QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 12:01 AM) It took forever, and it wasn't pretty, but that's 4 straight series wins now! Congrats to Javy for win #100. they really battled against IMO the best team in the majors.......abreu is absolutely the toughest out ive seen all year, even tho brandon gave up the homer...it was a pretty good job by the pen tonight....against a less patient team i think javy has a little easier of a night, but ill take it....contreras is gonna need to eat some innings tomorrow

Jeter has made the overrated list so often and has been talked about bein overrated so much that he, in my mind is no longer overrated, and in fact may be underrated.....if i had to say overrated, jason varitek, aj burnett......underrated is easy....hafner, and jeff francis and other colorado rockies ( holliday, hawpe)....oh and joe nathan still doesnt get the pub that rivera, lidge, papelbon and ryan get.....and over the last 3 years he may have been the best closer in teh game

you know how there are some things that may be true but you just dont say publicly if you are a ball player....there were about 4 things freddy said in there that may be true but you just never admit

QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) I don't know what to make of this loss, great effort late, but the Garland was absolutely disgusting. Feel free to discuss. i didnt think garland was terrible...certainly nothing im going to worry too much about....he got beat tonight by a good hitting team on the long ball.....obviously not a good start, but to me it wasnt disgusting...those games have been left to freddy and mark over the last month and a half

QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) wasn't he the mvp last year. the starter. the igniter. the wheels. the fact is that he was not the MVP last year....not even close....we won last year because we had hands down the best pitching in the league...

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:31 PM) why would you rather see a no hitter for God sake. Are you really a fan? Great game; bad loss. im always astounded at the people who say they would rather be no hit....the only logical explanation i can come up with is that those people are Baseball fans and not sox fans

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) A good poster should only talk about being a good Sox fan if they stayed up for all of Game 3 of the WS. thats too easy...plenty of non good sox fans stayed up for that one....now if you watched every pitch of the marathon boston game just before the break thats better...tho i think the best one was if you stayed up in 03 to watch the game i believe vs. KC after a long rain delay, the game didnt even start til like 10 and hten colon gave up 8 runs....sox came back to nearly win

QUOTE(Balance @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) Ok, someone has to say it- Anyone else think the Yankees' rotation sounds like something out of a porn flick? We have faced their Wang and triumphed. We must now defeat their Johnson! this joke was funny back when the yankees called wang up....ya know...like a year and a half ago

QUOTE(Jake @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 05:51 AM) CHW: Garland(12-3, 4.99 ERA) NYY: Johnson(11-9, 5.11 ERA) It's time for clinch the series win! Jon it's time to eat some innings we have a tired pen. Sox it to em! sounds like giambi will sit this one out..... http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...1p-372302c.html

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 06:51 AM) Possibly some bad blood b/w Torres and the Sox perhaps (if you remember the negotiations for Jose's last deal)? jose signed....i think that means that there is not bad blood

QUOTE(kane0730 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 05:07 PM) Pods, LF; Iguchi, 2B; Thome, DH; PK, 1B; Dye, RF; AJ, C; Crede, 3B; Mackowiak, CF; Cintron, SS. i like the stacked lefties vs. the sinker baller

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) I love the mixture of speed, power, and on base ability of the Yankees with Abreu and Cano in their lineup now. I think our offense has been great basically all season, but this Yankees lineup impresses me more than any other team's lineup. the lineup could have sheff and matsui back by the playoffs too...thats just scary...damon, jeter, arod, giambi, sheff, abreu, matsui, posada, cano....damn....not to mention mussina wright and wang have all been very good...id hate to face randy johnson as the possible #3 or 4 in a playoff rotation...they are my WS pick

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 02:06 AM) I believe we're 0-5 in the finale of a 3-game series after taking the first two. We need to sweep these guys. weve swept the tigers royals twins angels A's reds and cardinals this year

ive been gone overseas the last week, so i dont know if this was talked about, but what little info i could get on the team i saw a blurb in the international USA today that said cooper and vazquez had worked out a flaw in his mechanics in a bullpen session...clearly he got something worked out
-
QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 08:15 AM) That is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard of. 3 studs for Lee. Can lee pitch? liotta is far from a stud, but i agree it is dumb

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) In other words...start the clock, Kenny's going to do something. Just remember, negotiations with Jon Garland and Jose Contreras have broken off. yea i agree....this doesnt mean anything, he could just be sayin it so that the players dont feel the distraction of the deadline, but really hes workin somethin out

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) Does anyone still think this is a playoff team? I sure don't. They don't look like it, they don't play like it, and I'm not sure they have sufficient hunger for it. I know they won't always play this badly, but I don't see this team putting together the kind of runs it would take to overcome a 7.5 game deficit or hold off the Yankees and Twins for the wildcard. yes....im gonna be viewed as an optimist, but i view myself as a realist....but weve played 5 straight series against very good AL teams, have pitched like crap and not gotten timely hitting, and still had a chance to win the bosox, tigers, texas, and this twins series......will we play better? certainly....the difference between us going .500 over that stretch (which most of us would have been ok with) and what we have done, is the fact that your ace has lost 3 straight 1 run games, and buerhle has hit a mini slump....those types of things wont continue to happen, and tend to balance over a full year

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) 0-2 forkball to Bartlett. there was also a bunt that tyner beat out that the replay looked extremely close, but he was out....it was a tough call to make, as close to bang bang as you get, but the sox also got jobbed in the 7th on a blown call at third, iguchi was thrown out by cuddyer but hte tag never got him
-
QUOTE(kane0730 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) This morning KW said something to the effect of looking at 3 way trade possibilites. Anyone think this could work?: Sox Get: Soriano Heilman Mets Get: Garcia/Javy Nats Get: Prospects from Mets & Sox absolutely.....i think something like that is extremely possible....
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) We have? Brandon McCarthy is not really developed yet. We can't really say for sure what we have with him. We have only really developed Garland, Buehrle, Cotts, and maybe Jenks if you consider us developing him or not I don't know. We have nothing in developing pitching in the majors on other teams. I guess Kip Wells and Josh Fogg are it. We are not a very good system for developing our own pitchers. We usually have more busts than quality ptichers. Who are our big OBP guys that will be leading off? I don't get it. im pretty sure all 4 of those names were crucial in winning us a world series and also pretty sure that 3 of them have been allstars.....id say thats a good job at developing some pitchers
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) Look what Weaver has done for the Angels, too. The only problem is it's too late in the season to just throw him into the rotation. It would take a good month I hear for him to get stretched out enough to start. i like mccarthy and i agree he should be in the rotation, but hes faarr from liriano and weaver
-
QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:04 AM) Just a feeling....If we won't trade McCarthy, our best major league prospect, and won't consider Broadway or Fields, possibly our best two minor league prospects, I just don't see a deal as working out. Hasn't been updated, I'm guessing, but I'm sure it will be soon. i think a deal can be worked out...... kenny could try to get one more bullpen arm + prospect for garcia....then hell ship pods + the new prospect + a sox prospect (anyone other than fields and broadway) for soriano
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 07:43 AM) Ah yes even better. Shows how important shredding that salary could be actually. Paying $10M for a SP with decreased velocity ain't a good thing. it is my belief that if the soriano deal goes down, the sox dont have the prospects to do it without including mccarthy....i think they will trade freddy, texas is a logical destination, for a package starting with someone like diamond or danks, and then move that prospect for alfonso with brandon moving to the rotation........the sox are gonna move a pitcher at the end of the year, why not do it now if you can move that pitcher for soriano
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) Cotts is not exactly Mariano Rivera, either. Why oh why can't Vazzy continue his excellence past five innings? im far from an expert but if i had to guess....its the same reason alot of guys are just better relievers...javy has a nice fastball and a ncie change.....two good pitches, but his 3rd and 4th pitch, slider and curve, just arnet what they were (at least not like that time he dominated us when he was with NYY)..hitters adjust to his fastball that third time through and can just look for it....just watch cuddyer and tyner...they cheated in on the fastball in the middle innings and had great results
