Anything up for Friday's Cubs vs Sox game?

QUOTE(SnB @ May 15, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) i'm just looking forward to the complete mismatch these series are going to be. lets hope. IN pervious years, the underdog usually has the advantage. Of course the Cell should be more one-sided fanwise than previous years. -
damn, prob woulda been out of the cell

QUOTE(bmags @ May 14, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) this whole case was ridiculous As is everyone who was calling me an asshole for calling this case what it is.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 15, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) He really waited on that curveball. That was an impressive hit and its one he wouldn't have had a year ago. he would have swung under it. With his high hand position this year he was able to swing down on that ball and lift it into RF.

wow, what a wasted oppurtunity

Ah, needed big jim right there.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 15, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) I figure that Rogowski will be the trade bait this year. Fields will be converted to a corner OF position if Crede is signed long term. How much value could Rogo bring though? Fields is younger with a higher ceiling.
-
Man, fields is raking. Great trade bait for sure. He would either play 3B (crede) 1B (kong) or corner OF positions. I guess its a good problem to have. I wonder if he can play 2B?

Report: Dolan to buy out Larry Browns contract

Apparently we are in talks with the knicks and are going to trade them Gordon? -
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 15, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) I think they have a good team, even w/o Lee. You can't blame injuries. Look at the Cardinals last year. They lost Rolen and still did good. The Braves played 18 rookies and still won. The Yankees have lost Godzilla and Sheffield. Heck, even the 2004 Cubs did good w/o Wood and Prior. Injuries are a part of any sport and you have to deal with it WHo is good out side of DLEE? Pierre? A-ram? Todd Walker? Their OF is led by a Rookie, the other two are underachieving players past their prime. The left side of the infield is suspect, and the catcher hasnt called a decent game in his career. The team is devoid of anybody who can get on base at a decent clip, and the manager thinks walks just clog the bases. They are horrible.

I had to give up all my tickets because I have to go to a wedding. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 15, 2006 -> 08:41 AM) I still think Robertson blows, however I think Maroth and Bonderman are for real, and Rogers is still a solid veteran and Robertson is a decent bottom of the rotation guy. Combine that with those giant guys throwing 98 outta their pen and the Tigers lineup and you have a threat IMO. Should be a hell of a race . Rogers sucks in the 2nd half, and both of those guys will regress to their career numbers.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 15, 2006 -> 05:07 AM) Strange game. I will add on to that. The ESPN announcers, when talking about Thome's mom, flat out said "she died." Usually when someone is talking about that on national TV, they will say she passed, or she left us. Nope, "Thome's mom died last season. And the next pitch is a strike outside."

QUOTE(Felix @ May 12, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) I mainly hate them because they are overpriced with a horrible battery (it probably has improved over time, but it still doesn't last that long compared to Creative players IIRC), yet are widely considered the best thing since sliced bread in the public eye. well, the ipod has revolutionized the way people listen and share music. MP3 players were around before the IPOD, I had the creative jukebox for example. But ipod's interface, and portability really increased awareness and the useability of MP3's as a whole.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 12, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) Just to add my 2 cents, I think that both of you are right to a certain extent. At this point, I think Anderson has better jumps on the ball and a better arm while Rowand has better instincts and has that ability to make great plays. Sure, it's easy to say that Anderson is better than Rowand because BA is on the Sox. If BA was a Philly and Rowand was on the Sox, and BA made the same play, we'd all be saying that Rowand is a better fielder. Rowand just has that toughness that everyone likes. Let me put it this way, if I had to choose between BA and ARow to make 1 play, I'd take Anderson. And as far as arm strength and accuracy, it's undoubdtedly in favor of BA. That throw he made from right center to 3rd on a 1 hop the other night was fantastic and stopped the runner from taking the extra base. You just have to love the fact that BA will be there. He'll dive when he needs to but the fact is that he doesn't need to dive that much because he camps under the ball. I mean, come on, Rowand never made any "cans of chef boyardee." I like the way you think there.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 12, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) Hawk Harrelson has officially brain-washed the White Sox fan-base. You're a HOFer/MVP/god when you're in a ChiSox uniform, but as soon as you leave the franchise, you become overrated/awful/POS. I would hope nobody would call Rowand's defense bad. He is one of the top 5 IMO.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 12, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) You're right, maybe I should start watching the games instead of just pretending I do because you know I'm just pulling all this out of my ass, I'm actually a Dodger fan, don't watch a lot of American league baseball. Easy killer, I was defending myself from your inference that I didnt watch the games. In no way was I implying that you didnt.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 12, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) Yes, he was a pitcher which doesn't mean a lot. Arm strength is a very subjective thing and I'm not really sure where you've seen Anderson throw from deep in the OF. I don't remember him getting many oppertunities to do that. How about last week? The week before that? Ive been to almost every home game this year, save 2 or 3, and I watch the games. I love Rowand, as a person, and as a player. But he had certain weakness in the field, one being the line drive straight at him, another being the short blooper, and another is his arm strength. I believe Anderson is better at all 3 areas.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 12, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) It has been stated a few times in atleast one of the many thread that discusses Brian Anderson's defense. Also, I disagree on arm strength I'd say at the very least Rowand and Anderson have equal arm strength where as Anderson has better accuracy. It seemed last year that Rowand lost all of his accuracy on throws to home and just ended up hitting the back of the mound on every throw. No way, Anderson has above average arm strength, while Rowand is average IMO. Anderson is not only more accurate but can throw from deep in the OF. Wasnt he a pitcher in college as well?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 12, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) The reason players like Anderson and Kotsay get over hyped defensively while guys like Rowand and Hunter get underrated is through peer pressure. It's a lesser form but still very appearant, one person says Kotsay is the best defensive center fielder in the AL, Rowand gets s***ty jumps and Torii Hunter has lost a step and suddenly people start latching on to this while ignoring the blatant visual evidence that proves otherwise. Soooooo, you are saying a rookie who just broke into the league is "overhyped" while a player who has been aquired to solidify a defensive outfield is "underrated?" I dont even think that makes sense. The blatant visual evidence is that Anderson gets to the short balls than A-row let drop, and gets to the deep balls quicker. At the same time he has a stronger arm. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 12, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) The fact that he's 42 games into his pro career and already being considered better than Torii Hunter is a joke. He's a very good defensive centerfielder right now but I'm going to have to see a larger body of work from him before I start proclaiming him a top 2 defensive CF in baseball. Who said he was better than Torii Hunter?

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 12, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) Because he truly isn't. Do you know what range factor is? Put outs + assists... very, very dependant on the time of pitchers your team has... ground ball/ fly ball pitchers. Do you know what zone rating is? Zone Rating, which is basically a measure of what percentage of the balls landing in a fielder’s zone he successfully fielded. Once again, they are forced to make static assumptions about where each fielder is responsible for covering. It is blindingly obvious to the average fan that there are many situations in which the shortstop is not fielding in the standard “zone” where you would expect him to be fielding, and even worse, there are sometimes whole teams where one defensive player takes control of his unit and becomes an on the field leader, causing the other members of his unit to yield to him on shared plays and damaging their zone ratings unfairly. Going by these two stats means very little when things are said and done. Rowand will have more win shares.... will have more fraa and the majority of baseball fans know who is the better fielder currently, even though anderson has potential to be a better fielder... if he stays in the league with his bat that is.... yes I know what all the stats mean, and that is basically one of the only stats that we can use to compare fielding. You werent taking objective views, you wont take statistics, what will you take? Qwerty's? ANderson is better in the field, you can stay loyal all day long to Rowand, but from my baseball experience and knowledge I notice a significant amount of differences, mainly range, arm strength and jumps. I always though Rowand took the best routes to the ball I had ever seen. Well Anderson gets there about 2 seconds before Rowand ever did. He also doesnt have to play as shallow because of this, which allows him to get to more balls. He is superior in the field, no question.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 12, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) I'm surprised Cub fans don't protest after today's game. I've had a blast watching it thus far. Barrett is whining on the field, players are forgetting how many outs there are, Guzman and Rusch have been terrible--it's been glorious. they dont even know the rules of the field. When the ball gets stuck in the ivy, dont go after it moron.
