  1. Schmidt, it has to be. We need another arm, this is ridiculous.
  2. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) I would have liked to land Graffy as a utility guy, but it was a longshot based on KC in the divison. O well, good for Tony, always a fan of of him. Hes not the same player he used to be, and Pablo is better, no thanks.
  3. Its not that hard to figure out people. El Duque will get A start in the playoffs, because he is the best playoff performer on the team. The other three slots go to Freddy MB and Garland. Thats it, game over. If El Duque Falters, then the Count gets a shot. Maybe even splitting innings, who knows. BUt as of right now, that is exactly what Ozzie is thinking.
  4. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) My wife and I went to last night game and their were about 8 guys sitting behind us all with their new Sox merchandise on.. Its great to see the Sox pick up some new fans but these guys totally sucked.. They were talking throughout the whole game some of the discussions they had were 1 They didnt know who Nellie Fox was 2 How Much better it is going to Wrigley Field over the Cell especially when the Cubs were in the playoffs. 3 Tadahito was a brutal ball player 4 Rowand is a bad OF Im afraid guys like this will take up all the playoff&world series tickets away from the die-hard fans. I will have my tickets since I been a season ticket holder since 1988.. I had the same experience. Generally we know all the people that sit around us in our seasons, but someone knew was in the ones behind us. The guy was trying to educate his girlfriend on baseball and knew nothing about it. Here are his "insights" 1. Oakland will fail to field a baseball team next year 2. Cleveland has been dominating the central for the last 5 years. 3. They build new comiskey on top of old comiskey
  5. Good, I hope they make a run for the WC and knock out either Oakland or someone from the East
  6. My bad, I read that you said 5 runs a game. But still, 5 run innings arent neccessary when you are on avg scoring that many runs a game. All the pitcher has to do then is give up less. Which he did. And its a W
  7. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) 5 run innings are rare for this team. They tend to score in bunches across many innings. ehem the sox avg 4.82 runs per game. It couldnt be THAT rare could it???
  8. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) I think them demanding Lowell be included in any trade is what is tying this up. I can image the phone dicussion between KW and the Marlins... ::End scene Hahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaha
  9. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) Though KW keeps trying to get Carl Everett back as well, it just the GM refuses to call KW back..He can't figure out why that is.
  10. Pretty good for the 5th starter in his first game back if you ask me. Even the coaches were surprised he threw so well. I would like to see the stats of the pitchers in their first outing back from a stint on the DL. I would say El Duque's is above average. Especially when I see Kevin Brown last night get killed, Odalis Perez getting shelled etc
  11. BTW, its been said they are trying to unload Arroyo.
  12. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) Agreed. Arroyo is too much. Maybe Mueller, if we're lucky. To whoever said you need a great pen to win the WS... did you see who won the WS last year? Yeah Keith Foulke, almost by himself.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) When healthy Gload is a great utility guy, and a solid PH/defensive replacement. As a starter, no, he would be a huge downgrade. The only downgrade would be in power numbers, every other statistic would go up, including defense.
  14. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation...g?event_id=1431 cant believe its so cubs dominated, oh wait, yeah I can.
  15. Jenks isnt ready to close yet. Baj is a better option for a closer than Jenks, and so is Polite and Damaso.
  16. Its the same reason why the sox were on Baseball tonight last and every team out east was on it first. And they had a special on trades out east. Its just how it is. You want real reporting on teams, watch sportsnite on Comcast.
  17. They only said that because Bruce Levine mentioned it yesterday. The only reason Bruce mentioned it was because he doesnt know any other arms in our system. If it was the cubs, he would be spot on, but he only knows ADkins cause he was up last year. I dont see why they would bring him up, when there are 3 or 4 better options.
  18. It looks like the Red Sox have backed off Wagner according to ESPN, and have picked up interest in Shingo. Could we maybe package Shingo, and Top level prospects for Arroyo and then turn him around into Wagner?
  19. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:13 AM) Cheaper solution might be Matt Wise from the Brewers. Wow, a very interesting and creative solution. He is a solid pitcher, and has a nice K/BB ratio. He is a righty, which we already have covered, but it could be a possibility.
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:13 AM) Thank you Mr. Obvious. Just kidding. I agree with you. Wagner would go a LONG way to increasing our chances of winning the whole enchilada. hahaha, I didnt even try to make the comment about how large he is. Did anyone see Jenks warming in the pen next to Polite. He looked twice his size!
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:57 AM) They're only 8.5 games back of the Padres who haven't been that great after their good start to the season, they get a whole lot of players back in Drew, Bradley etc., they're loaded with good prospects especially in their AA team, and DePodesta's never afraid to make a move to improve the team now. Im not sure you made a good argument there of why they would be buyers. They are almost 10 games back and still falling, and basically have a glorified minor league team playing for the big club. The WC is not going to come from their division, and they will be looking towards next year. And Depodesta is supposed to be looking to unload some payroll in the terms of one of their big three starting pitchers. I would rather have Odalis instead of the other two, but I dont know if any of them are good fits here.
  22. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 05:25 AM) Most teams are waiting to see where they are in the standings by the deadline. Teams like Oak, Phi, Hou, are still trying to contend for the wildcard. Realistically, these teams don't have a chance but aren't ready to sell off their players. One losing streak will turn a few teams into sellers that we aren't talking about now. That would be nice, Zito and Wagner would become more available.
  23. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) If you read this board long enough, everything wins playoff games: starting pitching, bullpen, slugging offense, manufacturing runs... Anyway, I think Wagner would have a similar price tag to Burnett. Wade's job is on the line and I doubt he'll give up a huge piece of his team if he can't get current MLB contributors. The opinions on the board do not always speak the truth. Fact is, a good bullpen is needed to win a playoff series. We have one. A great bullpen is needed to win the WS, we need one more piece. I am fine with our starting rotation right now, I think that AJ Burnett wont be that much better than El Duque in the playoffs, so I am fine with staying pat. BUt I do think we need one more arm in the pen. As of right now, we are hoping that Jenks will come around and be that dominant presence, but he is a large question mark. Bring in a top five closer, would really help out our cause. And no, considering that Wagner may not even play next year, his price tag wouldnt even be close.
  24. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) Does Wagner transform this team into a sure-fire World Series winner? No. Therefore, we don't need him. Umm, nothing really makes a team a sure-fire winner. But it does give us the best bullpen out there. And that my friend, is what wins playoff games.
