  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) you could say the same thing about Adkins.... Wow, what a terrible comparison, I didnt know that Adkins had as much Major league experience as Lowell and has had a major drop off in his power numbers compared to his career.
  2. Hawkins-4.55 ERA .254 BAA 1.38 WHIP In SF 6.75 ERA .262 BAA Shingo 5.97 ERA 1.60 WHIP .270 BAA Their stats are pretty close, with Shingo performing better in June with a .133 BAA. It would just be a swap, with us losing a player and losing a piece of what has made us a first place team. I think its just making a move to make a move.
  3. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) While I agree with your reasoning, if Shingo's only purpose at the moment is to be a companion to Gooch, then I think we're wasting a roster spot. If Shingo played a significant role in our bullpen (by that I mean pitching more then once a week in mop-up duty) I'd say keep him around. Now, if your argument is that Ozzie should find more ways to use Shingo, then I'm for that. Although, that could be a tad scary. With Hawkins current numbers, he is due for nothing but occasional mop up duty. I am more for letting Jenks hurl the ball at the plate than watching Hawkins give up runs.
  4. ESPN insider: MARKET REPORT Better cancel Burnett's flight to O'Hare. The White Sox appeared to have the best match for Burnett until the Orioles made a furious charge over the weekend. And now, multiple sources said Monday morning, there is a possibility Burnett could be heading for Baltimore within 24 hours. One baseball man with knowledge of the discussions said, however, that while the teams are now "closer" than they've ever been to a deal, they're still "not in the final stages yet." The Marlins would get back reliever Jorge Julio, outfielder Larry Bigbie and Baltimore's most advanced pitching prospect, Hayden Penn. Baltimore would receive Burnett and agree to take Mike Lowell. The Orioles then would shift Melvin Mora back to the outfield to take Bigbie's place, so Lowell could play third. And Florida would move Miguel Cabrera back to third base, from whence he came, while platooning Bigbie with Jeff Conine in left. Because the Marlins wouldn't be getting a big-league-ready starting pitcher in the deal, they also could try to deal Penn to a third team for a more experienced arm. It's still unclear whether the Orioles would ask for a 48- or 72-hour window to attempt to sign Burnett to an extension. Burnett already has said publicly that he would be interested in signing with the Orioles because his wife is from Maryland, so the need for that window might be moot. The Red Sox (offering a package headed by Bronson Arroyo), Blue Jays (Gustavo Chacin and bullpen arms) and Yankees (Carl Pavano, Felix Rodriguez and prospects) also have stepped up in recent days. But if no one outbids Baltimore before the end of the day, it appears Burnett will be an Oriole.
  5. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Well, I hate to break it to ya, but you're not gonna get much better for Shingo. Which is exactly why I would rather keep shingo. He not only has been a part of this team and has contributed to our success, but he is a built in support system for Iguchi as well. I dont want to make a move, just to make a move.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) But Lowell has been more successful than Crede in the span that Crede has been up in the MLB... Ster-oids!!! Ster-oids!!!!
  7. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) I disagree with that. I expect adkins to be one of the long relivers soon. What makes you think that he would be brought up, when there are many other arms that have had more success in the minors??
  8. QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) In his last 7 appearances(6.1 IP) for the scrubs he gave up 1 run, a solo HR to Jermaine Dye. And how did he do before that? And how has he fared with SF when he switched to the mediocre NL west. He is garbage, pure and simple. Sometimes pitchers just get overused and old, and cant throw like they used to. He is one of those guys.
  9. f*** no, and I dont want to hear the s*** from cubs fans about how we bought their garbage, please please please dont do this KW
  10. Thats shows how much Bruce knows about the sox, Adkins wont be brought up, there are many better options.
  11. QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) mags was good, but power baseball doesnt work. we have the best team in the league now, so no hard feelings towards mags. he probably doesnt even care, since hes a multimillionaire, i know i wouldn't. his attack on ozzie got the response it deserved, and it's over now, ozzie said so himself. i dont even care about mags at all anymore. i wouldn't boo or cheer, but thats just me i guess. Thats your opinion if you think he doesnt care. But while he was calling for a trade 2 weeks ago, im sure he was looking at the standings and wondered what the hell am I doing in detroit??? Maggs is a crybaby, and left for more money, I will boo every player that does this for the rest of my life.
  12. Everyone on the radio keeps saying that they dont think Maggs will be booed because there is no reason for us to boo him. Im sorry, but when a player leaves for more money, I will boo him, sorry.
  13. One thing we need to all think about is whether these trades REALLY help our team. Swapping players just to swap is something a team that is trying to make a late run at the playoffs does. We are far in first place, and have no reason to try and alter our teams make-up. It has already been successful. Also we need to take into account the players changing leagues, their injury history, and their emotional make-up. The only trades we should be thinking about at this point is adding a crucial part of the team, not subtracting several, and then adding a few pieces just like it. This AJ trade sounds good because it could add a nice starter, but the price to pay might be too great, and the pieces we are losing have been crucial to our success up to this point. I would like to improve the team, but not to the price of giving up players that have proven to be successful and valuable pieces of our first place team this year.
  14. I would trade Honel for him, no more than that though.
  15. Shingo will be sent......to SF
  16. Its been reported today that the Red Sox will have AJ by the end of the week, I think its a dead issue.
  17. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 09:00 AM) jimbo this happen in my back yard earlier this year but it was a rabbit. Hawk swooped down in front of our eyes and snatched the rabbitt. It was tremendous. Fantastic actaully. I hate rabbitts, going to buy a pellet gun they eat my whole yard. quick and jimbo with some more pillow talk.....awwww
  18. I wouldnt trade Owens either, he is the lead off guy of the future. Young is very talents, but he looks like Corey patterson and I sense a flop coming for whatever reason. I want to stick with Anderson because he will help us down the stretch and next year. But if the move puts us over the top to get to the WS, I will pack all of their bags for them.
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 06:19 PM) I think Rogers is going to fall off the second half. I also don't think there's a chance in hell El Duque will make it through the second half without being DL'd again. KW is going to have to bring in reinforcements. Standing pat is not the right thing to do, and is not one of his characteristics. The goal is the world championship. Money is not an issue. Barring injuries, I think the White Sox 25 man roster is going to be looking a lot stronger on August 1st than it is right now, and its not too bad right now. We dont need El Duque to pitch every 5th day in the 2nd half. We need him for the playoffs, to start and win the decisive game. And to pitch a few innings here and there down the stretch. If we get another starter, then he got to be better than what we have in the playoffs. As of right now, you are looking at MB, Garland, Freddy and El Duque in the playoffs, I am VERY comfortable with that if we make it.
  20. Mark, because I have met him and hes a cool guy. BUt to sit there and pound a few, Bobby Jenks, cause he would throw those tall boys down!!!!
  21. What is wrong with everyone. I didnt know this was Kenny Rogers love time. The guy flat out blows down the stretch and in postseason play. With respect to Kyle. Kenny Rogers Postseason numbers 3 division series(4 games pitched, 2 started) with a record of 0-1, 7.7 innings pitched, and ERA of 7.04, 11 hits, 6 Earned Runs, 5 BB, 10 K 2 Championship series (4 games pitched, 2 starts) with a 0-2 record, 10.7 innings pitched, 7.59 ERA, 16 hits, 9 Earned Runs, 9 BB, 5 K World Series (9 games pitched, 5 games started) with a 0-3 record, 20.3 innings, 32 hits, 20 earned runs, 16 BB, 15 Ks El Duque is proven a better player in the situation. Kenny Rogers is missing ALOT of games and is a notoriously slow second half player. With respect to everyone, Kenny Rogers sucks at the end of the year and in the clutch. He is NOT the solution.
  22. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) All these teams won the world series with superstars on there team. I hope you do not think that the Whitesox have a better team than any of these three. we have 4 all stars, how many did the Angels, D-backs and Marlins have?
  23. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) I think you just did Rock hahaha, cheap shots
  24. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) Quick's modem is down, he is asking me to type this for him, we are on the phone. The Cards did not try to get Eckstein, they had to get a SS to replace Renteria. Bosox and Yankees have not traditionally been scrappy. By the way, he also says a giant "f*** you" to everybody on this site, he hates all of you. tell him his seats suck then.
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) I'm assuming your referring to those teams not having as much talent as the Yankees (who are always the most talented team in baseball???). However the Marlins and Dbacks had stud pitching carry them through and the Dbacks had one of the best duo's in baseball history just own the post-season. Then the Angels were and are a very talented team, especially with the way they play. There pitching staff was putrid but they were able to find a way to get it done. D-backs had a horribly overage lineup, except for the 1-2 punch, but were still very overmatched on paper. The Angels were extremely overmatch, not only in the lineup but in the bullpen, starting rotation. The Marlins were overmatched in every level of the playoffs, but were very together and motivated, which helped them prevail. If you remember correctly, one of the reason that the Yankees starting winning WS titles, was because the team was cohesive and scrappy, it wasnt until after that time period that they started really buying whole teams.
