Whan garcia finished that 7th inning and was due to lead off the 8th, I looked at my dad and told him that Harris would pinch hit. I'm glad Ozzie heard me.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) I prefer the Drudge Retort, but yeah I check out the other one sometimes as well. The divergent poll conclusions are all over the place the last couple of days. I'm sure Drudge will have links to both the stories that show a bump and also those that don't pretty soon. That kind of sounds like MSNBC removing that poll about the death penalty after 72% voted in favor of it.

Damn tree huggers want to undercut our military and let the Katrina victims freeze. Ain't politics grand?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) Sorry man, sometimes I like to post things that fit in with a topic which haven't yet been confirmed just to see where the story leads. When I do that, I usually don't comment on things at all myself. That's all I was trying to do on that one, just posting it so that people could see where a story might be heading. My post wasn't inspired by this one instance. I don't mean this as criticism of you but more along the lines of friendly advice. I think, from my point of view, the "Cry Wolf" comment fits what I'm trying to say.

Oh Hell Steff, I don't want to hear it. I remember black and white TV! You think you had it rough? Sheeesh!

QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) good post. Agreed on everything i suppose, im sorry, maybe i did get a bit homer-ish, just doesnt seem like a huge upgrade from crede to blalock, mayb thats due to the downyear and such. "Downyear" is a key "word" Blalock has shown in the past that his capable of having good years. He had an off year last year. He's not on the decline at age 25. If he gets away from Texas and goes back to his George Brett-like approach, he can be a legitimate stud. This could be a case of buying low, and selling high (Garland), though I also expect Garland to keep getting better.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) I don't remember there being houses there. Am I wrong? I remember a bar (McCuddy's?), but can't picture houses. I miss the search function. Is it coming back? You may be right. I don't have a clue.

When Jarod Washburn signs a 4 year deal that averages over $9M per and he's only won more than 11 games one time, you know the price of pitching is at a premium.

Yes, Willie definitely wrote his own ticket out of town. I would have liked to see us hold on to him, from a baseball perspective, but if KW had problems with his attitude, well, See Ya! I think we all knew Timo was history. JoBo probably is gone too, but I like the idea of giving him a shot to make it as a bench player.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 07:18 AM) If you can hang your hat on a sample size of 1 then you have a bright future as a tobacco lawyer. You are less likely to be shot in an armed robbery if you give up your money or your stuff and don't fight the guy with a loaded gun pointed at you and your family. I'm just pointing that out because things do happen. There are bad mofo's out there, and this guy's kid had a gun pointed to his head.

The Royals have also made an offer to Jacque Jones: What this also means is the Hendry might let himself get outbid by the Royals. To all those that are always battling with Cub fans ... you're welcome.

Kyle Orton out for the season.....

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 05:27 AM) And yet Matt Millen still has a job. Gotta feel sorry for those Lions fans. For some reason, I just can't quite bring myself to feel sorry for them. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) Small update: If you wouldn't cry "Wolf" at everything that can possibly be twisted to make Bush look bad, I'd be inclined to give some of posts more merit and actually read them in there entirety instead instead of dismissing them as more political rhetoric. There are times when my mind can be changed and I do try and step back and see both sides of the issues, But, when someone ALWAYS is slinging s***, I just duck and get out of the way.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) That seems an odd bit of logic. These two guys were going to kill 4 people so they could steal some audio equipment. Does every mugger not wearing a mask invariably kill his victims? Tookie Williams killed 3 people for $100.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Black jacket, eyes, few inches of face. That narrows it down to only one person. Rethink the career, Jas. This one.

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) this has to be the stupidest trade, a team trying to rebuid is now getting older They gave up a .250 class A hitter. They was robbed!

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 02:23 AM) Im just going to say this and keep it simple. Anyone who would rather have Crede than Blalock is a homer. Im not even that big of a Blalock fan either.....more of a Tex fan. But Blalock sucks away from home against lefties in the 2nd half! Howw the hell can you say that? People ... do you ever watch baseball or just read obscure stats? If you can't see that over the long haul Blalock is a superior all around ballplayer than Crede, then I don't think you are actually watching. Blalock also has more of a upside to him. I like Joe Cerede. I like him a lot. He's a good ballplayer that is, I believe, just beginning to come into his own as a force on the ballfield. I still think Blalock is the better of the two.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 01:57 AM) No, but if we start trading them away in the offseason before their last season, it just seems like we're going to be hurting our MLB team that season. I'm a much bigger fan of just playing with your players, and if you're doing well, try to win the whole f'n thing. If your season isn't going well, then trade the player for prospects. However, don't keep using the prospects as chips to trade for high-priced players. The reason for that is that those players are going to be in the same situations that Garland and Contreras are currently in, so we're just as likely to start trading them if they don't want to sign extensions. BTW, this really isn't that big of a deal right now. I think we'll eventually get Contreras signed to a 2 year deal with a player option, but there wasn't a chance in hell that Contreras and his agent agreed to the first proposal. We'll see what happens, but I think they have to move at least one of these guys if they can't sign them.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) I'm not really happy with what looks to be the organization's theory of: if you don't want to sign an extension, then YOU GONE! Between that and KW's willingness to trade our highest rated prospects, our payroll's going to have to get bigger and bigger to afford extending guys. So we should just let them walk?

Sharing this past season with Soxtalkers has made it a much more enjoyable experience. Instead of being stuck on my own little "White Sox island" here in western KY, I was able to share the ups and downs of the season, and the exhilarating joy of the WS victory with other rabid Sox fans. On a side note. I walked into the local Best Buy this morning wearing my Sox Championship hoodie to look at some TV's. The salesman came over, of course, and started talking about TV's until he saw the sweatshirt. He pointed at it and said, "Can you believe that?" He told me he is a lifelong Sox fan who grew up on the southside. He said that his grandfather lived in a house located where 3rd base at the Cell now is. We talked about "it" finally happening and all the offseason moves made so far. It was a rare, for me, and enjoyable experience. Happy holidays to all.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 01:33 AM) If KW can't bring back either Contreras or Garland, then the Vazquez trade was a disaster. The Vazquez trade was insurance in the case that happens. How is covering your ass "a disaster"?

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) A.J. has quickly become one of my favorites after I loathed him when he played for the Twins. This is great news. Captain Chaos Reigns! A. J. on the Twins equals Dino Cicarelli on the old Minnesota North Stars. Hated him, but knew I'd love him if we had him. I said that about both players while they were in Minnesota.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) All-Star selections will always carry wheight in people's minds because the All-Star game means something to a lot of people. IMO, All-Star selections don't mean a whole hell of a lot but that's just because I disagree with a lot of the selections. Most people tend to agree with the selections. He may be better than Crede but the trade rumors are not Crede for Blalock which would be a no doubter. The rumors are Garland and Crede for Blalock and Wilkerson/a spect (not Danks or Diamond). I'm not so sure that's a slam dunk. Not so sure that's a slam dunk, seems to indicate to me that it is very close to fair market value.
