  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 04:34 PM) Flapship ‏@TheFlapship RG3 has a partial-tear (sprain) of his ACL and LCL joints. #NFL #redskins Is there any info on if it was his previously reconstructed ACL?
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 04:35 PM) Here is the good NYT piece on it, which was much more thoroughly reported. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/17/sports/h...?pagewanted=all Note, that there was a local blogger that did a lot of work to keep this in the spotlight, has her name on the blog, and lives in the town taking all the heat. Takes a little more courage. This takes alot of courage in that situation. Take her out of the town before the carpet bombing begins. As a matter of fact let her push the button.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) My monday routine is gym then stocking up at marianos. The only plus now is that there are about 200% more women in yoga pants doing the same routine at the store. One nice thing was that Sports Authority had a 50% off sale on all "balls." They meant footballs, baseballs etc. However I was able to get weighted balls with handles for the home gym from 10-20 lbs for half off as well. I said, "technically they are balls.' The manager gave in and told me to "take my heavy balls home."
  4. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) I'm assuming they are recent findings by this hacker group 'Anonymous' that just came out and haven't been explored. I'm sure there's concerns with the legality of evidence obtained by this group also but to answer your question I really don't know. I do trust the information provided from that group though as they hacked and released the entire e-mail cache of the dude who runs the team fan site and what not and uncovered deleted tweets, instagram photos and whatever else. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out from a town wide perspective given the allegations at hand. The site really hurt it's credibility by bringing in all the other stuff. It really sounds like they have an axe to grind about certain people instead of just bringing out the facts. All that being said, I think they need to carpet bomb the town. It sounds like it's dirty from top to bottom.
  5. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) Just reading this link you get a feel for exactly what type of demented and f***ed up people live in this town. The sheriff is close friends with the head football coach, and: Further, The prosecuting attorney's son is one of the MEMBERS of the "Rape Gang": Details about how f***ed up the treatment of these football players is in general: How can all of the things about the Sheriff running a drug ring and bookie operation be known and nothing done about it?
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) Sox fans get tired of the organization saying "you can't spend a dollar when you only have 50 cents." It's not about payroll, its about performance and 1 playoff appearance in 7 years isn't good enough. They have a new GM in charge of building the team and spending the money. Isn't this a reason to be positive that the trend may change?
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 08:36 AM) Strasburg was completely healed. (And I don't agree with the Nats decision at all) RGIII was visibly still injured and was playing at about 70% of his capability, if that. The team obviously did not think he was 100% ready for the full workload otherwise they wouldn't have stopped his season. The whole point being that the Nats were concerned about the long term health of the player not the short term gain of having him play. The Redskins on the other hand were more concerned about the short term gain not his long term health and if he tore his ACL, they could pay for it.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 08:08 AM) You know better than I do though that the waiting period for this surgery is supposed to be for the swelling to go down. The range of motion is the key. It's difficult to get the motion after the surgery if they didn't have it going in. Interestingly enough the first real high profile athlete this was done with was Ozzie Guillen after he had that collision with Tim Raines. Up until that point it was common place to do the surgery as soon as possible. It was the case that brought the idea to mainstream sports medicine.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 08:02 AM) The drive the Redskins should have pulled him at was the one where he limped to the sidelines for an 8 yard scamper. Healthy he'd have turned that upfield for maybe 20 yards, maybe more. He followed that by a couple of poorly placed throws, IIRC, one of which went well over the receiver's head, which made me really start thinking he couldn't plant with the foot to throw accurately either. I mean, this guy threw for a 65% completion in the regular season and 52% yesterday. He couldn't help them by running and he couldn't throw the ball accurately. I have no issue with them starting him, but by that point, mid-3rd quarter, you have to say "The Seahawks are coming back in this game and no matter whether or not he got me here, I need someone who gives me a chance at points today". It's a ballsy move to take him out when he can still walk, I'll grant, but it was the move that gave the Skins the best chance to win. Especially in the long term. Short term gains sacrificing long term health is usually not a recipe for athletes, when it's a significant injury and player.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 08:02 AM) He was also examined by Dr. James Andrews on the sidelines. I cannot believe they wouldn't immobilize him if he was en route to surgery. He wouldn't go into surgery right away. There is usually a 1-3 week waiting period after the injury to allow the swelling to go down and to regain full ROM. The rehab will be easier and he would return to sport faster if this is done.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 12:05 PM) I've been following this disgusting case in the last few days after my wife told me about it. This is an incident that would probably get me the death sentence if this happened to my daughter since I'd likely murder these boys with my bare hands. How can parents allow this type of thing to go on. It said there were multiple parties to which she was taken. Every parent of every house where this occurred should be in jail as well.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 07:57 AM) I can't believe he'd have been walking around on the sidelines if he had a torn ACL. If nothing else I have to figure they'd immobilize it and be icing it, particularly in preparation for the surgery. This is true. However, it is more difficult to determine an ACL tear on a previously reconstructed knee. The tests aren't as accurate and it doesn't swell up the same. He probably didn't tear it because they let him walk around out there but I wouldn't totally rule it out either.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 07:44 AM) Not very well? He blew out his ACL once in college, and was very vague in his postgame comments on whether he thought he did it again. Research shows that braces are useless. They slide around too much to do any good. An ACL is entirely possible with that movement pattern.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 07:08 AM) The gif of RGIII's knee...... If there isnt damage in there that requires surgery I will be amazed. Wasn't the previous injury to the LCL? That's what I thought I heard. This injury is to the MCL or ACL. This video really shows how well braces work. If it's the MCL there will likely be no surgery as they only do those for last resort because they are difficult and don't do well. If it's the ACL....well those happen.
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) Strasburg was already completely healed, the situations aren't close to similar. Correct. They were worried about the extra stress on the arm and muscle strength being able to handle the stress. So in their minds he had not fully returned from injury. So it is similar. Most non-contact ACL injuries happened during deceleration activties (landing) not acceleration activities (jumping) so I still think it was probably the landing.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 08:51 PM) I thought the acl tore when he made the jump, which is why he freaked midair and got rid of the ball right away He may have, it looked to me that it was more likely when he landed. Either way it was from fatigue and the muscle couldn't handle the load.
  17. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 06:38 PM) Nick Friedell ‏@NickFriedell Rose's injury was a freak accident. RG3 was already hurt and was limping around all game. Shanahan deserves criticism that will come his way He's wrong that it was a freak injury. You had a fatigued player who tried to make a jump cut and his tired muscles couldn't keep him on balance. The ACL tore because he fell awkwardly.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 07:59 PM) Totally. A similar situation would be if Strasburg was only throwing 80 mph because of an elbow injury, but the Nats kept him on the mound because it's the playoffs. NFC games should be exciting next week. The AFC games, not so much. He was making the point the the Nats kept a player coming off an injury off the field when he was could play but was at risk for further injury. While the Redskins took a player coming off an injury c and played him when there was a risk of further injury and it happened.
  19. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 01:11 PM) There is VERY little difference between not being able to spend money and not spending money. I guess I'm in the minority here; I believe that an owner's primary responsibilty is to put the best possible team on the field that he can. Period. Being a minority owner, albeit the Chairman, he needs to answer to the rest of the board and the majority owners. Singling out Reinsdorf for all of the money matters isn't accurate. Sacrificing the long benefit for short term gains is not a good way to operste a baseball team. You need consistent winning to get to the playoffs regularly to have a chance. There are too many variables for success in baseball to sell out for a single season.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 10:31 AM) Lovie was a linebacker coach at Tampa when Tampa was bad to average. And St. Louis didn't win because of defense. He made them better, but they weren't winning because of defensive touchdowns. Not sure how his prior coaching is relevant. Anyone who objectively looks at some of the defense plays made over the course of Lovie's career has to chalk it up as luck. I'm sorry, but winning games with Mike Brown interceptions for touchdowns or Hester returns for touchdowns is fluky. I'm not saying Lovie shouldn't get credit - he's a great defensive coach who has had/drafted/coached up good defensive players. But the his winning percentage is probably 10-15 wins (or more) too high if you take away some of the lucky plays. Calvin Johnson's bogus non-TD call last year, the late TD interception against the Panthers this year, etc. When it happens on a consistent basis with Brown, Hester, and Tillman, it isn't luck. It's a mindset he instilled in the players on how to attack players. It's just unfortunate that he basically ignored the offense and always tried to make it too conservative. This is on him and is why he had to be fired. Reminds me of Buddy Ryan, a really good defensive mind but discounted the offense why too much. At least Lovie didn't attack his OC on the sidelines.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 10:28 AM) You would have to say at this point he's a lot closer to George than the elite QBs many thought he was destined to become. Maybe the new system will make him an MVP candidate. It's happened before, but up until now, he's pretty much been a dissappointment. Agreed. That's why I said he hasn't shown it yet. However, he has had many different systems in which to win and hasn't shown it.
  22. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) Hahn and KW are probably polar opposites when it comes to patience. KW could never wait to get his chips in the pot. We're used to having more offseason activity by now. Hahn is more conservative and can hold out in attempt to get what he wants. Hahn's best skill as assistant GM has been in contract negotiations, so that should translate well when he makes his first trade. Not if you remember Ron Schueler. This would have been a blistering off season for him.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) Cutler's won a lot more than George has. Other things of note: Cutler's more accurate, but tends to throw more picks. In overall numbers but it's like Lovie Smith. and Marty Schottenheimer, good in the regular season but nothing to show for it. Neither QB really ever went anywhere. Maybe it's more leadership than physical gifts for both. Cutler still has time but he hasn't shown much yet.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 08:51 AM) Haugh asks the question that hasn't been asked in a couple of years...is Cutler the next Jeff George? I hadn't though of that. Very similar personalities. Physically talented QBs who can't seem to win enough. Instead of swithing teams so often, Cutler has switched offensive coordinators, he still has time though. So far, I think it is a good comparison.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 08:07 AM) The Royals signed Chad Tracy, Mark's older brother, and not the one who played for the Nationals. Mark will still be a stiff in the White Sox organization for a little while. KW Jr. got over a half a million in signing bonus. Nepotism is a beautiful thing if you are the one getting taken care of. Welcome to Chicago.
