  1. QUOTE(fathom @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) That's another reason Aardsma is a bad match-up. He can't pitch inside against righty hitters. If he tried, his ball would tail right into them and hit them. Hunter might have hit a hanging curve, but everyone knows his best swings are against fastballs. Heck, even Farmer on the radio said that it wasn't a good match-up for the Sox. fathom, i agree with what you have said so far, but i fail to see how a fastball running in on teh hands of righties is a disadvantage....i completely agree with you though, that no doubt you want jenks in that situation, i just think you can throw a running fastball into righties without hitting them
  2. QUOTE(Felix @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) I can't lie. Today was the day that my hopes for this season took a huge hit. I don't know why, but this game just really, really hurt. its so hard to be optimistic right now, but honestly i feel like we are playing our worst baseball right now, are still .500 (AMAZINGLY ONLY 3 BACK IN LOSSES IN THE W.C.) and have the easiest stretch of hte year in terms of competition coming up......thank you interleague play, unfortunately, all the teams ahead of us in the standings get to play the s***ty NL as well...but nontheless...a little streak like 5 of 7 puts us in decent shape...i just hope we can do that
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) This was a bad loss. im trying to think of a loss that was uglier that i can remember....politte walking the winning run was pretty horrible against i think the tigers in the throwbacks unis....either way...8 walks, errors, being out hustled on the bases, getting shut down by a guy we traded for damaso marte, being robbed of a home run by kubel in the top of hte 9th....just a bad bad game in general... the white sox are in a unique place right now, contending isnt out of the question, neither is selling off buehrle iguchi and dye...thankfully we still have 2 months to decide which to do...the quesiton that is interesting to me is can we still compete in 08 if we trade dye and buerhle....if we do we have alot of money to go and spend on someone (ie arod) or multiple parts (ie hunter, bullpen, 2b)....what is so dangerous is that if we decide to keep those guys we have a billion holes next year...buerhle, dye iguchi crede could all be gone, which further exposes the hole that is SS and uribe...not to mention thome another year older...this team could get in trouble pretty quickly, quite frankly im glad kenny noticed before this year and got danks gio and masset and possible floyd to contribute, cuz those would be even more holes to fill
  4. i defend ozzie and personally think all the people on this site that blast him and say he needs to be fired are ridiculous, but going to aardsma instead of jenks in that situation is just a horrid managerial decision
  5. QUOTE(juddling @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) I'm at work so i have to ask....was any of Aardsma's pitches even close to being a strike??? If you are 3-0 to Hunter and you know he's going to take at least 1 pitch and you STILL can't get a strike.....then it's time to head to the minors they were all low and away....the last one was the farthest from being a strike of the whole sequence
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) If KW had the balls he claims he has he would send Aardsma and MacDougal to Charlotte right now. macdougal doesn't have options......so it would be moronic to just let him go....it doesn't take balls to send him down, it takes stupidity
  7. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) are bullpen is the worst in baseball. can't complain one bit about the pen today...they did their job, except aardsma i guess, but our D was horrid not only in that inning but basically all game....its just so disheartening to see us walking guys, while the twins are hitting hte ball on the ground, hustling to break up double plays
  8. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 29, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) And yet they ignore the next Brandon Webb. Pity. carmona is already in the bigs
  9. gio gonzalez jack egbert bret prinz timo perez brian anderson really... santana cabrera king felix pujols arod
  10. QUOTE(chisoxt @ May 27, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) i had tickets to the rainout game Saturday night. It is now shceduled as a day game on Monday the 27th. Like 90% of the ppopulation, I work Mondays, and all of the otherd ays of the week. I always thought that tickest from rainouts can be redeemed for any games, no? actually according to lee elia "Eighty-five percent of the f*ckin' world is working. The other fifteen percent come out here"
  11. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 28, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) Go Hogs! it must sting making it to all 3 SEC title games and losing them all this year
  12. elijah dukes has been one of the mlbs biggest tools for a while now
  13. hawk mentioned morissey wrote a great column during the broadcast and he urged everyone to read it
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ May 19, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) I know this doesn't really matter, but I heard the Cubs are between Wieters and Vitters. yeah probably whichever one is there at 3
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 19, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) That Montgomery lineup has two positional prospects better than any in our organization in Bringac (sp?) and Longoria. Kudos to Tampa Bay for doing a great job with all of the top ten picks they've been handed over the years -- Young, Upton, Baldelli, Longoria and Niemann. Am I missing any? dukes and hamilton seem to finally be paying off also, even though they have had their fair share of struggles
  16. here is why I think the sox and cubs are the biggest rivals..... if detroit sucks next year, nobody gets pumped up about a sox vs. tigers series the cubs can be horrible, and every year the crosstown series is a huge deal just because the sox and _____ (fill in the blank AL Central team) are battling it out for 1st in the AL central doesn't necessarily make them big time rivals. Put the cubs in the AL central and its not even close. The only one i could see is cleveland because at least that has some history to it. That is at least my definition of a rivalry....wanting to beat the other team, because beating the other team brings joy to your day, and not necessarily soley for benefit of the standings

    Ozzie

i should clarify....north did have AJ on the show and AJ said he wanted to play, but was pretty cordial about saying that ozzie makes out the lineup....to be honest i didnt think north said anything that really deserved ozzie calling in and throwing a fit, but it was funny nonetheless

    Ozzie

Anyone just hear ozzie call in to the mike North Show? They just got into a screaming match for about a minute over ozzies decision to play Toby hall...ozzie swore like 3 times and mike north asked him to keep it clean, and they screamed at each other for a good minute. I dont know another manager that would do it. Im sure everyone is gonna say hes classless, but i found it funny especially cuz it was on North part of me almost thinks the whole thing was staged, but i doubt it
  19. QUOTE(tigerfan @ May 17, 2007 -> 02:44 PM) Cubs blow a 5-1 lead going into the 9th against the Mets and lose 6-5. Sad, just really really sad. more funny than sad
  20. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 17, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) Ozzie says Jose on Sunday. f*** Jose on short rest in that atmosphere screams nightmare to me but whatever. jose is the best candidate.....he used to pitch on short rest in cuba all the time....i remember one story where he pitched 200+ pitches one game, had a day off, and then Castro demanded that he pitch the next game and he went out and got another W....granted i believe that was like 8 years ago
  21. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 10, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) Not sure how Ryan isn't higher and in no way does Roger Clemens deserve to be ahead of him in anything related to pitching. except for....well, everything
  22. my head says yankees, heart says cubs
  23. Here is the simplest answer.... The cubs have overperformed and are 2 games under .500 while playing the 28th most difficult schedule in the league, with no major injuries to this point (well unless you count prior and wood, but at this point they dont count anymore since that team was built without them) The sox have underperformed and are 2 games over .500 while playing the 5th most difficult schedule in the league without thome and podsednik QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 15, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) That whole DH thing tends to skew offensive production. It's just easier to face 8 hitters in the NL than it is to face 9 in the AL. Ask Ted Lilly about that one. definately, it basically shortens the game by an entire inning In looking at the cubs #s, and knowing the ease of the schedule they have played, I am baffled that they are not near the top of the NL central....three starters with a sub 2.55 ERA, Dlee hitting .390, soriano over .300, Aram with 8 HR....the rest of the offense hasnt been spectacular, but with the kind of starting pitching effort they have had, the O has been more than adequate
  24. QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 14, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) Actually more like a #3 (1 + 2). On another note, BP's 5 highest VORP ratings for Sox positional players (hilarious and sad at the same time): Thome - 13.9 Uribe - 4.5 Pierzynski - 3.5 Terrero - 1.8 Podsednik - 1.8 Crede is 11th from the bottom of the entire MLB listing with a VORP of -6.6 it is not only impressive but almost unbelievable that this team is 2 over .500 with the way we have hit this year, and have done that against the 5th toughest schedule in the league.....if we continue to pitch and if we can come around to hit even like we did in 05, we will be on the list of the two best teams in baseball
  25. sweeneys approach, discipline and polish at the plate look to be 10 times better than Anderson. he looks like a baseball player whereas anderson looks like a guy who is athletic that is playing baseball....id love to see him stay with the club and for us to either send terrero back down
