QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) I never took a full year of spanish, but I think your first translation is slightly off. lol of course its not the exact translation. i didnt take spanish becuase i didnt need it, i speak spanish. he said he was waiting for them 3 to come over to start the bbq. it was a joke i made in reference to teahen saying he wasnt invited to the bbq
-

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) Agree. Two years of Adrian plus Type-A compensation afterwards is more than worth that price IMO. It's about championships, and Adrian is the kind of player that could take our rotation deep into the playoffs where they have a chance to win one. BTW I have no idea why fans here would care about giving up any of these prospects. Every big trade it's the same thing: everyone loves a player, and then as soon as he's gone it's time to talk about that player's faults and how he's probably never going to do anything major. Sox fans turned on Reed, DLS, Young, etc. in a heartbeat. Even the hatred for the BMac trade only seemed to last a couple of days, and he was a big part of our title win in '05. Trust me, if SoxTalk users log in tomorrow and see "Sox Acquire Adrian Gonzalez" sitting there as the top thread in the Palehose Talk section, and then they see we just gave up Hudson, Flowers, Danks, and maybe some filler, everybody is going to go f***ing nuts with joy and start thinking about the ALCS vs. the Red Sox or Yankees. I don't put any stock in that reported offer, but if it's true, the Sox are crazy for passing that up. yea, cant see prospects holding kenny back. agone adds a whole new dimension to the lineup. imagine agone and cq in the middle of that linuep? wow.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) That defense is going to really help out the Twins pitching staff though. Sox vs. Twins IMO: Offense: Twins Starting rotation: Sox Bullpen: toss up given how uncertain they are, but taking the Sox Bench: Twins Defense: Twins Manager: Twins tough to say but its easy to make predictions early on , u never know what can happen. mauer could get hurt and miss the whole year or peavy could, things like that. games arent won on paper. i see the glass as half full and not half empty. i feel pretty good about the sox. hope im right

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) I don't think he's going to care much about the politics of dealing Gonzalez so much as he cares about the prospects he gets back. From everything I've heard, Westmoreland and Kelly are basically can't miss prospects (we really only have one player who could turn into a can't miss prospect at this point in Mitchell), and I've heard good things about Reddick and Anderson as well, and they could honestly deal Buccholz is they really wanted to as well. The one advantage the Sox might have is their two tradeable prospects up the middle in Flowers and Danks, especially Flowers. It's not easy to find a catcher with that type of offensive ability, so he is very, very valuable. From what docsox mentioned in a post somewhere, the Sox apparently have an offer on the table for Gonzalez of Flowers, Danks, and Hudson, but they don't want to do it. I imagine it's because the Sox are in absolute love with Flowers, and with Pierzynski's contract expiring this year, it makes some sense that they'll probably put Flowers into the catcher's role in 2011. I also imagine there's quite a bit of love for Hudson too, but I don't think Williams is afraid to trade a pitcher. I read an article in a Baseball Prospectus book that pitching prospects flameout about 67% of the time, while hitting prospects are generally around 40-50% of the time. I see that, and then look to Brandon McCarthy, who had a similar progression during the 2004 season though not nearly as dominant as Hudson's was, and how he looked great when he came up in 2005. I'm rambling now, but the point is that, from what I gather, Flowers is the main piece in the entire deal and could be the difference between Gonzalez joining the White Sox, the Red Sox, or staying in San Diego, and that I really don't think it's anyone else in the entire system (other than Beckham, who's obviously not going anywhere). do u think thats true? i sort of dont because as much as we think theyre ligit, (i think so), gonzalez is too good to pass up because of 3 prospects. i can see why sd might not want to, but from the sox standpoint, they should jump on it. to me, the only reason i just dont see the sox maybe not wanting or getting him is that because when he becomes a fa, hes easily going to want 5+ years and they simply just dont like to hand out long term deals

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) Our pitching staff was better than the Twins last year too. How'd that work out? Now, it's better, and our offense is the same, if not worse. Hey, maybe we might even make it to second place this year! and how many games did we throw away with colon and contreras pitching? and the toll it took on the pen? and buehrle didnt win games in the second half. ok, they may be better than us but i dont see them running away with the division with that rotation and the change in ballpark is a big question mark. if we had that rotation , everyone would be saying were finishing in 3rd,4th. its just funny how everyone is assuming the worst for our players but making it seem like every player on the twins is a certainty. everything is going to go perfect for them, ok.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) THey are far and away the team to beat. Their lineup is just incredible. They could go out and just run away from everyone like we did in 05. f*** i thought pitching is the most important thing? no way are they far and away the best team. they have a lot of question marks with their rotation imo. pavano is avg at best. not a guarantee to stay healthy either, liriano is a big question mark, 4 and a half era for baker last yr, slowley had an era torwards 5, blackburn is their best pitcher and has won 11 games back to back years with an era of 4. our pitching is way better. their rotation may have potential but its far from being able to say that its very good. ill take a well above pitching staff and ave. linueup over a well above lineup with (at the moment) avg. pitching rotation

QUOTE (Ranger @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 08:31 PM) Your evidence is that because you've never heard of it then it never happens? No, it is different because websites make money based on web traffic and, for pay-sites, based on subscriptions. What makes you think they wouldn't be interested to know that a number of people are less like to pay for "insider" because those people can just go to Soxtalk and get the postings for free? It's entirely different than copying short excerpts from a book. It's espcially different now because of the ease of accessing the web nowadays. I know of a few websites that have been contacted by other sites demanding copyrighted text be removed and links inserted in their place if they wished to use the content. It does happen. Just because it hasn't happened here to your knowledge doesn't mean it doesn't happen anywhere. WSI, for example, routinely removes copyrighted text because of it. Trust me, if ESPN web staff knew it was happening, the administrators here would get notified. Lol this board has been crazy this offseason, we need the season to start already!

he might be the next hanley or he might bust, you never know. some players live up to the big hype(beckham) and some dont (alex gordon) of course this is as of now, regarding those two players. esp alex gordon, he was supposed to be a great, cant miss prospect. edit: i would like to add, cant wait for the season to start

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) When I saw the name "Hanley Ramirez" used as a comp for that kid I just x'ed out of the page. theres quite a few comparisons that i read. so hes supposably the next hanley, soriano , renteria, andrus, tejada

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) I know he has a huge infatuation for Starlin Castro so that's probably part of why they're ranked so high. He was the first prospect guy to hype Castro and now everyone's on the bandwagon. i was doing a little reading about him to see what the hype is. so basically he projects as edgar renteria, with a little better defense

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 07:34 PM) Tell me why the Cubs are 7th. They have no farm system to speak of, and couldnt even unload their non prospects on other teams. Keith Law is not a good minor league person. well if theyre ranked 7th then everybodys minorleague system must suck. i was looking at our top ten. its not all too impressive but i dont know if id rank it last...i agree a lot more with SI. esp with what they said about our system. SI RANKINGS

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Miguel Olivo's been a pretty decent catcher throughout his career, and Mike Morse wasn't anything more than a throw-in. Jeremy Reed has been a monumental bust though. For a guy who I once saw compared to Tony Gwynn and then later a simple Mark Kotsay type player, he has been pretty horrendous. thats my point, if you have a chance to get a really good player you should. like if we could get gonzalez even for hudson, flowers and danks2 and maybe someone else, i wouldnt mind too much because although they all seem like very , very legit prospects, you just never know what can happen. ive seen too many busts
-
half the time, prospects dont amount to what theyre expected to anyways(such as all the busts the sox have had, alex gordon, delmon young, etc). u do need young talent (such as beckham)but theyre there to be traded to help your team too. if we didnt get garcia then we dont win the w.s. and what did those 3 prospects we traded turn out to be? busts.
-
oh,i didnt know fields was considered "young talent". ranked dead last, really? congrats to teams, such as the nationals, who suck so much as a result, their future looks bright.

QUOTE (Ranger @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) Yes, the Twins have capable starters, but I wouldn't say they're nearly as good as the front 4 the Sox will send out there. The Sox should also have a good bullpen, especially combined with a really strong rotation. They have the two most talented players in the division in Morneau and Mauer, but the Sox have some pretty good talent too. As I have said 1000 times, I have concerns about the DH. But when people bring up Kotsay/Jones/Vizquel/Nix, it's almost as if they're thinking all four of those guys will be in the lineup together at the same time. This is one spot out of 9 we're talking about. And while I share the same concerns on that one spot in the lineup, I think we're drastically overstating the impact it's going to have. They would probably be better with a sure bat in that spot, but it is not going to mean everything. I will say this now, and you can tell me I'm wrong if it doesn't work out, but I think this lineup will do a much better job than people realize. And I say that because I think Quentin and Rios get back to where they need to be. This offense will live and die by what those two contribute. I believe that when we look back on the season in September, if it is an offensive failure (or success), it will be mainly because of those two guys or because of what Konerko does or doesn't do. It won't be because of who the DH isn't. If I'm wrong about that, I'll wear it. i agree with you, great post cris.
