Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) That is a nice swing. Not very long at all. Wonder if he knows where right field is?

AJP retires
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) TV is the perfect retirement venue for AJ. Yes. He'll be good at it.

AJP retires
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 02:30 PM) I'd be interested in bringing him back in some capacity with the orignization. Whether that be as an announcer, as minor league coach, as a bench coach, etc. If it weren't for Ventura failing I'd really even be beating the drum for him as a chance as a future manager. But I think it'd be smart to let him learn the trade over a few years first. I think he'll thrive in his role with Fox though, should be interesting. He will not be a coach/manager. He doesn't have the "personality" for it.

Predict Thy Numbers: Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) He also has flat feet. The bony issues are what caused this. I would guess that they a functional pronated (flat) feet as opposed to structural.

Predict Thy Numbers: Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) This is worth the click... it's obvious his feet are royal f***ed up https://instagram.com/p/BSJkXGrFwrR/ Looking at this video, it's pretty obvious now as to why he has foot issues. Look at how much tibial varum (the bowing in) he has in his lower leg. His bone structure adds stress to either his knee or his feet. His issues manifested in his feet. This is not an easy issue to fix.

Delmonico
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 10:44 PM) Small sample size today, but he passed the eye test in-person today. Good at bats and he had quick hands on that HR (crushed it). The AB where he raked that double was nice. If he could play defense, we'd be on to something. I don't know if he'll hit good enough to be a DH. Everything is a small sample size until a players get 400 ABs in a season.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) I don't think they are a suitor at all. Seems to me it's the Astros, Braves and Yankees in that order. That does make the most sense. However, you never know if a GM gets a fire lit under him by a really good or really poor start to the season.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) Then why would Hahn still be talking with Huntington if he was insistent on not moving Meadows? It sounds like Meadows is a must for the Sox. Maybe Hahn isn't insisting on Meadows. He may be asking for a number of others instead of the single headliner and the Pirates can't afford to give up that many quality prospects.

Delmonico
QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) Is Delmonico getting a bit overlooked as a potential good player for the White Sox? Don't know if the player is any good but it's my favorite steak

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) I don't know. I bet it was used at least as an outline. A lot of things went right then. And for the most part, they acquired guys that were maybe a year closer than this current group of acquistions to contributing on the major league roster. There are a couple of guys here that could probably get their feet wet this year, but a lot of them are at least a couple of years away, and rookies usually don't lead to many wins. If it happens again where most everything goes right, it could be 3 years. Some problems, it could be a decade. People who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) There are two huge differences between us and the Cubs. They stocked on positional talent. We have not. They hit free agency and the international markets hard. I don't see that happening for us. Thinking mid-term, Frazier and Cabrera will be gone. Avi probably isn't going to change. That leaves 3B, LF and RF open... for who? CF is a position of weakness both at the majors and in the minors. Our best hope is for one of Engel or May to get it? Odds of that? Probably not great. Catcher is a weakness. Our best hope of a catcher is years away... if he can stick. That right there is half of our line up in the next two years, with nothing clear in sight. That is without considering Abreu is on track for FA after 2019. Pitching I think we will be more than fine in. Positional players? I just don't see it today. Positional players have have less risk than pitchers in FA. I think they will be willing to pony up for some when the time comes. The Sox and the Cubs have done the same thing just with a different group. I would much rather have cost controlled pitching and pay for the positional players.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) This is the exact reason that people are too optimistic on this rebuild. The window is way too short for the guys who are in the minors now to be productive at a level to put us on a playoff arc. Plus there is still not nearly enough offensive talent even here to achieve that. Like it or not, with not getting much offensive talent in the Eaton/Sale deals, plus not getting anything for Q as of yet, the timeline really hasn't advanced that far. We still need drafts and development out of players we don't have yet. I disagree. I think 2019 is the year that could be the first of the competitive years. They should have Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer and Burdi in the minors in 2017. In 2018 they should all be ready to be at the MLB level. By 2019 they should all be ready to contribute a successful season. They will also have Rodon and possibly Q. This will create an outstanding pitching staff at a very cheap level. Moncada will be ready by then. They will then build more offense in FA which are more reasonable contracts than pitching. Will they definitely win in 2019? No, but that will be the first competitive year.

The Significant Hurt - Prospect injury updates
Didn't know that Tilson had a previous stress fracture in his foot. There has to be some biomechanical issue there. Hopefully, they can figure it out.

Tim Anderson signs 6 year extension
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 10:04 AM) I like the deal. There is going to be some downside risk in the last guaranteed year or two, but the upside far outweighs the downside. The thing that worries me about these types of deals, and even moreso with a guy like Anderson who hasn't even accrued a full year of service time, is what it does to them mentally. Anderson now knows how much money he is going to make the next 6 years of his life, no matter how well or poor he performs on the field. It is certainly conceivable that some players may lose some their drive to become the best player they can be, since they're making the same amount of money no matter what happens. Hahn has a pretty great track record with these types of extensions, and obviously the Sox know Tim Anderson far better than anyone posting here, so I trust that they think Timmy will be determined no matter what. But it is always something to consider. It is only human nature to work harder when you know there is significant benefits in doing so. This is true only if money is your motivating factor. If he truly wants to be the best player he can be, just to be the best player he can be, then it won't be a factor. Like you said, the organization knows him better than anyone so would would think that the latter situation is true.

Hawk reducing games in 2017 - offers to step away from PBP after 2017
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) I dislike the Farmer/DJ combo a lot more than Benetti. Farmer seems so monotonous and DJ is just boring. I like their bit. They play off each other in a fun way. It's tough on radio when you don't have the visual to reply upon.

Hawk reducing games in 2017 - offers to step away from PBP after 2017
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 10:01 AM) I mean, I'm an older guy too (relative to most of the board anyway, I assume). I like explanations, and some stories sprinkled in. But he doesn't really explain things, he just tells a lot of stories. I am not saying I want super-dry either. I will probably get crucified for this, but I really like the Cubs TV team. They are entertaining, have fun, but deliver good info and are open to all manner of angles. They incorporate advanced stats, but aren't dry. It is possible to do both. I agree you can do both but it is difficult and most can't do it without sounding condescending. The Cubs broadcast can be good. But then Len starts into his "I don't know how many times I can explain these numbers and why people refuse to listen to it" spiel. I get what he's doing but just explain what you want and move on. He's like the post game host who needs to constantly prove a point.

Hawk reducing games in 2017 - offers to step away from PBP after 2017
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) It wasn't a question, but we're on the same page regardless. Ok. Let's take it step by step I was responding to the fact that the Sox will lose 100 games in 2018. I said the trades would look awful if they lose 100 games in 2018. He responded by saying they will lose 100 without Q, Frazier , Robertson et al. My response was that with the players they acquired, they trades would look awful because the players they acquired should be contributing. To which you responded that you didn't think some of the lesser players would be ready. Hence, I wasn't implying you asked a question but it was from the conversation with the other poster.

Hawk reducing games in 2017 - offers to step away from PBP after 2017
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 08:14 AM) Like 70 percent of him at this point is dead air. Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion but I don't find him entertaining at all at this point. Yep. Personal preferences.

Hawk reducing games in 2017 - offers to step away from PBP after 2017
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 08:04 AM) I like Hawk and Jason. One thing they have got to do is if they continue with Sox math, and I'm not on Twitter so I don't participate, they need to allow for more than the same guy winning every time. OK dude, we get it. You know all the players numbers and have 3 Ipads set up to BR to get all the answers. Once you win, you should be ineligible to win again until the next season. I agree. It's a good combo.

Hawk reducing games in 2017 - offers to step away from PBP after 2017
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 07:17 AM) Hawk is, today at least, an awful announcer. He throws in a constant stream of drawl-tinged one-liners that got old a decade ago pretty constantly, leaves huge gaps of silence when he's not in a good mood, and utterly refuses to acknowledge most any useful statistical measures. He spends half his broadcasts telling old war stories, and they're the same ones. My question is, what is he actually good at? I will say that when the team is doing well, he's obviously very excited about it and that helps bring the fans in emotionally. I think that's his only positive quality in the job, to be honest. Entertaining. He tries to explain to fans why something is happening on the field. Too many of the broadcasters that use stats instead of examples try to educate fans on numbers behind the game instead of the game. Personally, and I know I'm old and in the minority, but I enjoy hearing about comparisons of player style and approaches to the game. Granted, Hawk goes overboard but I like it better than the dry professionalism in an entertainment industry.

Hawk reducing games in 2017 - offers to step away from PBP after 2017
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 03:04 AM) You actually think guys like Basabe, Diaz will be ready by that point? Hell, even Kopech might be a stretch. (although I can see him midseason possibly. He'd have to really go off this year to start bt 2018 and the sox have already said they're not rushing guys) Not those but Giolito, Lopez and Moncada should be. Those are the impact talents of the trades. If they aren't making significant contributions by the middle of 2018, they were bad trades. Remember the question was "will the Sox lose 100 games in 2018." If those three can't do that, the Sox have no hope beyond 2018 either. Kopech will not be ready until 2019 at the earliest. Who know about Diaz, Dunning and Basabe.

Hawk reducing games in 2017 - offers to step away from PBP after 2017
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 08:42 PM) Minus Quintana, Robertson. Cabrera and Frazier the team will easily lose over 100 games in 2018. Most of the players for which they traded should be up by then. 100 loses will mean the new players are bad, thus the trades will be awful deals.

Hawk reducing games in 2017 - offers to step away from PBP after 2017
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 08:33 PM) Hawk is not stupid. He realizes this is going to be a train wreck of a team for at least the next 2 seasons. It's not any fun being a announcer for a team thats going to lose 100 games a year for the next couple of seasons. If they lose 100 games in 2018 they will have have 2 awful trades with Sale and Eaton.
