QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 01:44 AM) A good move by the Sawks. A good hitter for the position, and adequate in the field (figure about 20% cs, his cera is about the team average -- a little better in 2004 and 2006, a little worse in 2005). Well, he doesnt really catch that much anymore, he was a DH,1B for awhile. If they plan on starting him every day at C, I would expect an injury.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) I agree on that, but I don't know if he's going to learn that lesson the way it needs to be learned if he's not facing big league hitters. He gets into Washington, or Pittsburgh, San Fran, or even Tampa/K.C., gets to deal with a ML pitching coach, gets a routine, and gets to face guys that can really hurt him, and I bet he'll pick it up pretty quick. Its possible. But the knuckler isnt that much like pitching as we know it. The key is consistency of delivery more than anything, and he is really only going to learn that after time. The question is whether you want this time to come from getting slapped around at the big leagues, or befuddling minor league hitters.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Uh, Rock, I'm 23. I'm not that much of a salty old man. I'm just saying that most of the SNL produced films were total pantloads (Roxbury, Superstar, Ladies Man etc.) Will Ferrell's time on SNL was funny but I liked the humor better when Farley and Hartman were doing the same style of things. Yes, I'll agree that some sketches like Jeopardy! were funny -- but that was as much Hammond carrying the bit as Connery than anything else. Calling something the glory days doesn't necessarily mean a long time ago. It just means a time when the sketches were actually funny -- which is something SNL hasn't been since the mid-90s. Im older than you, and people of our age group, at least people I went to school with thought that many of those films are hilarious. Maybe you are just a salty man? The 90's were a good time, but when they burst on the scene people were saying that they werent as funny as the 80's and the 70's etc etc. its the same pattern over and over again. Glory days is just a rosy memory of things past.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) I still think Haeger should be starting in the big leagues...not with us, but with someone, preferably (for him) in the NL. If not this season, then certainly to start next year. Yeah, his inability to throw strikes will keep him from that stage. It will take him a few years.

Please start our regular lineup with BA in CF. -
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) Thanks. It seems Haeger's ERA is now up to 3. Wasn't he under 1 when he was first called up? And Broadway's at 2.77, that's nice. Neither are ready for the show. Look at more than their ERA to determine their worth.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) "But it's a different kind of war." I think you could make a case for the early 90s (if you appreciate slapstick humor) with Farley, Spade and some of the early Ferrell/Tim Meadows work as to when it stopped being funny...with those guys being the last gasps of laughter to come out of that show. But SNL has jumped the shark. I dunno if they can do anything to get it back on track to remotely rival the hilarity of the glory days. It's become an institution and it is crumbling right now with "Night at the Roxbury was funny for about 2 minutes on the show. We gotta make a 90+ minute cinematic offering of it! It'll be gold!" mindset, the poor writing, the lack of hunger on the part of Lorne Michaels to create a quality staff that is actually funny and poor execution by the stars during the show (i.e. breaking character and laughing at every damn line) Alot of salty old men on this board. Roxbury was hilarious, many people in my gerneration love the movie. The 90's were funny, and Farrell's whole time there was unreal it was so funny. Yeah the old 70's had some good humor, but to each generation has its own set of jokes etc. Calling certain time periods the "glory days" really just means it was a long time ago. Between great casts there is always a lull. Its just the period afterwards which makes it worth it.

Thank you email is pretty clutch. Also maybe a follow up call in a week if you havent heard anything. People love when you follow up. It makes you seem organized and motivated. It depends on the job, but sometimes 1 week, sometimes several months.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) That was the homer, the one in the 7th inning was low and away. He hit that one to left center. So dont pitch inside or outside, and we will win?

The pitching is tired. What did everyone expect? We had guys with the highest load of innings last year, and two guys in the WBC. They are extremely tired, and our offense is not very consistent. We just have to hope that we can pull of the WC and hope we get hot in the playoffs. Thats our only hope.

QUOTE(Allsox @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) Quotes like this one from Freddy after the game doesn't help lighten the mood either: "I never pitch good here, but today I thought I pitched good," Garcia said. "In seven innings, we scored two runs. What can I say?" HOW ABOUT SAYING I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SHUT DOWN THE WORST BASEBALL TEAM IN THE LEAGUE? Friggin moron First of all they are not the worst team in baseball. Secondly they have been one of the hottest offensive team in baseball this month. its not their offense that is terrible, its their pitching. And we couldnt hit it last night.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) I don't want to hear one fishing person suggest Garcia's outting was good except for "the wind blown HR." It doesn't matter whether or not mother nature assisted the pitch. I'm tired of the excuses to justify poor performances. If I don't have to hear it I'll be a happy person. What was wrong with his performance? I think he battled pretty good.

Crede is the best fielder on the team, and one of the best hitters. He is a top notch 3B IMO, and shoudl have a GG by the end of his career.

BMAC has alot of elbow strain, but does come over the top which isnt as bad.

QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) I would argue that, but I'm too lazy/tired He is, there is no doubt about it.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) Off topic, but Ortiz is baseball's best clutch hitter. Dusty Baker was a ridiculous clutch hitter.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) Right. I also noticed the temperatures have gotten very hot in Chicago since Thome hurt his wrist. Must be a correlation there too. Whats the point of the post?
