VIP's etc. Skybox is ok, Diamonds has some decent suburbanite chicks. Polekatz has improved, but all of them pretty much arent great.
  7. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) We were once interested in Brad Lidge but I have to think the price would be such (current big league talent) that unles they'd do Vazquez for Lidge that we won't be in it Why wouldnt they do a deal like that? Vaz belongs in the NL, especially the NL central. He could be a middle of the rotation guy in that division. You trade Vaz for someone, a reliever like Lidge, then move BMAC into the rotation and we already improved a ton.
  8. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 10:07 AM) Babe Ruth Shelton got sent down??? Wasn't he the guy who was gonna hit 130 HR this year???? WHY WOULD THEY SEND DOWN THE BIGGEST SLUGGER IN THE MLB???????? Guess they gave up on looking for left handed power, and just settled for someone who hits left handed.
  9. The mets wouldnt get much out of Kip wells thats for sure. It would be a move just to make a move. If they want to win the WS, they have to make a big splash.
  10. QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) Wait, people would actually trade Bmac? I can't believe it. I like the guy just as much as anyone else, but the way Soxtalker's feel about him, they think he is the next Roger Clemens or Sandy Koufax. Besides a deal for Oswalt, is there anyone else we would trade BMac to? I've been pondering this thought for a while. He isn't worth Soriano or Tejada to most people here, so who is he worth? Oswalt is probably a better pitcher than BMAC will ever be. I would trade BMAC for overpriced middle infielders who have lost a step in the field, nor a rental LF'er. We also dont need offense, our offense is great. We need pitching in the worst way.
  11. QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 09:18 AM) I would give McCarthy, Fields, Sweeney, whoever they'd like for Oswalt. And then give him a 100 year deal. I would do that as well. The O's were looking to trade Tejada with Oswalt being the centerpiece of the trade, then flip him to someone for young players. I would flip BMAC and fields for him easily.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) I haven't seen anyone that's solely blamed Jenks for the loss. However, he did blow the save today. He does deserve a lot of the blame. It's his job to get the final 3 outs of the game, and he didn't. He's struggled recently, and we need him to get confidence in his curveball again. He's been great this year though, and we'd be in a lot of trouble if he didn't contribute the way he has so far. 2 blown saves puts him in elite territory IMO. Im ok with the loss.
  13. Honestly, when you look at this team, we are the most talented and experienced in our division. We just had a slump and are pulling out of it.
  14. Oh well, didnt get the sweep. Good series by us, and time to look for a sweep in the next series.
  15. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Not necessarily a moron, but is the general manager of a desperate team. Desperate how? Trading an all star pitcher, and one of the cornerstones of our rotation for years, for an ok player? We should offer Pods for Zito, thats a fair trade as well.
  16. RockRaines

    Zito?

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) In order to get Zito, I'm sure guys like Fields and Broadway were the prospects involved. You're not getting Zito for Garcia and Owens, etc. Yup, and it would be a rental. Zito's agent is Boras, and he will get top dollar on the FA market. So we would be taking on salary as well if we wanted to keep him.
  17. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) Yeah we should ban him for life and murder his children. Im in on that. Waste of a post really.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 05:37 PM) your going way 2 overboard on this..... you suggested something rather dumb and a poster called you out for it. Everyone at some point suggests something dumb especially when it comes to baseball... it wasnt anything personel. ^^^^^^^^ he tried to rebuff by being humerous. It didnt work. retarded idea, even worse response.
  19. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) I would love to get Coco and have him in CF and BA in Left....that would improve the defense majorly... BA is better in CF, and Coco is better in LF. THAT would improve the defense.
  20. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 09:45 AM) I've always been in Gload's corner. I havent, still think we dont need him. Big hit though.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 12:35 AM) If the money is there. And we do have it now, so it's at least worth a shot. He would be one of the best players on the team. The guy is a stud, and was a star amongst stars in the WBC. We should put all of our resources out there to get him.
  22. QUOTE(SadChiSoxFanOptimist @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 11:50 AM) Rock, can I come out now? No.
  23. QUOTE(SadChiSoxFanOptimist @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Anyone think there would be a market for Paulie -- perhaps this winter? Aside from his leadership/character and some recent adroit defensive plays, I think that Paul exemplifies what needs to change about this team: He's a slow-footed, HR-focused and rally-killer with a $60 million contract. It hurts to be so negative about such a great guy without whom we'd not be World Champs. Hahahahaha. Go lock yourself in the closet, and dont come out.
  24. Why cant we go after him? We wona ring with two of the most popular Cuban players in MLB history, and arguable have the biggest Cuban star heading our rotation. You better believe that has an effect on where these guys will go.
