  2. QUOTE(SoxnGiants @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 05:44 PM) Pods is a solid hitter in the leadoff spot - not too much available that would be a big upgrade there. Defensively, however, he's below average and I think he should be replaced next year. I'd doubt that someone will be brought in this year but a guy who really interests me a lot is David DeJesus. He's young, plays well defensively and has an OPS of .881 (.804 last year). He could also spell Anderson against tough righties. I'm not sure what his availability is but he plays for KC so I figure there's got to be a chance. i agree, thats a name i tossed out there in previous threads as well...the problem is that he is relatively young, cheap, and good...and thats the combo KC is looking to keep, not to get rid of, but a package of good prospects would get it done....another name i like alot is eric byrnes
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) Manny Ramirez Kicks the s*** out of Travis Hafner. Papelbon is 26/29 in save oppertunities Ryan is 24/25 with his one blown save comming against the White Sox. yeah, for some reason espn says papelbon has only blown 2, but youre right its 3
  4. didnt bother to read this thread because i know soxnation has a ridiculous bias in favor of podesdnik...but he's been bad defensively, and is easily the most overrated player on this offense....Id have absolutely no problem if we let him go for next year
  5. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) If the season ended today, He'd win one of the two, if not both. He's been the best reliever in baseball, period. Here is what i have a problem with....Everyone seems to want to say papelbon for cy young, and why? ESPN hyped up papelbon so much that the popular belief is that hes been the best reliever in the league, when the fact of the matter is that BJ Ryan has been every bit as good...Ryan has 1 more ER, but more Ks, and 1 fewer blown save, lower WHIP. If you ask me Ryan has the better #s....but why does everyone think papelbon has had the best year....espns bosox bias
  6. Lets try to shy away from the ideas like milledge which are less than speculation....i dont want this to turn into another one of those types of threads.....sticking to what we know at least has a possibility to be true....KW would potentially have another deal for a CF if this went down....Rowand was pure speculation, but here's another name that I wouldn't mind seeing...Eric Byrnes...he's a perfect KW type grinder, will be cheap in a trade probably, and Arizona will certainly look to get rid of him with Chris young knocking on the door..the Arizona Republic said he will be trade bait as well...solid numbers....292 .352 OBP .522 SLG 12 HR 23 2b and 10/11 in SBs
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Schmidt would be unhittable after Coop worked his magic with him, considering he's been pretty good without him. Coop could also work with Rowand. The White Sox would never lose. Say these reports are true. Wouldn't it be ironic that the guy who couldn't hit in 2003 which made KW go out and grab a DH to play CF, would be the guy KW traded for because his current CF isn't hitting? I'll say it again, as bad as Anderson has been offensively, his OBP is only .037 lower than the great Aaron Rowand's. I would just let Anderson play, or get someone better than Rowand. this is soxtalk...nobody is better than rowand
  8. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:07 AM) Garland's ERA and WHIP splits by month: April - 7.11 ERA, 1.52 WHIP May - 5.40 ERA, 1.55 WHIP June - 4.50 ERA, 1.29 WHIP July - 2.35 ERA, 1.17 WHIP now check THIS out: taking out Garland's first two abysmal starts, his stats: 98.2 IP 48 ER 105 H 22 BB 7-2, 4.38 ERA, 1.29 WHIP since mid April - right in line with his career numbers.... yeah hes definitely been better than people have given him credit for....and if you ask me, not enough blame has been given to garcia
  9. QUOTE(G&T @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:01 AM) The only way this makes sense is in a three-way deal that gets the Sox both Schmidt and a center-fielder because the Sox can't give up their two best trade pieces in one trade then turn around and have to fill another hole. Plus, who helps the bullpen when BMAC is gone? Did Vasquez look so impressive out there that he could move? There would have to be more to this than just Schmidt. my guess would be that a guy like vazquez or garcia could be moved for a CF and a bullpen arm....rowand and gordon? im sure it would take more than just one starter to get both, but maybe not if philly is desperate to move flash's contract
  10. red sox fans are the worst sports fans in the country in any sport....they think they knwo everything, and they think the entire world revolves around the bosox....i cant stand em
  11. i wish hawk called pauly in game 2 of the series
  12. soxtalk didnt work at my home computer for a while for some reason as well, just wouldnt load.....it was like that for about 6 months, and one day, in the words of hawk....poof...it worked
  13. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) Is she old enough for me to be thinking what I am thinking?? ;-) id teach her the meaning of the word respect
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 02:08 AM) haha talk to rob neyer, he says charlie haeger has the best chance of any pitching prospect to win 200 games in his career
  15. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) I looked up his stats and holy cow. .329 with 22 HRs. 22 HRs?! As a freshman?!! He'd have to have a meltdown of Matt LaPorta proportions to fall out of the first round 2 years from now. yeah, one of the chats on espn said he woulda gone first overall this year if he were eligible..... .456 obp with 57 walks in 260 ABs is damn good too
  16. .280 with 15 + HRs in half a year? yeah ill take that please Lets say AJ gets 260 ABs in the second half (about the same as in first half) a .280 average gives him 73 hits in 260 ABs, .320 gives him 83 hits in 260 ABs..... So thats about 10 fewer hits, but 10 more HRs. So essentially its trading 10 nights where AJ goes 2-4 with no homers for 10 where he goes 1-4 with a HR. Those extra ten HR are a guaranteed 10 runs minimum, where those extra 10 singles aren't
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) who is the dude in your avatar? pedro alvarez
  18. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 12:32 AM) The Hoover Met I am sure plays a role in it. Reading's park is only 320 down the lines and 370 to the power allys. While the Met is 340 and 385 to the power allys. Oppostion is only batting .228 against Gio so I think the walks and park is most likely the difference. Still the Sox's got a big time power hitter who is having a great season so it was a great trade. the dude in my avatar hit two balls that seriously musta cleared all the trees down the left field line at the hoover met during the SEC tourny....and you are right, that stadium his huge
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 12:59 AM) Are you comparing David DeJesus to Andruw Jones? I don't think we need to worry about finding "cheaper alternatives" now because attendance isn't going down anytime soon. Jerry has always based the payroll on attendance, and with our output on the field and pitching signed for years to come, our payroll will only increase. comparing them? haha not even close....cheaper in terms of talent that we give up
  20. QUOTE(Wanne @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) I can't say I blame these other fans about being pissed...but...it happens every year. Torre was always the culprit for quite a while. The only problem I have is Buehrle. He is VERY non-deserving of being an All-Star this year...especially after today. Does Mark have a clause in his contract that states he gets a bonus for being on the All-Star team btw? I still think AJ should have been named though. the all star teams were made up before todays outing, i cant believe ESPN failed to mention this when they went nuts about schilling not making it and buehrle making it....before todays game, when the lineups were set, buerhle had just 1 fewer win, but had a lower ERA, add in to the fact that his team has a better record, and his manager is managing the all star team, i really dont understand why espn complained about schilling not making it other than the fact that hes schilling and plays for boston. Liriano, is another story.
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 08:32 PM) Doesn't Jones have a chronic shoulder condition or something like that? sounds like konerkos chronic hip injury
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) Fixed. heh
  23. doubt it would happen, since KC just signed this guy to a 5 year deal, but here would be the cheaper alternative that i personally wouldn't mind seeing..... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7232
  24. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) Okay, I think we're going overboard a little here. its not hard at all to see politte's fastball is down from 94-95 to 89-90 and that his slider is flattening out.....his fastball doesnt have much movement and when its only 90, its gonna get hit hard, even if its on the corners (ie pagan HR #1). judging by the stuff he has shown, id say hes injured, and if hes not injured, well, he simply not gonna be effective...get on the phones kenny
