Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
ptatc replied to Soxnfins's topic in Pale Hose Talk
His job is to build a team to win. It's not to sign players, or trade players or draft players individually. There isn't just one way to build the team. He will have failed if the team isn't winning this year and competing for the playoffs in 2012. -

Agreed, I wonder if it was the years. -

I still wouldn't want Castellanos. An OF with him and Jimenez would be terrible. -

I would guess they didn't want to go 5 years. Wasn't there a reports that said the Sox wanted to do shorter term deals? -

He's still on the White Sox. -

The Abreu deal will not be the reason they don't sign Wheeler in any way. If they don't sign wheeler it will be because they determined his value wasn't worth either the years or the money. RH and KW have always operated with their value of the player unless they are up against the budget limit (they aren't here) or if JR won't approve the money (Machado). -

Personally, I wouldnt go six years on wheeler. I dont blame them if that's where it goes. 5 is iffy but would be a consideration. -

No doubt. We know that JR sets the budget so it's really not the FO crying poor. They can only spend what JR approves. Hopefully, he will be loyal to his own players and keep them. -
Great, on a day I will be working or flying all day. Going to have to buy the wifi on the plane, I guess,

Not coincidentally they have all had UCL injuries except Lopez.

Not your fathers Yankees: Jacoby Ellsbury situation
ptatc replied to Look at Ray Ray Run's topic in The Diamond Club
Seeing anyone he wishes isn't in his or the teams best interest. They are paying him a great deal of money for his physical performance. They have the right to know what he is doing with his body as well. If he doesnt request the approval, they dont need to pay him that money. This is especially true with nutritional assistance. This could easily lead to PED suspensions. How many times have you heard a player say they didn't know what they were putting into their body. I would lean towards the player in cases of a specific injury or true health issues. For nutritional assistance as a team I would want to screen the advice and supplements very closely. -

This is a tough one. The Yankees should rightfully be concerned and have a say in things that will affect his performance. Seeing some of the absolute quacks out there over the years would make me require approval as well. However, to totally void a contract seems too extreme. -
So is it Hahn with a poor signing or JR rewarding loyalty. You could throw KW, Renteria and the bat boy in as well.
-
It is less likely. The replacement is really strong, but it can happen. Jace Fry for example.
-
Dont forget to add Collins into the rotation as well.
-
Fisk more than Belle.
-
I'll take Fisk and Officer Karkovice.

Over the past 3 years, since wheeler had his injury, keuchal has been the better if not equal pitcher if you like WAR as a stat.
-
I would prefer Keuchel on a 3 year deal over Wheeler on a 5 year one.

Omar Vizquel will not return to managing in white sox system in 2020

There is a significant correlation between analytics and elbow injuries. The analytics show that the harder you throw, the more strikeouts you get this less opportunity to for plays. Research shows the harder you throw more frequently, the more likely you are to injure the UCL. -
Should have been there when I worked with them and the starting QBs were Randy Wright and Don Majkowski. Fun times.
-
The pressure should be on to start winning. It's not on to spend money, it's not on to make trades. The only thing that matters is winning going forward. How they do it is up to them. If they don't win, then out they go. This is the season where should start to become competitive.

I'm in.
