QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) Jenks has all his health issues, Linebrink is Linebrink, Randy Williams has never done anything worth mentioning, Pena is still a highly-talented work-in-progress, Putz is coming off surgery. The only virtual certainty is Thornton. Yes, we have some nice bench players. The problem is we do not have any starters for RF or DH. We've blown our wad on bench players and reclamation projects. You can even make the argument that we have actually downgraded from our already pathetic 2009 offense. The only way that wouldn't be the case would be if both Quentin and Rios perform up to their expectations and Paulie doesn't regress. Who is going to replace the 1st half Dye had, or Thome, or Pods? This offense as currently constructed is terrible. Jones doesn't have hardly any potential anymore. He has slowed down a ton. It's not like if the 2009 Texas version of Andruw Jones got regular playing time he would have been good again. The guy needs to come up with a time machine. The time of year really doesn't matter if we're out of money. We're stuck with Paulie and Linebrink, and Kenny has already said Jenks will be the closer. Where are we going to come up with the funds to sign anyone good? We've blown our resources on luxuries. That's why the offseason blows. I realize this will be very unpopular among the "it's only December!!!" crowd but I don't care. So far, Kenny's offseason grade should be no better than a D. instead of having a 100 mil payroll, whats 5 mil more?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) Well they couldn't come to an agreement with Bay. So I don't see them being players for Holliday either. So they're definitely lacking a little offensively. All I'm saying is that they've got the prospects. We don't. why not for holliday? so if we offered flowers, viciedo, danks and hudson, they wouldnt do it?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) The Red Sox have a considerably better farm than we do. So they wouldn't have to give up pieces from the major league team to make a deal work. i dont think they really need him that much. they just signed lackey and still are going to spend a lot of money on a of'er,most likely holliday. then just sign beltre and keep youkillis at 1st. no reason to trade prospects. we really need a legit bat like that

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) The Angels are probably looking at a 3rd place finish with how improved the Ms and Rangers are looking. I think the Ms will be a very strong team next year. Mind-blowing defense, strong pitching and a rather balanced offense. They need a power hitter and then they're pretty much a complete team. besides felix and lee, their rotation isnt that great

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) It's just classic ESPN s*** slurping the Red Sox. How does Clay Buchholz even have trade value anymore? Isn't he like 25 now, and having done nothing really in the bigs? ur completely right. so the red sox are going to get gonzalez by giving them buchholz (and prospects) yet we would have to give up danks or floyd (and prospects) b.s.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) You did admit to watching The Cove recently.

QUOTE (pktmotion @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) I'm just telling you what I heard on the radio. I'm skeptical about a Gonz trade to the White Sox as well, but If Kenny is making a move it makes me wonder if its for him. maybe thats why he passed on matsui ....yea,hes most likely not coming here i doubt kw could fly that much under the radar. what a bargain, a-gon is going to make less than 5 mil next yr, wow. get it done!

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) Vlad could work. i dont know why,but i rather have vlad than matsui

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) Kenny indicated he's 100%. He's already been throwing off the mound for teams. Barring any set-backs, he'll be ready to rock and roll right when training camp starts. How effective he is and whether the injuries hinder him or come back could possibly happen though. i thought he had thrown for teams too but then i read this yesterday

QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 05:43 PM) I would have preferred to keep him, but this shows how cash strapped the White Sox are. They added Putz for $3 million, but can't afford Carassco for around 1.5 to 2 million. They still have to find a lea d-off hitter, probably a LF, and possibly a DH still, and that is why I am wondering how they can add a few pieces (even if they don't cost much money) for the offense, and keep the payroll under $100 million. Right now, they are at about $81 or $82 million with I believe 16 players signed. Jenks, Danks and Quentin will probably cost another $13 million for next season, and if you add in 2 or 3 guys like Hudson, Randy Williams and Carlos Torres (guys who make the minimum), we're at 22 players or so at about $95 million with so no upgrades made to the offense (or holes filled). Don't they have to find a way to get better now without increasing the payroll? If so, I would guess we're looking at a trade of some sorts, either to free up money or trade salary for salary. with that being said, i dont see how they can afford a dh such as matsui, who would be getting 5+ mil. i can see them getting a cheap option as far as the leadoff man goes because theres quite a few guys available. but unless they trade someone ,i dont see how were going to add a dh (matsui)

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) That's an interesting quote about Carrasco. Not sure why it rubs me slightly the wrong way, but the best of luck to him in the future. yea,but good luck with being a starter lol def. would have to be in the nl. to me,it makes a lot of sense. its like ranger said, were not going to have colon and contreras anymore. thats why he pitched so much. i wouldnt worry about the long man at all with the staff we have. i think hudson is way more than capable of doing the job. we can use that 1-3 mil somewhere else for sure.

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) Read the cubs drafted josh hamilton in the rule 5 a few years ago and traded him to reds right away... i can't believe hendry is still gm. yea,hes made some pretty good trades like getting harden, lee and ramirez for nothing but most of his signings have been bad. like the whole outfield, dempster for 5 yrs,etc

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 06:05 PM) I would much rather have Gardner! ill take either of the two. kenny should really look into it. both are definatley expendable and cheap

not bad, having 3 arms in the pen who can close out games

QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) Can we please take a step back for a moment ... If we are seriously considering a dinosaur with bad knees who might be able to play RF, but mostly DH, then why in the would we not be interested in re-signing Jerry "I can rake other than 2H09" Dye?! Is a lefty more important than sexy?? Jerry Dye: Year Team AB R H HR RBI BB SB BA OBP SLG 2009: CHW 503 78 126 27 81 64 0 0.2505 0.3397 0.4533 3yr avg: CHW 534 81 142 30 85 51 2 0.2659 0.3333 0.4963 GODZILLLLA: Year Team AB R H HR RBI BB SB BA OBP SLG 2009: NYY 456 62 125 28 90 64 0 0.2741 0.3669 0.5088 3yr avg: NYY 447 68 127 21 79 58 1 0.2841 0.3672 0.4832 jerry? yea theres a difference. matsui wont play the field much, he'll mostly just dh and dye only wants to play the field and he cant though

QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) assuming the money is the same i would rather have pods back. ill take crisp, atleast he can catch the ball and wont get picked off 20 times

QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 12:45 PM) Has anyone heard anything at all about the condition of Crisps shoulders? Has he even picked up a baseball since the surgeries? I was all in favor of Crisp a couple of years ago, especially over the likes of Owens and Anderson. Now I'm not so sure. not really except for this in the trib: Crisp said his shoulder is healing well after season-ending surgery last June and said he will be 100 percent by spring training.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) i just feel like funny things like this always happen on the north side where some guys just don't fit...i'm not saying hes a great teammate or would work here, but if they cubs pay 8 of the remaining 20 mil on his deal...moving him to full time DH, in a situation where I really think he would be playing to prove the cubs wrong as extra motivation would be good for a guy like milton, and i think i would take the risk.....obviously im just blowing smoke here, but don't forget KW called Peavy asking him about a former teammate...everyone assumed it was Adrian Gonzalez, but you never know (however, it could have been henry blanco for that matter) he hasnt been able to fit in anywhere , i dont ever see it happening either. i cant imagine that if a player was told "hey did u hear, milton bradley is ur new teamate" that they would be happy or excited at all

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) so I'm not supposed to believe Gordon Edes, who is from the Boston area and would have a few inside sources within the Red Sox organization? K i was always under the usumption too that the deal wouldnt get done because of delcarmen. i think ur right
-
its a lot about luck when it comes to filling out spots in the pen. every team needs a guy or two to have a good yr that u wouldnt expect of. happens every yr like with us in 05. im all for it

QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) I'm sort of on the boat with you there. Upton isn't my favorite but no denying he has tons of talent/tools but hasn't put it together. It's just visions of his 08' end of season/playoffs where you see how much of a threat he could be if he puts it together. That and it doesn't help that his brother is gradually coming into his own. He is one of those guys who will live off of his prospect days/hype until people finally give up on him. Which wont be for a while. exactly. sure i would take him but i dont like the idea of trading prospects(danks, viciedo, flowers, hudson, etc etc) for him as if he were some proven bat. yea he has the tools but who knows,he might never get it together, ill pass
-
QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) Hah. I think that is a bit of a pipe dream on those guys. Halladay I think can be acquired, even any of those guys mentioned, but only one of them. For the sake of this discussion, if we were to go for Halladay, he'd undoubtedly take away those pieces we'd need for a guy like Gonzalez or Upton. I think we could acquire a middle-tier hitter (still a big bat in comparison to Pods or Thome though). Those two won't generate excitement and hardly make this team a contender or fill the void we need. I won't throw names out there for hitters but it'd be something off the radar because thats just how Kenny seems to operate, so the AGone, Upton or Crawfords of the world don't fit. So draw up conclusions on hitters via trade cuz we won't have the pieces for a elite hitter, but a big bat should be attainable via trade and free agency. why does everyone want upton so bad? hes had one real good yr and thats it. ur going to trade ur farm for a player in hopes that he'll be what u think he can be?

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Their careers are not comparable at all. DeRosa was a utility player for the first few years of his career. It wasn't until he had a chance to play regularly back in '06 that he started to show what he's capable of doing. Teahen has been a regular for four or five years now, and just one look at his stats and all you see is less than average production everywhere you look. I would be ok with having Teahen around in a utility player capacity, given he can at least get by at a lot of different positions. But the thought of watching him get 500+ at bats and turning in the kind of production he has thus far in his career makes me sick - and we have three years of it now coming our way! Oy! I mean, believe me - I hope I'm wrong about this and that he breaks out and is a productive player for us. But he's done nothing to date to even remotely convince me that is going to happen. tehean needs to play one position and thats it. ok,if you dont want to compare them, fine. but u think anyone thought he would suddenly become good at 31? tehean has the ability to be better than him

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) Maybe all of this is a smokescreen to divert the media away from another deal. The media is focused on Halladay so talk to Toronto about it while you seal another deal else where. that does sound like KW. my exact thoughts.
