  1. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better ..crisp would of been the leadoff hitter though
  2. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) Lillibridge might make the team somehow to backup CF why? if we sign crisp, for example, hed play center almost everyday and when he wouldnt, rios would and kotsay can play rf
  3. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) No need for Coco Crisp now I would think. You would figure De Aza could be the speedy guy off the bench possibly. why not? even with signing jones,it doesnt solve the leadoff spot. jones will be utility player, not an everyday player
  4. QUOTE (Ranger @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) You might actually be arguing against yourself here. Podesdnik was in the same situation when they picked him up last year and became a "sound financial move." Injury-plagued, poor-production, and signed for the minimum...that put him in position to be able to, at the least, exceed expectations. If Crisp does get acquired, it will be afor a small amount and you have to figure he can only be better than what he did last season. By definition, a low-risk move and financially reasonable. That said, this wouldn't be the most exciting move if they made it. I suspect they desire better than that. id much rather take a chance with crisp. and hes going to be a lot cheaper. when healthy,id take crisp over pods any day, esp. because of his defense over pods'
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) He was hurt and it was in 215 plate appearances. Crisp is a great defender (better than Rios in CF) and he can give you league average offense with some stolen bases at a cheap price. Why not? funny how so many people want pods resigned. he most likely going to regress offensively and his defense and base running is awful. id definatley take a chance on crisp. i think its a great possibility since we need a leadoff hitter and kenny always gets his guy
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) Yeah, he's not going to give you much at this point, even if he could hit his body isn't going to hold up over more than a half a season's worth of games and he's not a good option in a platton. Thome's not going to make significantly more than Griffey but he does have significantly more left in the tank, so if the Sox do go the ~40 year old, lefty DH route it should be Big Jim. isnt it time to move on with that though?
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) Griffey could have fit in with the Sox again as a lefty DH if that's the case. You really think that he's "done" as a player? i think hes perfect for a team that isnt going to do anything like the mariners, royals,o's etc. but when ur trying to win a w.s., he'll hurt you more than he'll help you, playing everday. you need more production than that
  8. i thought it was great, it was realistic. i was glad that they didnt make the ending obvious. meaning where he would of made the majors. and how its not easy to adjust to being in a different country. awesome
  9. i guess this means theres a good chance we take a flyer on coco crisp?
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) That rotation is so f***ing filthy, its hilarious we are debating the difference between our #3 and #4 guys when they are both pretty awesome. Seeing Peavy's name at the top of that list still amazes me. me too. i never would have thought, two, three years ago, winning the cy young, being one of the top 3 pitchers in the game, that hed ever wind up being on the sox
  11. QUOTE (WCSox @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 07:07 PM) If the Red Sox give Bay a huge deal this winter, there may not be a suitor to give Gonzalez a Texiera-type deal next winter. Don't get me wrong, Gonzalez will get paid a lot... just not Texiera money. how is 18 mil unrealistic for him?
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 06:20 PM) Great piece from Gonzalez. Clearly these are the interesting aspects of the trade and it is important that we indicate we only are verifying the prelim discussions. Gonzalez breaks out the reasons the deal wouldn't happen, but he also points out the Padres interest in a SP, CF, C, and 2B. The Sox have 3 prospects that fill 3 of those needs and they happen to be our top 3 prospects. Bottom line, there is a lot of stuff in our system that would interest the Padres. The question is can the Sox take the risk and will they completely take a shot on Gonzalez putting them over the top for the next two years, because after that, it is highly unlikely the Sox brass would spend the necessary money to keep Gonzalez on the south-side. it would be awesome to get gonzalez but if the sox dont think or wouldnt want to pay what its going to cost to resgine him when he hits the market, then i dont want them to get him. they know how hes going to get a teixeira type contract so if theyre willing to give it to him than do it ,if not no. and i dont think theyd make this deal if they feel he'll be to expensive becuause i remember they got freddy and knew they were going to be able to resign him. they werent going to make the deal if they couldnt. (wow, the market has changed, we resigned freddy when he was an ace for 3/27 and now pitchers get 16+ and 5+ yrs lol)
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 13, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) Yeah, it was a pretty awful trade. i dont mind it at all. to me it was a salary dump. and i dont think hes good at all
  14. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) You dont want to mess up that elite rotation we are setting ourselves up with. But it really does become moot if we dont do something to improve the lineup. It is not heresy to deal from a strength and put Hudson into the rotation. Sending Floyd and Flowers as principals in a deal would get something in return that could rank us at the top of our division. And then you free up Floyd's dollars down the road....not to say his deal isnt reasonable (it is)...but this way you get to observe Danks and CQ a little longer before deciding who to give that saved cash to. i dont know what my feelings are, im stuck in the middle...gonzalez is one of my favorite players in baseball but floyd is really really good. i honestly rather trade buehrle instead of floyd or danks but thats not a possiblity for various reasons. i have faith in kw
  15. QUOTE (kwill @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 05:39 PM) I read in Rob Neyer's blog about the likely hood of Adrian Gonzalez being traded this offseason is becoming more of a reality. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...nzalez-on-block I know I like to dream, but its the offseason. Here are Gonzalez's stats last year. SEASON TEAM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2008 SD 162 616 103 172 32 1 36 119 74 142 0 0 .279 .361 .510 .871 2009 SD 160 552 90 153 27 2 40 99 119 109 1 1 .277 .407 .55 .958 The man is a beast going into his prime. Also, he is rather cheap at this point making about 10.5 million( total) in the last 2 years of his contract. This all concludes to that it will take an arm and a leg to get him. But, he provides something we need which is a left handed power hitting slugger. This trade would be much like the Prince Fielder rumor that was thrown around. Package would start with Alexi, Hudson, and Flowers. This would be enticing to them since it would provide three quality players they could plug in on the cheap. Problem is this really depletes are farm system. Plus, it would mean we would have insert Jayson Nix into the starting role. I am a nix fan, but some of you would rather him be off the roster. The Lineup would look alot like this: Pods( if resigned) or Jordan Danks Beckham Quentin Gonzalez Konerko Piezenski Rios Teahen Nix I think the lineup would be pretty nasty. Again, our farm would take a beating and we would be in a must win now situation. Also, I have my doubts that San Diego would accept that package. Just wondering what some of you think. Also, I know people will be skeptical, but understand I am just throwing suggestion out there. nix starting...dont know about that
  16. QUOTE (quickman @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) I am not sure I follow, Why would we need someone to replace PK when we would be trading for Gonzelez? In addition, if we had both PK and Gonzelez, I am certian PK would DH whether he liked it or not, might save his aging hip from getting worse anyway. In fact maybe we could offload PK for a relief pitcher if we made that trade with sandiego. i meant that it makes sense to get gonzalez bcuz if we dont, when pk leaves after the yr, we wont have anyone in the minors ready to replace him
  17. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) Gonzelez makes perfect sense for the Sox in the grand scheme of things. He's 27 years old, is a lefty with tremendous power, high OBP and is due 4.75 million in 2010 and 5.5 million in 2011 before he hits the market. It may cost us Viciedo, Hudson and others but this dude would be a MONSTER at the Cell. KW BETTER be pursuing this. . exactly, makes tons of sense. esp bcuz we dont really have anyone down in the minor leagues to replace pk...but i dont see us getting him this yr unless we trade pk because i dont think either would want to dh
  18. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) I have met his wife and all I can say is... RRRRROOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWRRRRRRR! Too bad she has horrible taste in men. i dont think it was his looks that she was after..lol
  19. i wonder what it would cost, realistically,( i dont believe how people say floyd/danks, beckham, hudson, etc all in one deal), to get gonzalez. i think we have what it takes to get him and hes not expensive this yr or next yr. and when he becomes a fa, we'll have more money to spend than we do now. so i guess its about what they want in return
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 07:37 PM) For one; the Fielding Bible is written by John Dewan, the man who developed the plus/minus system believed by many to be on equal grounds as UZR, just not as widely available, so right out the bat - no. The fielding bible awards are determined by a panel of 10 experts chosen by John Dewan using a 10 point scale (100 points possible). They use whatever criteria they see fit to determine the finest defenders at each position and given the wide range of baseball ideology at play here (Gammons and James are basically polar opposites) you're going to have very different determining factors within the panel. It's a fantastic resource that basically came about because the Gold Glove sucks and Dewan felt something needed to be done. if torii hunter is still playing at the age of 40,hed probly still win it..
  21. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 28, 2009 -> 04:31 AM) The other chick Phillips banged when he was the Mets GM,a Rosa Rodriguez,is uglier than Hundley...dude needs some glasses pronto. lol Rodriguez
  22. QUOTE (Cubano @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) The Tigers have contacted Chapman's camp. He may be striking out Alexei and Dayan in detriment of Sox fans. Ha, ha, ha. Even the Orioles have expressed interest. That is interesting giving the refusal of the O's to sign recent arrive defectors. it means nothing when they say "so-and-so" team has made interest. well of course every team will have interest in a talent like that. that doesnt mean they'll have the money though.
  23. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 05:58 AM) Not KW. Fielder is a BorAss client. Adrian Gonzalez
  24. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) No thank you. We need to start heading in a different direction. that^
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) The I hate Dye gang seriously needs to give it a rest as well. i dont hate dye. i just would like someone younger and more athletic out there in rf(or lf depending if cq plays rf) we had the worst defense and i would like the sox to improve next year. if u want him back as a dh, fine. but not in the of
