True. Hopefully, they've cleaned up the approach and mechanics as it's been what? 4 years since he had it.

Don't need to worry about it with this kid. Been a starter his whole career.

Do they still take Griffin?

Most of it will depend on the strategy of the teams before them.

Hunter Harvey to Royals
That makes sense. Not so much the player but the slot money.

I would disagree. Take a prospect instead when you know the draft is weak. But maybe that's all they could get so it's acceptable.

Hunter Harvey to Royals
When you make the trade you get whatever value you can. It just seems like a poor focus to do right before the draft.

From what everyone is saying about the draft, this is not the draft to get extra picks.

Bowden eliminates Philly from Robert
So all teams other than Yankees and Dodgers are small market habitual losers. Looking at the records of all the teams besides those, it's pretty accurate.

Crochet wants an extension to pitch in the playoffs
Depending on who they bring up, I wouldn't be surprised. The ones they can't trade they will cut.

Bowden eliminates Philly from Robert
Why would the major league OF care about the minors? Other than taking his job most bmdont pay attention.

Sox to start managing Crochet’s workload
I would say they overused him in an entire season sense. He has held up to the workload well so its not a short term issue. However he is already double his previous season high. He is already at more innings than conventional philosophy would say he should go or at least close to the high end of it. They are just pushing it with adding more innings. It's not just this season but what he looks like next year. Most pitchers that pitch in the post season say they aren't the same the next year just from the extra time and innings with that.

Sox to start managing Crochet’s workload
I wouldn't. They are playing with fire already. Too much talent to take that chance.

Sox to start managing Crochet’s workload
True. That's why it's a dilemma. How to decrease the innings since he has so many but keep him ready for the post season. Is he more worth the a playoff team as a 1 inning closer or a one inning opener. If he stays with the Sox just do the 1 inning opener as results don't matter.

The Sox will never compete with the revenue of the Yankees and Dodgers. The Orioles had years where they were as bad as the Sox are. The Sox are grouped in the the rest of the league going through the times of up and down and trying to figure out how to get out of mediocrity.

I agree. They both have significant limitations from getting appropriate value. If they both stay healthy the rest if the way the value goes up. That is taking a chance with both though.

Sox to start managing Crochet’s workload
It very well be can easier on the arm for some pitchers. Some just don't naturally have that endurance to hold their velocity and stuff with multiple innings. Everyone is different. For some starting is easier for others it's shorter outing more often. Either one CAN work. They need to find out what works best for him. Because this role is new to him there is no track record. But the underlying principle is that he has to picltch many fewer innings.

Sox to start managing Crochet’s workload
This is the big question. Would a decrease in velocity indicate fatigue or that tissue is breaking down. He could be getting fatigued but working harder to compensate and causing long term issues. How much of a chance do they want to take that it's an injury happening not just fatigue.

White Sox vs Pirates July 12 game thread
The availability does decrease his value. It may be below what the Sox will take for him. This is the downside of pitching hom so many onnimgs in the season so far.

Sounds like they offered him something but he immediately rejected it so he probably is looking for something big or betting on himself for another year to get the big deal.

I agree with this. But that potential is enticing. That's why the Sox have done him somewhat of a disservice by allowing him to throw so many innings already. However it has also showed that he can be a really good starter.

Your premise is correct that Crochet should have a say. He has never been a starter and has never learned how to deal with a starters structure and load. He has no idea what he us doing. He is making it up just like the Sox are. He has physical limitations that he has no idea about how to quantify them. What is normal fatigue, what are normal aches? He could he doing long term damage to his body and he thinks it's normal because he's never experienced them.

Sox to start managing Crochet’s workload
I think crochet will value his health over his preference for the rest if this year. He has proven he can start and will be a starter next year. For the rest of this year he needs to decrease to bullpen level innings otherwise he won't have a next year.

Sox to start managing Crochet’s workload
I've already been wrong with how much they would pitch him so what do I know.

Sox to start managing Crochet’s workload
That will be a key. Do whatever they can to save him for the postseason. He can't have much left.
