  1. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) Wow..my first ever game thread. You know we are bottoming out when someone starts the game thread 30 minutes before game time! its a must win, if we win today, we will be .5 game back (essentially even) and with a faily light schedule the rest of the way, and possibly minny without radke, people around here will take a step back from the ledge
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) What's the word on Radke? id guess not good.....but thats just a guess...he had nothing in that last game, and hes already said that he's retiring next year
  3. QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) Pitching, defense, fundamentals, productive outs, spot on managing... liriano and radke (who was like 8-1 in his previous 9 before garland beat him) had something to do with that, without those two guys the twins could be in trouble
  4. come out and win tomorrow, and we are .5 back heading to KC and TB, while the twins have KC and NYY....hopefully without radke and liriano, we can hang in this thing, but a win tomorrow is absolutely and utterly crucial
  5. put blame where it is deserved......contreras lost this one for us, not iguchi.....when you are "the ace" you cant go only 2.something innings against santana
  6. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) I know others will suggest they didn't hold out much hope for victory, but nevertheless, I'll never shrug my shoulders when our ballclub faces Santana. Continue believing every matchup is an automatic defeat and results such as tonights will repeat themself. In all honestly, their offensive approach wasn't too bad. Strikeouts were limited and consistent contact was made. Even Brian Anderson put together quality AB's. It's pathetic, IMO, that Minnesota continues to gain ground even WITHOUT Liriano. If he were healthy and starting Minnesota would have already eclipsed us for the Wild Card. exactly....today wasnt teh bad one, this series was lost when freddy garcia couldn't beat boof bonser.....thank god for garland beating radke....he has been our savior so far this year
  7. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) My take on today's game: A loss won't hurt the Sox. But a win could be HUGE. The Twins absolutely need this game, with their ace going vs. the Sox #5 SP. Yet the sox could lose and still be in decent shape heading into Detroit. exactly, much more for minny to lose heading into todays game than the sox.....sox lose, its not a huge deal, twins lose, it is a huge deal, sox win, and its huge for the sox, twins win and its onethey should win anyways
  8. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 08:55 AM) I think, in a way, Garland may well be this years Jose Contreras. During the 2nd half last year, the entire team was in a funk and many were about to throw in the towel. Jose quietly stepped up and carried the team and I didn't even appreciate it since the season almost appeared lost. Well, until a few weeks ago, this season about seemed lost as well, and only one starter was carrying us. That starter was, and is, JG. If we win it all again, JG (well, and JD) will be seen as the horse who made it possible. SFF last year i told myself, thank god for jose contreras, because i didnt know where we would be without him in the second half.....i said the exact same thing last night about jon garland
  9. QUOTE(Wedge @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 07:00 AM) I'm afraid this game just isn't going to go well... the beauty of todays game is that, the sox dont have much to lose....nobody expects them to win today, and if they do lose, they keep the WC lead....if you ask me, much more pressure is on minnesota, because they can't afford to fall 3 back and take the mental bump of having their ace lose....if the sox lose, the team is fine and comes out playing tomorrow, a win and it might do alot for the psyche of this team, and really put them on a run (especially if texas beats Det too)
  10. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) That was exactly my point. Koch manned up, every time. I miss that attitude. he even took it so hard himself he said he wanted to kill himself after the ALDS when he was with the As
  11. id be all for trying to get involved i the vernon wells sweepstakes
  12. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Neal made a good pitch and Morneau was barely able to get it out of the infield. Tough luck, Andersons play didn't help us either. By the way, Cotts is getting too much blame for the loss. What happened to our offense again making "Boof" look like Santana? This was a must win game for the sox and now we have two sox killers in a row. I will be happy if we don't get swept. the biggest issue here isnt anything ozzie did ...the biggest thing is that garcia has completely lost the ability to shut any offense down, period....it seems to me that he has completely lost the ability to shut a team down and give up less than 2 runs through 7 innings....at least not an AL team in addition, hawk used to rave about how freddy was a winner and pitched just well enough to win....well tonight, and in most of his recent starts, he has pitched just well enough to lose.....i really wish they had traded him at the deadline, because they wont be able to move him for much this offseason
  13. dang, hes had incredible numbers with very good peripherals to back them up....interesting prospect...certainly one to keep an eye on, he is 22 years old, so he probably shoulda been to AA by now anyways, but ill be watchin him
  14. I heard it was supposed to be bernero too, I remember him from a few years ago with the tigers, but whitesox.com says its odalis perez tonight.....is it for sure bernero?
  15. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 09:39 AM) If aces are supposed to have 4.6+ ERA. haha lets not forget one of them started the all star game and the other was on the team
  16. it would be huge for mark to step up and really get back on track and have 7-8 solid innings....ill take the QS tho with 3 runs in 6
  17. compared to the league norm, uribe is more valuable....ie defensive VORP.....however, since on the whitesox, the replacement players are mack and cintron, anderson D is more valuable because you dont lose as much going from uribe to cintron as you do from anderson to mack..... that is......(Anderson - Mack) > (Uribe - Cintron), but when they are both playing, uribe is more valuable than anderson, and i dont really even think its that close
  18. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) wow, I agree with you. Those numbers just mean it's all bound to change. yeah, what scares me is the majority of those runs charged to verlander were in like his 4th start or something when we got him for 7 in 2+ innings IIRC .....then he lost in this very same matchup to contreras 4-3.....good game by both pitchers....we need this win and we need jose to eat some innings because that pen has been worked, and were still not off for a while
  19. i realize he good defensively and handles the pitchers, but i want no part of a guy with a .312 OBP and a .375 SLG in the bandbox at charlotte on the big league team...
  20. i went back and watched it on mlbtvs archives....he balked
  21. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) No, What I meant was I am tired of people saying "WIN THE WILD CARD CAUSE THE WILD CARD ALWAYS WINS THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!111" That's what is annoying, not actually winning the Wild Card. im pretty sure nobody said that....his point was that the only difference between wild card or division is yankees or As in the first round
  22. the yankees are the best team in the league if you ask me
  23. QUOTE($I Need Money$ @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 12:05 AM) f*** YEAH JAVY WAY TO MAN THE f*** UP AGAINST THOSE f***ING ASSHOLES f*** YOU AROD f*** YOU GIAMBI GET THE f*** OUTTA CHICAGO YOU PUSSY b****ES WOOOOOOOOOOOO f*** YEAH GO WHITE SOX b****ES YEAH f*** YEAH!!!! nuke, is that you?
  24. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) Big hats to Javy for grinding through 5. Did we see him turn a corner after the last two games? He had about 5 chances to crack and he strapped it down and didn't. He made me sweat but he pulled it out. Hats to Bobby tonight too. yeah, gotta give props to guillen/coop tonight.....we are quick to dish it out on em, so we gotta give them their props when they do it right...i think they made all the right moves tonight
