  1. Thanks, F14 She is a legend/enigma overseas; I remember watching track world championship in '90 or was it Barcelona Olympics, and they would always show her records and that German hag Krabbe and that Jamaican lady battled it out for 1st place and still couldn't touch those records from '88. Was her illness steroids-related?
  2. I might or might not, depending on Delgado's knee. Sox get Delgado as well as 4 Mill to spend on REALLY good pitcher around July. On the other hand, Cotts AND Honel are the FUTURE of this franchise. We already got burned on Kip Wells, and these two are arguably as talented as Kipster is. If I am Toronto and I am taking on salaries (esp Konerko), I sure as hell demand BOTH. I wish we could throw them a Wing or a Pacheco, but I am afraid to the rest of the baseball, those are just B-talent prospects who have limited value. Delgado is gone after 2004.....
  3. How do you figure? Koch is untradeable and Konerko was too coming into this season. Why do you think the Sox payroll is at 65 Mill instead of 58? They couldn't cut dead weight, so they decided to hold on and hope a fast start would make them more appealing to other teams. Colon's contract and attitude would have crippled this team just as Konerko's and Kock's is crippling it as we speak.
  4. When you say Stevie, I think a drinking straw and a hapless pa on all fours. :puke
  5. Funny you should say that, but just the other day Mariotti hinted at the possibility that, if he keeps [the smear campaign] up, Hawk Harrelson might find himself pitted against the court of law....

s***, I just rememered another rock flick I enjoyed -- Velvet Goldmine. Bale, Colette, Izzard =
  7. Not if you don't care what happens to your knee/ankle.
  8. Yes, because NYC newspapers are bastions of integrity and extraordinary competence. Everybody is cynical and greedy. Everybody cheats. In every industry. In every era. Mariotti's narcissistic, agenda-driven bile is easier to spot, but he is hardly the only one.
  9. Django could sure pick 'em strings, though.
  10. Exactly. I've always thought Tex looked and talked like a deadringer for a Hamas operative.
  11. Nope. Only Kelly Dransfeldt punches the ball to RF; everybody else wants to turn'n'burn, to drive the ball with an uppercut into LF corner stands. It's fine and dandy when you're ahead in the count against a crappy reliever in a blow-out, but guys like Vasquez and Zambrano are gonna make a fool out of you. Sitting on a pitch and jumping all over it is one thing, but our guys overswing even when they're behind 0-2/1-2. Remember how silly Chavez, Nomar and Sheffield looked in the AL/NLDS in 2003 when they had to go up against good pitchers? And how great Lofton and I-Rod looked on the other hand?
  12. Other than Jody Gerut, everybody else on that team is very unimpressive. I can honestly say Tigers are a better team -- if Rondel White stays healthy they might improve a whopping 25-30 games this year.

Oh yeah, that was pretty poignant. I forgot who the song is by. Come to think of it, it IS a pretty quality flick -- esp compared to other disposable junk like Rock Star, the Doors, etc. Smart and funny is a good combo. The good side of Cameron Crowe. Jimmy Fallon of course f***ed it up a bit, but the awesome PSH balances things out at the end. Still LMAO re: the pilot stuff.
  14. Very well. But we probably wouldn't have the money to re-sign Lee or presumably go after big time talent at the ASB this year........Once he got his payola, Phatolo would be sleep-walking with us -- after the Detroit start last July he had a 4.40 ERA -- except this time Detoit is a much better hitting team, and I doubt he would have the incentive to bust his ass for a new contract like he did during a pretty good 2nd half in 2003. He's gonna be a 4.00 ERA pitcher with Anaheim. He doesn't throw 100 anymore and his breaking pitch is very mediocre. NCorg was right.
  15. Thank G-d the Angels jumped on that 52 Mill dollar grenade.
  16. As a kid I've always wondered what happened to that Florence Joyner Griffith something-or-other lady who was said to have been pretty damn good in LA Olympics. I tihnk her records still hold, no?
  17. No, Jews are pure. That's why Adonai chose them to rule over the animal kingdom, quite frankly.
  18. Holy crap....it's 4 months later and the izzy-apu-tex-ss2k4 Israel vs Palestine vs Godzilla soap is still goin' on? Pour me some kindzmarauli and call me Frankensteeeen.
  19. Really? I read 3-4 (ok, it's probably closer to 30-40) books in my entire lifetime. I wouldn't be surprised if Sox fans are probably bigger readers than Cub fans, which is ironic if you think about it.

Solid flick, the soundtrack's rockin', Philip Seymor Hoffman and all.....but the airplane scene is hi-larious, especially the pilots freaking out and Jason Lee.
  21. If you're Anaheim GM, do you want that?
  22. So give them Danny Wright and Pacheco as well.
  23. In 2002, Sox started off 14-7 iirc. I could be wrong, so double check. Then again, Frank's batspeed was still not there after the tear, and Ritchie-for-Wells abomination buried the Sox.
