QUOTE(qwerty @ May 12, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) All i see is the hyping of anderson and how rowand was not really that good of a fielder while here ( even though he was one of the 2/3 best outfielders defensively the two years he started for the white sox). Rowand will be superior in every single defensive category ( except maybe assists...) over anderson. But that will still not be enough. Rowand is a very good defensive player, but already Anderson is beating him statistically. Why cant you accept the fact that Anderson is better in the field?

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 12, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) I knew this would happen as soon as we traded rowand. People would start talking down rowand's defense and hyping anderson... anderson in all reality is not a better fielder than rowand at this point. He just isn't. The only reason 98% of this board will make that claim is because one is currently on the white sox and the other isn't. well since you wont take objective views comparing the two, would you take statistical proof? BA is ranked second in the MLB for Range factor with a 3.41 (sizemore has 3.22, gathright 3.51) Rowand is 15th with 2.36. In ZR he is above him as well. Thats about as close as we can get for stats. But I think just watching the two play, its pretty obvious that BA has better range, better arm, better jumps, and positions himself better.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 12, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) Why is that exactly? I'm not exactly keen on a CF with a sub .800 OPS. It has been proven statistically that Hunter ~ Rowand. He's an upgrade over Anderson at this point in time but in the long run and considering the cost, it would not be worth it. Well, our lineup this year is better than last year's correct? And adding a bat like Tori's would make it even better correct?
-
You gotta think though, that this team would be unstoppable with Tori Hunter in CF. 1.Pods 2.Gooch 3.Thumb 4.Kong 5.Dye 6.Aj 7.Crede 8.Hunter 9.Uribe

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 12, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) I wonder what the record is for the oldest guy to ever get a drug suspension. its for his arthritis. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 12, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) He's pushing for expansion. We'll probably end up adding 2 new teams over the offseason. Nice.

what teams are avail knight? I thought we were full.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 12, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) So, no one has answered me yet as to whether or not a guy can get away with wearing one of those Rip Hamilton style masks in baseball? never even heard of it happening.

f***ing awesome article CC, thanks for the read.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 12, 2006 -> 09:58 AM) I say if Brian continues to struggle with the bat, Kenny should look to get his hands on Torii Hunter, come the trade deadline. Then we could look to sign him for 3-4 years. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for seeing what Brian can do, but Torii will probably be available come July. The Twins don't have the horses this year, and probably won't want to pay him. We'd have to give up BA then.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 12, 2006 -> 09:53 AM) ARow generally plays deeper than BA. I doubt that he would have 'caught that with ease'. BA covers way more ground than ROwand. The catches that A-row made in stride last year, BA gets there, stops, re-ties his glove strings and makes the catch.

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ May 12, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) nice avatar rock thanks Abe!

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 11, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) I don't like Gino's East's crust. It's like cornmeal or something. I don't recall it being that way when I went to the original one many years ago, but that was many years and beers ago, so maybe it was like that. Yeah, I believe they changed the crust to that new kind a little while ago. i dont like it either.

The best thing i saw from philly fans is that Rowand requested padding on that metal bar at the beginning of the season, and the fans are up in arms on how its amazing they havent installed it yet.
-
I can only guess what AJ and Crede were texting Rowand with after he broke his nose.
-
Have you seen the fan reaction to Rowand. The guy is a great player on and off the field. He is exactly what you look for in a fan favorite and leader. His play last night shows why he wont be coming back any time soon.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 11, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) You've gotta love that the defense of the move is that Montero didn't suck in his last 25 innings (his first taste of success above AA at age 28), turning a blind eye to the fact that he spent 10 years of mediocre-at-best pitching prior to the last 5 weeks. Does it really matter. We are bringing in an arm to fill BMAC's spot. He might not even get a shot to pitch, unless we are up or down several runs. Its not like this guy is starting, he is just filling in a gap. I dont understand why people care so damn much.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 11, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) I'm not saying its going to cost us the season, but its still a stupid move. Tracey >>>>> Moreno. Not only does Tracey have lightyears better stuff, he also has a tremendous attitude and deserves the shot over Moreno (plus Tracey is more susceptible to suceed). Moreno = AAAAer and a juicer on top of that. Well since we dont need a starter because of BMAC, that could be one reason. And because Tracey could give Haeger a run for his money with walks, that could be another.

QUOTE(S720 @ May 11, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) How the hell you traded away Beltran, Damon and Dye and got almost NOTHING back is beyond my understanding AND imagination! Dye: July 25, 2001: Traded by the Kansas City Royals to the Colorado Rockies for Neifi Perez. Damon: January 8, 2001: Traded as part of a 3-team trade by the Kansas City Royals with Mark Ellis to the Oakland Athletics. The Oakland Athletics sent Ben Grieve to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Oakland Athletics sent Angel Berroa and A.J. Hinch to the Kansas City Royals. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays sent Cory Lidle to the Oakland Athletics. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays sent Roberto Hernandez to the Kansas City Royals. Beltran: June 24, 2004: Traded as part of a 3-team trade by the Kansas City Royals to the Houston Astros. The Oakland Athletics sent Mike Wood and Mark Teahen (minors) to the Kansas City Royals. The Houston Astros sent Octavio Dotel to the Oakland Athletics. The Houston Astros sent John Buck and cash to the Kansas City Royals.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 11, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) Yeah Wilder would be a good choice. But consider this from Dave Wilder's point of view. Why take the Kansas City job if it's offered to you, when you could possibly wait it out a little longer and get a better job like in say Baltimore, Seattle or Washington? Dont know, but he should be near the top of their list. You are talking about someone who has run minor league systems and player dev for awhile, and has a rep for being good with that aspect of baseball.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 11, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) They should have put the money they put into FA's like Sanders, Grudz etc. into the farm system and scouting. There's not going to be a quick fix for this organization. They don't have much good young pitching, which is a rebuilding club needs. J.P Howell's not a bad prospect, but they don't really have anyone else in the minors. GM wise, Steve Phillips would be a HORRIBLE choice, but with this franchise, nothing would suprise me. They need a young up and comer from another organization, kind of like Josh Byrnes. Umm, if they havent considered Dave Wilder, its a f***ing crime.
