QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) Cutting voters taxes and going into debt is a great way to get elected. Why not cut taxes and spending? Because our leaders want to buy us stuff with our money. One thing I always respected about the GOP was fiscal responsibility. Now they are the leaders in deficit spending and the DEMs are right there at the trough as well. FREE LUNCH! FREE LUNCH! Elect us and others down the road will pay your taxes and interets. FREE LUNCH! Eventually we have to pay all this back, with interest. Our leaders avoid that issue and try and convince us that someone else is going to pay it back. I don't mind cutting taxes, but you have to cut spending also. Come back to us after trimming the budget and give us the surplus. Don't borrow money from China, and give it to me, and try to convince me it's a free lunch. The ONLY one that's ever had the balls to say this while running for president is Ross Perot.

Is there anything about giant squid mentioned in the bible? If not, they don't exist.

For the record, clinching a wild card tie is clinching nothing.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 04:01 AM) What are you talking about? Magglio has a pretty good arm too. Not as good as Dye but he had a lot more range than Dye in the field too. Aaron Roward disagrees with you. He has stated that both corner outfielders cover more ground than last year's pair.

Dye didn't choke Thursday night. He failed. There's a difference.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) You're right! I apologize for labeling you like that. It's been one of the most exciting yet frustrating years of Sox baseball that I can remember. I always go back to the Great Pennant race of '67 when the Sox went into the final 5 games with the best chance of winning and blew it. The played KC and Washington both who were puffs and we lost. I am thinking we will win this thing. Why oh why, of all times, did you have to remind my of the heartbreak of 1967?

Well, I don't live in Chicago. But, I used too. It all depends on how YOU approach things. If you are arrogant and confrontational, you'll be met with similar attitudes. If a Cub fan comes up to you being arrogant and confrontational, you can diffuse the situation by making light of it. Before I moved from the area (in '76) I went along with a buddy of mine as he ran his route delivering bread to area groceries. His route was on the north side. Of course, I wore my Sox hat. I had a f***in' blast! There was plenty of playful jabs thrown throughout the course of the day, but it was all good. There were also a LOT of laughs and handshakes that day. Sometimes, there are asshole Sox fans as well as asshole Cub fans.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 10:05 AM) Those guys have pitched their asses off this year, despite their recent struggles. I'd still take our rotation and like our chances with those 4 guys over any of the other AL playoff probables. But Beck, tagging our pitchers with feminine names is so clever

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) Talk to your manager about it, and not to the press. The media has enough to write about in regards to the collapse. This is just another story to add to the free-fall. Ozzie has shown more than enough patience with his veterans. He's given Everett every chance to contribute in the 3rd hole. Exactly! Which is where 'STFU' applies most fittingly in this case.

Hypothetical situation: You are a devout Christian and you believe homosexuality goes against God's law. You also want to raise your children as Christians and do not want them exposed to "un-Christian" lifestyles. Therefore, you pay a substantial tuition to send those children to a Christian school. You are also within your rights to do so. If, the administrators of this particular school knew about the lesbian relationship of this students parent and did nothing, then they running the risk of offending and losing their entire clientelle. This particular student is not going to be denied an education. There is always public school. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. However, these are some of the things that have to be taken into consideration. There are two perspectives from which to look at this.

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat and was for distribution of all wealth. She felt deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican which she expressed openly. One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and more welfare programs. In the middle of her heartfelt diatribe based upon the lectures she had from her far left professors at her school, he stopped her and asked her pointblank, how she was doing in school. She answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA and let him know that it was tough to maintain. That she had to study all the time, never had time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of spending all her time studying. That she was taking a more difficult curriculum. Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Mary?" She replied, "Mary is just getting by," she continued, "all she has is barely a 2.0 GPA," adding, "and all she takes are easy classes and she never studies." But to explain further she continued emotionally, "But Mary is so very popular on campus; college for her is a blast, she goes to all the parties all the time and very often doesn't even show up for classes because she is too hung over." Her father then asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your 4.0 GPA and give it to her friend who only had a 2.0?" He continued, "That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair, equal distribution of GPA." The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I worked really hard for mine, I did without and Mary has done little or nothing; she played while I worked real hard!" Her father slowly smiled and said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

QUOTE(winodj @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) My predictions are only good from the moment the game ends until the first pitch of the next game. Thank you. Are you planning on running for office someday?

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) After a lot of thinking, I think we will win this division when it is all said and done. We have played our worst baseball and the Injuns have played their best. The Injuns will trip soon .....and we will get back to what we were doing We are STILL leading this division. It may take us to win the last series at Cleveland, but I think we get it done. GO SOX ..... AND YES CLEVELAND SUCKS Cleveland has won 16 of 18 games. I'd be happy if they just stumbled a little bit.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 01:36 AM) Yeah Dye's been at 6 for the majority of the year, yet he's been in our top hitters probabaly after the bad start. He only has about 80K's as well, so he's not doing badly on that regard. Dye started coming out of his early season funk when Ozzie moved him to the #6 spot. Ozzie's been reluctant to move him from that spot ever since.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) Thank God Kenny didn't trade Jose. I know we shouldn't look ahead to the playoffs but if the Sox do make it i would line him up at the #2 spot behind Buehrle and ahead of Garland. The reason being is that you would give the opposing team three different looks. You got Buehrle who is a Greg Maddux type pitcher, Contreras will throw the ball by you, and Garland is a sinkerball pitcher who can throw in the low to mid 90's. The way the rotation is currently set up, JC is in line to start game 1.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) Thanks Yas. I didn't put in the detail 2x4s to strengthen the plywood covering and creating a place to screw to. It is sooo much faster and easier than cutting to fit. I only worry about the posts pulling out of the ground. But I figure by then I have bigger problems than that. Is there a best angle for the brace? I was about at a 45 degree. My house is brick and I have a couple great rooms away from the wind, and without really big windows for riding the storm out. We're sitting here wondering what it's going to do like everyone else. The last one hooked south and missed us, but that one was coming from the south, not the east. The longer the high pressure ridge stays intact, the worse for me. I haven't seen Jim Cantori yet, so I guess we're going to be fine. 45 degrees should be fine. Suggestion. Nail the angle brace to the plywood, then let the other end rest on the ground. Drive your stake at an angle that puts pressure on the brace and snugs the plywood up to your building, then tack the brace in place with a nail or two so the wind (and flopping plywood) doesn't work the brace up the slightly angled stake.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Folks have been swearing up and down they've seen Bigfoot for just as long. I've never seen Bigfoot, but I've seen plenty of Bigmouths spewing liberal crap on national news broadcasts over the years.
