QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) I think you are completely dissing the momentum shift if they were to win today. They have Wakefield vs Garcia in Boston & Schilling vs Garland in Boston. Their starters only need to pitch as good as 7IP/4R for Boston to have a chance to win the next 3. Our starters need to pitch as good as 7IP/3R. On the flip side if we win today .. that kind of momentum behind Garcia & this club is very capable of producing a sweep against Wakefield. Not at all. I know the mo shifts back to the BoSox if they win. I just believe our pitching is good enough to overcome it.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) You people who are so cocky will be best served by not commenting. I don't CARE that Boston doesn't have the pitching. IMO, yesterday's game makes them even MORE dangerous. This is kind of like wounding the tiger. The tiger comes back at you even more pissed off. David Wells is a fatass, but he's a very smart fat ass. Don't count these guys out yet. You NEVER underestimate your opponent in the playoffs until the series is over. THEN you underestimate them while you're celebrating. PERIOD. Any other mindset, write down some tee times for next week. Your reference to the pitching staff comparison makes me think my post is the one that rankled you. That was an expressed opinion based on years of watching this game, it's not ... make that "NOT" ... an expression of cockiness. I'm very aware of the quality of the Red Sox as a team and in no way do I think we have this wrapped up. I like our chances, but .... Ya know what I mean?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) This will be the game to decide the series. If you look at Wells down the stretch he's given up mostly 3 runs over 7 innings. I would expect him to do at least that today. He's a gamer so he's capable of pitching a gem as well. In general we have matched up well against LHers & when you consider the LHers in the ALC that's saying a LOT. vs LHers: 1382AB, 202R, 55HR, 64D, 7T, 271A/782O vs RHers: 4114AB, 536R, 145HR, 189D, 15T, 260A/736O If Mark produces a QS today the White Sox should win. If he doesn't the series will be tied 1-1. Best to put the 14-2 game behind & get back to thinking of this series as a dog fight. I disagree. Even if we lose this game I like our chances. I like our pitching match ups the rest of the way out. Our bullpen is also much stronger than theirs.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 04:49 AM) Lucky for us we hit lefties better then righties. And you're right YAS, Boston needs to win this game more than us. I can't see them coming back with the other pitching they've got from a 0-2 deficit, but I'm definitely not going to write them off here and now. Just like I didn't feel we had the Central wrapped up with a 15 game lead in August, I don't feel like we'll have this series won until we get out number 27 in win 3.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) They have to do whatever they can to keep Frank in a Sox uniform. Agreed.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 03:53 AM) Point taken. But Jose is a much different pitcher than when Boston was shelling him as a Yankee. Wakefield is pretty much the same Wakefield he's always been. But like I said, I see your point. The Sox don't have all the mashers they had throughout most of Wakefield's career. Having said that, his knuckler is most effective in hot, humid weather. Boston's supposed to have a high of about 55 on Friday.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) Wakefield is 5-10 with an era over 8 against the white sox in his career. I have two words that will render this point moot. Jose Contreras.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) Probably won't be seeing much of me during the playoffs. Sorry Soxtalk, but ya'll take a backseat to post-season baseball. I just can't jeopardize missing a single pitch. That said, what an amazing, tone-setting preformance. Words can't describe how important a demoralizing defeat like that is. If our Sox come to play tomorrow we could be looking at two straight... ...shhhhhhhhhh, don't say it. The same with me. I'm not going to be distracted by any computer. And NO! Don't say it!

QUOTE(pierard @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) I have been stalking this board forever....from the Tub Of Goo posts, the in and outs of the past few years, and finally to now a playoff winner! Go Sox, and thanks guys for all the great fuel for my arguments with my cubbie fan friends. Welcome to Soxtalk.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 01:51 AM) You would think reading their writers and listening to their fans that the Red Sox didn't just win the WS last year, but the last three or four years straight - as if all those whippings at the hands of the yankees never happened, all those crushing defeats a mirage, all those collapses (including this season's loss of the division in the last two weeks) a mere fable. What a f***ing joke. Like ScottyDo said, I like how he tried to take digs at the city while trying to seem emotionally detatched. A real sports writer would realize that the lack of starting pitching - especially in a short series - is serious cause for concern, not smug potshots and baseless boasting. Pinning your hopes on an overweight 42 year-old so past his prime that he can't even see it in his rearview mirror is the real fantasy here. You are underestimating David Wells. He's still a solid, crafty, post season experienced lefty. In my opinion, this is Boston's best pitching matchup in the series. They lose this one, they are in real trouble.

QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 05:41 AM) dam, at first i was . then going through the trade, that aint dam bad. let me get this straight A first round, and 2 second round picks?? All that? + salary room next year? id take that thx curry. From what I understand, that 1st rounder is conditional ... in the Bulls favor. If the Knicks finish with a top 5 record, the pick gets pushed back to '07.

If he does, in fact, turn out to be dirty then prosecute his crooked ass to the fullest extent of the law.

I really thought the combo of Trammell, Gibson and Parrish would turn that franchise around. I believe they are giving up on these guys one year too soon. Trammell wasn't the one who signed half of Magglio Ordonez or zero percent of Troy Percival. I think the Tigers are screwing up here, but again, that's so typical.

Bump. I want to keep this near the top.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) I was hoping for success for the Cubs. In my dream scenario they would be 1 out away from the WS and have it all collapse. This was close enough. What are you trying to do, set us up for that kind of heartbreak? Talk about tempting the baseball gods. :headshake

Kelly was definitely a good ballplayer. RIP Pat, and thanks for the memories.

I hope this isn't Frank's last appearance as a member of the White Sox. I'm sure he'll get a lot of love from the fans. Oh ... Frank will get a full share as it's a rule because he was on the DL.

QUOTE(letsgoarow @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 10:54 AM) Peter "boston" Gammons has picket the white sox to win the serires against his beloved red sox......that has to be a good sign. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2005...s?series=boschw That f***in' sucks. Gammons is always wrong.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) This is a horrible playoffs for Cubs fans... The White Sox, Astros, and Cardinals are all in it... LMFAO! And they finished in 4th place! Gotta love it!
