  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 06:50 PM) Something changed. He seemed really happy with the situation at the end of last season. So either it is a health issue with himself or maybe his wife or someone, I am thinking maybe his eyesight, or something hit him. Maybe he realizes the team is going to suck and it won't be pretty for a few years. Whatever it is,I wish him well. +1 We'll have to get ready for the bland, professional with stories about numbers.
  2. Sounds like many of the posters on this board.
  3. QUOTE (Donaldo @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) He's not a very exciting interview, is he? I don't understand why he sounded so secretive when asked about some of the shenanigans going on (Giolito giving acting lessons, somebody dressing up as The Undertaker). Sounds to me like they're having fun and bonding as a team... that's a GOOD thing. Most of the questions he was asked were pretty inane IMO. The only players they asked about were Giolito and Lopez. A bad interview, but... it happens sometimes. It is a good thing but they are things that need to be kept in-house with the team. Who knows what is going to offend fans today. Most "hazing" is banned now and people could miscontrue what is happening.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) IF (and it's a big if) Kopech reaches his full potential, I think he'll be the best pitcher in baseball. His stuff is that good. Million dollar arm, ten cent head. Not that's necessarily the case here as I haven't heard that about him, but players talented than him have busted.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) That 110 mph pitch continues to be mischaracterized in the press. It was an underweight baseball, which is key to understanding how he hit that velo. People keep leaving that out. Not looking at you Gooch, I mean the author of this and other articles. Not only that but I believe it was during the goofy drill where they are allowed to fall roll roll for the follow through.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) Personally don't think it was that as much as Joba's substance abuse issues that derailed his career -- but the Yankees really didn't do him many favors his 2nd year jerking him around. Nice to see Yoan on top. No doubt. That's tough on a young player. I also agree that his lack of care of the body was probably the primary reason.
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 05:45 AM) So Lance Briggs apparently is battling CTE. Which is kind of weird because they can't tell if someone has it have it until they take the brain out and cut it open.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 08:37 PM) This is a gross oversimplification. What if he tears it up in the 1st half next year? The Sox would certainly move him for the right package. No one is going to give the Sox much for Saladino. He's a good utility player. If he tears it up for the first half, that's all it will be a good first half. Every team and system has these guys.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 05:54 PM) Dude, ptatc has an actual background in this profession. He's right that stress reactions are very unpredictable. I'm betting on the fact that they caught it early, but it's a shot in the dark either way.
  10. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) Which is why, if this is true, and it appears so, you wait until mid summer and re assess your options. There will be a lot more pressure relative to Hahn and the Sox, on any team looking to get better near the deadline then in March. I agree. I still think they should keep him. I don't think the other GM's will pay what he is worth but who knows one may get desperate come July.
  11. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 05:13 PM) JJ Stankevitz @JJStankevitz 13s #WhiteSox announce Charlie Tilson will begin the season on the disabled list. JJ Stankevitz @JJStankevitz now Tilson will be shut down for the next 3 weeks (no weight-bearing activities). Today's MRI again showed a stress reaction, no fracture... JJ Stankevitz @JJStankevitz now But there was a fair amount of inflammation present in Tilson's foot. Really, stress reaction AND inflammation, no way. Bone has no pain fibers, only the periosteum and the tissue around the bone. No inflammation, no pain.
  12. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 05:11 PM) It's 3 weeks and try again. The history of this type of injury indicates that setting any timetable is foolish. Season hasn't even started and you're already trolling, or just your usual failure to read between the lines I guess. This isn't a pulled hamstring with a predictable time frame for recovery. It's also the type of injury where the players gets the go ahead for full speed and games and then suddenly doesn't react so well to game speed and has to rest more. I'll go ahead and bet you that he doesn't play in an MLB game before June. Take that bet? If you want me to be charitable I'll even go June 15th. I'll bet he does, unless he injures something else.
  13. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 04:58 PM) Might be a fluke injury but it's a s***ty injury because it's hard to predict how his pain will be and how the bone will heal. There's no magic fix where you go in and do surgery it's basically just trying to get as much blood into the area as possible (I'm sure they do rehab with him on it daily) and hoping rest brings the pain down to tolerable levels. At this point I'd be surprised if he plays before July in MLB. He'll need at least 4 weeks on a rehab assignment. Just bad luck for the Sox and Tilson. There will not be a surgery for a stress fracture in the foot. They also will not lety him play with a tolerable pain level. for this it needs to heal painfree otherwise you will get to a surgical possibility.
  14. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) That was posted after Wright signed and before Wheaton signed. Bears did not sign 1 of the top 40 rated free agents, but they sure paid the guys like it. According to the earlier post there's a good reason for it. Everyone ran from the Bears like they are the plague (kind of accurate too)
  15. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) It's deep but are they willing to trade two of their top 5 guys to get a deal done? It doesn't appear so. This appears to be the case for all teams, which is why a deal isn't done with anyone.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) I don't doubt your knowledge of the injury, but he hasn't played a baseball game in over 7 months. If it's going to take a few more weeks, then he's not ready for a major league season. He needs to play AAA baseball to rehab, and if he's ready, then bring him back. It's not like he's an established major league player. You are referring to different situations. I'm only discussing about when he can't get back to unrestricted activities not where he will be playing. They may determine that once he is ready to go, it may be at the MLB level. I'm sure he is still doing hitting drills and probably facing live pitching. He just can't run and play the field right now.
  17. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) So does letting it rest for a couple months (as opposed to a few weeks) not decrease the chance of it happening again? Not really. With this type of injury, they test it to see how it reacts to stress. It really won't get "reinjured" with just the tests. It may take a few months but they will test it every few weeks regardless. They won't just let it rest for a couple of months. The worst thing you can do to bone injuries is to totally rest it, unless it is a displaced fracture of course.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 12:09 PM) Agreed with that. He hasn't played in so long...Tilson needs to go to the minors when he's ready and proven healthy, then bring him back. It's like he got into a tough-guy mode and pretended he was healthy enough, but clearly he isn't. No. There usual procedure is to try a 3 week rest to see if it's more the stress reaction vs. more severe type of stress fracture. That's why they tried to work him at 3 weeks or so. It was still sore so they will probably wait another 3-4 to see how it reacts. It's what the process is for this type of injury.
  19. QUOTE (Wanne @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 11:07 PM) I have a hard time seeing Colorado making any kind of huge moves like that at this point because a guy they just signed to a fairly large contract (for them) breaks his hand and will miss a few months... The length of time will depend on where the fracture is located. If it's in a metacarpal, he'll miss no more than 4 to 6 weeks. If it's in a darpal or wrist bone than it could be 8 to 12 weeks.
  20. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 04:11 PM) This post should be stickied. There has been one move in the last 45 years in the MLB. I'm not sure why this is even a discussion. No team in a market like Chicago is going to downgrade to a TV market like Las Vegas. What's market share between the cubs and Sox? Serious questions. Would they have a bigger share of just Las Vegas? They aren't going to move. Just an interesting question.
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 03:52 PM) Tilson back in a walking boot. Been 3 weeks and still having issues. Probably going to be shelved for at least 3 more now. Somewhere around 6-8 total if the 3 didn't help.
  22. Instead of focusing on the JR hate that people love, the more immediate focus should be on his comments about Q. He states again that people don't think he is an ace and they will not meet the asking price because RH is asking ace value for him. I'm still fibe with keeping him as a piece for the rebuild but the posters who aant to trade him should be worried about the return.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 12:23 PM) There's a ton of variables to this, but what if the Sox had a future lineup of: 1. Anderson (SS) 2. Moncada (2B) 3. Beer (1B) 4. Machado (3B) 5. Collins © 6. Abreu (DH) 7. Frazier/Rutherford (RF) 8. Robert (LF) 9. Mateo (CF) That would be insane. considering 2/3 of the lineup hasn't seen an MLB pitch, odds are it would be a poor lineup.
  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) We should have a forum for "Beating a Dead Horse Talk". I'm offended by that term. It should be called Dirt surfing equine Talk
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 04:29 PM) He was. I guess it worked though. But seriously, all of the pace of game things, batters should have to stay in the box if they take the pitch before. It's all mind games. As long as they allow it, some players will do it.
