White Sox News FA / Rumors / News
QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 05:47 PM) That's a stretch. He used a reporter's tweet (that's since been contradicted by other reports) on the market for Sale as his basis for the Sox incompetence. The reporter didn't say "Kenny Williams is more ego getting by on past performance than he is a modern baseball mind. The team didn't have a functioning Latin American operation for several years. Ownership constrained the team in hiring processes and in drafting domestically for several years." But you bring a good point, maybe Lip, and others, can just complain all the time like Eeyore so if the Sox incompetence is continued they can say "I was right" or "That's how it had been for years!" However, others want to have constructive conversation about pertinent happenings as opposed to rehashing the same stuff over and over again and diluting a new report to the White Sox being incompetent even if that report had no relevance to the White Sox incompetence. I see things haven't changed much while i was away for the semester. I'm sticking to only medical or mechanics issues from now on.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 11:22 PM) Ahhhhhh, so the bad guy isn't the one who initiates a blackmailing threat, but the one who gives into it. Got it, thanks for the clarification. That's business. Every owner has tried it, in every sport. So unless you are willing to admit ALL owners fall into your moral bankrupt...... category, you shouldn't single one out.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 11:20 PM) One World Series appearance in 36 years. The Royals have accomplished more in '14 and '15 than Reinsdorf has in nearly four decades trying his hand at this. Wrap yourself up in the glory of Reinsdorf taking you to the postseason 5 times over the last 36 years all you want. Show how low you choose to set the bar. And how many teams haven't? I guess your expectations are more than what 80% of all of the teams in baseball. The only teams that have been successful in your view are the Giants, Red Sox, Yankees, Arizona and Royals?

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 11:16 PM) Don't be flip. What transpired in the late 80s with the blackmailing of the state by Reinsdorf to secure him a lifetime of profits via taxpayer subsidies was a disgusting abuse of public policy by gullible politicians, but initiated by a morally bankrupt owner of our Sox. Reinsdorf is not a man any of us can be proud of based on what he blackmailed the state into with that stadium and lease deal. I would totally disagree with everything you say about JR here. ALL owners try this. Many succeed. If he was so different than all the owners why didn't he do the same thing with the Bulls/Hawks stadium. It was the politicians who give in to it that are the issue. I said before that you "hated" him and you said I was making too many assumptions. It sure sounds like you are headed in that direction though. I really dislike the fact that I seem to be defending the ownership even though I've said many times they haven't done a good job lately. I can't believe the revisionist history people (not just you) seem to portrait that the Sox have done nothing in the past 36 years. I just boggles my mind that people are so narrowly focused.

August 11th Game Thread: White Sox @ Royals
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 10:37 PM) Additional stat: Sox have now scored three runs or less in 54 of 114 games played. 47%. Doesn't matter who they bring in, doesn't matter what team they come from, a culture of losing has now gripped this organization. Nothing changes until major changes are made on the baseball side of the front office and in the philosophy of the organization. Mark This is an excellent point. What philosophical changes would you make?

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 11:09 PM) You're telling us! 36 years and running of rampant failure. Bring on the new, and soon! That World Series failure. The failure of 1983, the failure of the 90's....oh agony, oh agony. how can life go on.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) These other poor teams of which you speak oughta think about blackmailing the state in which they play to build them a new stadium. That way maybe as part of the blackmail operation they can also pressure their state politicians to engage in terrible public policy by also guaranteeing the teams annual healthy profit margins through taxpayer subsidies. This would allow them to join the coveted group the Sox are in who don't have to worry about such economic concerns. "Ridiculous myth" - Aha! So the owner isn't the worst part about the team, it's the gullible politicians that are at fault for the awful team the Sox have and the 36 years of futility.

2016 MLB catch all thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 08:34 AM) It's not a voluntary retirement though, doctors won't clear him to play. He's "medically disabled". Correct. But that's right now. He still hasn't gone through all of the rehab and recovery. They could easily clear him to play next year. If the doctors determine he is unable to play ever, even before his rehab/recovery, I would sue them if i was the team. Peyton Manning was cleared to play football with a similar surgical procedure. Not that all injuries and recoveries are identical but this is far too soon to make that determination.

Zack Burdi not coming to Chicago this season
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 10:54 PM) Sure...if they're actually ready to be promoted. Anderson is still hanging in there, but Fulmer has looked completely lost. That's not always a bad thing. Sometimes, especially with really cocky players, they need that. There are guys like Rodon who really have nothing else to prove in the minors as they pitched well there and they need to learn to get MLB hitters out. Rodon has command issues but with stuff. The minor hitters swung at that but the MLB hitters don't he needs to learn at the MLB. Fulmer was going to be in the pen due to the innings limit so why not try him against the MLB to see how he performs but also how he handles the situations. I'm not saying it's definitely the right move but I can see the reasoning behind it.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) Lol - first off, I don't "hate" anyone, so be careful throwing around such careless accusations. Second, this is the second time YOU have mentioned in this thread that the owner sucks. I mean, talk about an automatic post! I never said any such thing in this thread. I merely responded to someone earlier who was commenting about the lack of posts tonight not being because the team was ahead at the time, as was asserted, but rather because the owner and his management team have failed once again to put a product on the field that would compel enough people to have enough interest to come here and post. Very fair observation, I'm sure you would agree upon thinking about it again. you sure post like you very strongly dislike the handling of this team. does that more fit how you post about the owner. You really enjoy playing the semantics game. I've never said in any post the owner sucks. I've been saying the opposite. He has done many good things for the organization and baseball itself for that matter. Yes, you always respond that the owner is the issue.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 09:59 PM) One trip to the World Series in 36 years as owner for a large market team is not an impressive record by any measure, no matter how well the team performed in that one year. It's a heck of a lot better than many other teams.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 09:56 PM) If the Cubs actually win the World Series, that 2005 card will get harder and harder to play. It's not like anyone is going to games anymore because of something that happened 11 years ago. Why, you can still say it took them well over 100 years to do it. Be creative. Cub fans are fun to pick in.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 09:53 PM) Well he does, doesn't he? Have you seen White Sox baseball this past decade? Come to a different conclusion on the guy and let us know how you got to it. Be very interesting to see what you have to say on his record. I've replied many times. He has done many good things for the organization. That being said, i wouldn't mind a change as they haven't produced lately. However, your constant posts which continue to say the same thing, are getting as bad as greg's royals love. We get it you hate the owner. You will post to tear him apart. That's why I suggest you just have the "JR sucks" automatic post so you don't give yourself carpal tunnel posting the same thing over and over. However, if you feel you need to, go ahead just be careful mechanics when typing.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) "Business as usual" is because Sox management has failed once again to bring forth compelling, competitive baseball here in the middle of summer. Your beef about lack of posting is with Reinsdorf, Williams and Hahn, not the fans. As I said before. Just have a automatic post that says "JR sucks."

Zack Burdi not coming to Chicago this season
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 05:39 PM) Let's hope he is a better reliever than Poreda, Ring and Reed. At least Addison had "plus" value where he was selected. Some WAR magician will make him out to be a bargain if he's halfway decent, surely. Let's also hope he is more effective than Carson has been out of the pen or Hahn will look even more foolish since there's no compelling reason to push him at this point...that might have been the case were/with Robertson dealt at the deadline. It isn't necessarily the performance this year. Now that they are out of it, they can use the time to break in these players to the MLB. That way if they are in the race and need help you don't have a star struck kid that wets his pants for a few games and costs the team wins when they count. When you developing young players, it isn't always about the immediate performance. It's more about the long term progression of the player.

CPS Strike
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) For round number sakes, let's say she lives until she is 83. Without adjusting for COL increases, she will receive $2.4 million worth of pension payments (actually higher because of the COL adjustments). For that $2.4 million, because CPS had been picking up 7% of the 9% portion of her salary that goes toward a pension, she paid 2% of her salary each year toward that $2.4 million. This, in a nutshell, is why I have no sympathy for the CPS teachers threatening to strike. The only slight sympathy I have is that they want to make the teachers pay their portion of the pension (which they should) in too fast of a time period. Imagine your boss cutting your pay by 7%. It is not the teachers fault that the idiotic politicians decided to pay the teachers portion a long time ago. They should slow the process of cutting their pay.

Zack Burdi not coming to Chicago this season
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 08:09 PM) 100% agree. And I'd like to see Fulmer in AAA working as a starter as well. Let relievers like Albers continue to blow games and worry about fixing the pen in the offseason. This season is already a lost cause. He will hit his innings limit too soon and he will need to be shut down well before the season ends if he is in the rotation.

Zack Burdi not coming to Chicago this season
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) I'm still confused why they are rushing him? Are there any positives for the long term with him coming up for a month? Yes, if his stuff is consistent and he can get out minor league hitters what is he going to learn pitching to them? He may learn more trying to get out MLB hitters, especially when the season doesn't matter.

Zack Burdi not coming to Chicago this season
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 07:16 PM) I realize that Rick Hahn reached for Burdi to put in this year's pen, but even Rick Hahn has to admit that the season is over. He's a top 30 pick; you don't use that on relief pitchers, first try. Work him to start. I suppose Rick Hahn is getting him ready for next season's pen so he can howl at the moon and "go for it" again. A top 30 pick for the bullpen. That's really tough to do in the year they are drafted especially for a guy who was in the pen in college. He may follow the sale path where they think his stuff is good enough to get MLB hitters out now but he just needs to get stretched out in the off season over the next couple of years.
