  1. Then you shouldn't use the word "best" because Simpsons jumped the shark years ago. Family Guy is absolutely nothing special. You're impressed by curse words and inane caricatures? I am not. After the hilarious first season both Peter and the Baby come off as so damn predictable and unfunny, Marge friggin' Simpsons can give them run for their money....And she sucks!
  2. Yes, the correct WRONG answer is Family Guy. The correct RIGHT answer is and always will be The Simpsons. First 7-8 seasons cannot be touched. Family Guy, while hilarious at times, is ultimately just a 2nd rate pretender. Ditto South Park.
  3. Maggs is not a HOF'er. Standards will be raised for Juice Era (last 10 years) sluggers. Not enough. M's must also include the key from that room where they keep the money.
  4. :puke I could forgive him for being an unimaginative, woefully unskilled writer. I could forgive him for being an amoral megalomaniac-f*** of a human being. But his personal crusade against everything White Sox/SouthSide.....his lies and evil manipulations and character genocide (all time-tested and supported by evidence) will not be tolerated. God Bless Hawk Harrelson. YMMV.
  5. Arrestmeonridiculouscharges once, shame on you. Arrestmeonridiculouscharges twice, shame on me. Right?
  6. Understatement of the year. That he still fancies himself a distinguished man of Letters is both hilarious and telling. Basic litmus test: does a professional reference HR totals when assessing a hitters's worth? Eeeaa!
  7. 1. Coop is an average pitching coach. His greatness is a myth. 2. It's either the case of spine-less, vision-free Jerry Manuel OR crazy-manipulative Kenny. Either way, hardly anything to be surprised over. Typical White Sox, 2nd-rate organization fodder.
  8. Article? Typical Toad: plagerizing, self-conscious, unethical, hateful and worthless in every way. Yawn-inducin, too. Maggs? Unless next year's payroll is 70+ Mill and/or Magglio puts up Sosa numbers in his prime (1998-2001) in the upcoming season......SEE YA!!! 5/70 my ass.
  9. 1. Konerko for Perez is never gonna happen, unless some major prospects are involved. See: "ESPN 1000" thread. 2. Keep Inge and keep Pena. I'd rather bank on one of Borchard/Rauch coming through or one of Ginter/Show being a solid reliever. Who knows, if the cutter sticks, Show may just become a hit as a #5 starter. 3. Maddux, sadly, is not coming. We are 3-5 Mill over budget as it is. 4. You're right about the foot-shooting, though.
  10. One of the most under-rated and chilling perfrormances of all time. Nobody hardly mentions it. First thing that comes to mind:
  11. People who think Maddux isn't worth 6-7 Mill a year are on crack. His name in Chicago and ability to teach Cotts/Rauch/Wright/Burhle/Judy about the fine art of change-up and deception alone make him worth an extra mill or two. Keeping him away from the Cubs (if they make the World Series Sox are dead in this town) is worth another Mill or two. He's never been about velocity and is in excellent physical shape. Even at 38, I don't think he is done. Not in prime perhaps, but still good enough that he might just make an All-Star game. He is one year removed from a 2.50 ERA season, and outside of a few rough starts early, he was a 3.50 ERA guy in 2003, sometthing which Ponson can only dream of and Super Bartolo has only done once. Sox need to win and Maddux will be a solid #2. He was sharp in his start against the red-hot Cubs, and only stupid Bobby Fick slipping while fielding a routine bunt led to the second ER. 1 deserved ER in 6+ innings on the road is not that bad. But Sox are stuck with Konerko, Koch and are overpaying Valentin (thanks Kenny, next time his suppurters might wanna STFU), so we simply have no room for GM. None.
  12. I am agnostic. I have no stake in this. Mel Gibson is an ass. I am familiar with the historical, scholarly, pop culture-y as well as the various biblical and religious representations of THE events in question. In great detail might I add. I will have to see the movie and digest it before I make my verdict. The numerous scrips available online did not sit well with me AT ALL. But I'll give it once more chance. I am all about giving chances. Last Temptation of Christ was a solid flick. "Normal" people? Over and out.

  18. Go with friends....take breaks.....fool around.....nap... make fun of Mel Gibson.....it can be done.
  19. I do not agree with using part-time scrubs. Sorry. 800 OPS is my every-day player benchmark and ESPN tends to agree. When I see Jim Thome, Frank, Sexson, Palmeiro, Edgar, Sweeney, Giambi, Bagwell, etc toying with 950-1000+ OPS year in and out, it puts things in perspective. So even by far the strongest part of Paulie's game, his OPS, is not nearly as impressive in the proper context. Then again, who is to say he even breaks the 800 this year? He looked so lost and angry last year, he may burn himself out tryng to compensate this year again and overswinging = hitter's death. To prove to you how overrated a player Mr. All-Star is, how overpaid he is and how much unnecessary risk comes with his territory. Why does it matter? Because Sox are over budget and have a TON of holes to fill. Konerko's presence HURTS the team. Badly. Dodgers know it. Not that they give a s*** about Konerko anyway. Listen to all the rumors you want, Konerko for Perez is not gonna happen. IMO. Last time I counted, they had 85 Mill committed to current contracts WITH Perez. Their payroll has been increasing annually and they are making a profit still. The new ownership wants to impress. I wouldn't be suprised if they top a 120 Mill limit, but 115 Mill is virtually guaranteed. Furthermore, if they are smart (and lucky), they might just get rid of an albatoss contract or two. No, I won't. Both teams had no offense. One of them got offense in a hurry. LA has at least as much spending room as O's did prior to FA signings. Plus the STUD prospects, worst comes the worst. Do you have any link to Dodgers not wanting to ever give up either Jackson, Miller, under any circumstances? I mean, I could see how they would be reluctant when it comes to overpaid Magglio, ut there are 28 other teams in MLB.... Again......they'll get Randal "Clutch" Simon to hit against righties. They'll get some other dirt cheap RH to hit against lefties. No hassle. No extra risk. No 17 Mill over 2 seasons obligation. Lots of money to spend on other line-up needs. Talented Odalis Perez stays. Maybe they want Maggs for Perez and a prospect. Or Thomas for Perez straight up. Konerko they could care less about. Trust me. They are not THAT stupid and desperate (as previously discussed). Nor is Perez as expendable as you're making him out to be if they don;t get Madduz. Dodgers LIKE him, they love his stuff and poise even after a disappointing 2003 even if they are not wild about his attitude. They do not trust either Dreifort or Alvarez to do s*** in 2004. And Jackson is a rookie who can struggle big time in his first year as you very well know. That leaves Isiii and Nomo.....and the former has a 1.60 career WHIP! Yikes. Oooh, a 37-yo Vizquel, how scary. And just because they are a year older, doesn't make them better. Gerut and Bradley are below average by #3-4 slugger standards and everything else? Garbage. They will miss the hell out of Burks and he was washed-up! Expect them to be in the BOTTOM 2 in AL next year. Bad, bad, bad. Average offense.....if Baltimore, Anaheim and Sox don't step up that is. And at least 2 of them should. That means, only Oakland, Tampa, Detroit and Cleveland will be worse than Minnesota. Mediocre is what they are and what they will be. At last we agree. Get real, Yan is a nobody and his name is Nothing. You can throw in 10 Yans and Dodgers will shrug their shoulders. If they don't want to do Perez for Konerko (and they don't), what makes you say Yan will be the deal-breaker? The guy isn't even in the top 20 Sox prospect, for crying outloud. NOBODY cares about Wright other than you and me AND 25yo Pacheco couldn't even cut it with the friggin' ROCKIES!!! Think about that for a second. Thinking he will help us this season is a big friggin' stretch. I would LOVE to give him a chance. BUT, there is the rub: 1. Everyrone around baseball knows how much we need this division and how many holes we still have. That makes all the difference in the world when it comes to negotiation process. 2. Nobody wants PK but possibly the Dodgers, our only hope. 3. Too bad the Dodgers do not want Perez for Konerko straight up. 4. Also falling under "too bad": Dodgers (likely) could care less about your and my high hopes for Wright and Pacheco, and instead see them for what they really are: mildly talented busts with good fastballs who are dime a dozen in every organization.
  20. Well, as long as we win and draw fans.....Maybe. Of course no amount of warm sake is gonna convince me of your hypothetical scenario ever taking place.
  21. Yes, you said that OP for PK awap is a very fair one, and that if anything else Sox will be slightly worse off. Later you amended it by saying you would do the deal in a a second.....but by that time, the "damage" was already done and long post exchanges commenced. Do you know why we did that? Because only lazy IDIOTS would look at Konerko-Perez without at least briefly touching upon the above subjects. Players' intristic trade value doesn't exist in a vacuum and is contingent on so many variables/considerations, that me and you but barely scratched the surface with our amateur opinions. Those who have a problem with the lenght of my posts are free to explore the vastness of my sack with their bourgeoisis tongues.
  22. I think in a first-time pitcher-hitter encounter, pitcher has an upper hand almost always. They've had so much tape on him from the pitcher friend-lier perspective while Matsui did not have a SINGLE catcher's view shot of a single ML pitcher. Takes time to get used to release points, movement, velocity-- he's been going up against inferior pitching all his life. Not an easy task to adapt. There was a stretch where he couldn't handle even a mediocre sinker. Later he adjusted and had himself a good rookie season. Sweet compact swing. Next year, I am expecting 850+ OPS and 115 RBI. Good D and solid speed and the extra money he brings in because of his name/Asian following? Icings on the cake. You're right about the last few WS games....but without Matsui, they wouldn't be IN the World Series to begin with-- remember how close it came to Boston elimination? Matsui not only came through against Pedro, but also made an AWESOME baserunning jump that plated the tying run-- most middle-of-the-line-up sluggers are stopped at third on that play IMO. Drove in 12 runs in 60+ postseason at bats. Not bad for a rookie. Of course of you expected Godzilla, then maybe he is overrated. I guess.
  23. How can anyone NOT plan to see this movie? :headshake Mel Gibson can't direct (neither can Costner-- open secret who did most of the work in BH and DWW-- as contrasted by who got most of the credit) and is an asshole extraordinaire. Caviezel as J-man? This is not Angel Eyes. Rabid anti-Semitism and ahistoricity? Gotta see it first to criticise it....right? What will Pope's people say this time? I can't wait/
