  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) Actually, there was an article about how BMAC is a big time complainer. I believe it was in the trib Man, I've got to see a link before I believe that. I have read nothing of the kind about BMac.
  2. Peirzynski is a gamer. He's as important to the success of the Sox as Varitek is to the Red Sox. When he was with the Twins, I hated the guy. But, when word filtered out that we might sign him I was 100% for it. I have not been disappointed by his performance in any way. You Blackhawk fans may remember a guy that I corralate with AJ in the fact that I hated the guy, but I knew I love him if he ever played for the Hawks. Unfortunately, he never did but was thorn in their sides for years. Another guy that played in Minnesota ... Dino Ciccarelli.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) I actually agree with you here that you can't blame the Wild Pitches on AJ as much as you can Jose's forkball, but I do have to disagree with you when you present it as that simple. If a pitcher throws a pitch in the dirt, but the catcher is out of position on it and it goes to the backstop, it will be a wild pitch. Why? Because it was in the dirt. That doesn't in any way mean that the catcher shouldn't have caught the thing. A passed ball happens when a pitcher throws a ball that is well within the reach of the catcher and there's no remote excuse for him not catching it...and the catcher misses it anyway. In other words, if the ball going to the backstop has any component at all of fault going to the pitcher, it will be a wild pitch. A truly great catcher at stopping pitches will prevent a huge number of wild pitches just because he keeps the ball in front of him. That doesn't mean that if the ball had gotten past the catcher, it would have been scored a passed ball. As long as you are talking baseball and not politics, we are generally in agreement.
  4. Some more input on the Marte thing from Barry Rozner:
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 05:15 AM) Well considering he was the 4th overall pick im guessing a lot of people did. Oh, I'm sure you are correct on that. Though, the general public didn't follow the draft as closely back then as they do today.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) I bet not 1 person here liked the Tillman pick. He took some guy noone had ever heard of from some little college (LA Laffayette) and everyone was pissed. I heard an interview with Tillman the night of the draft and liked him from then on but when the pick was made I was pretty confused. I remember another guy they selected from a little college ... Walter Payton. At the time, I didn't have a clue who this guy was.

    Bonds

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Bonds is the greatest baseball player of all time. Period. Mantle, Mays, Clemente and F. Robinson were all better all around baseball players thans Bonds. That is limited to guys that I have seen play and off the top of my head. I am also limiting it to just outfielders.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:15 AM) I read through ^^ three times and still can hardly comprehend how you came to the conclusion you did. If Garcia started game 1 and lost how would things look any more bleak than if Buehrle and Garland started games 1 & 2 and lost and then Garcia started game 3??? I'm kinda hoping for a Garcia, Buehrle, Garland rotation. Because IMO that goes from least likely to implode in a playoff start to most likely not look too good. Simply due to the fact that Garcia is a road warrior. I'm thinking that we'll probably get one of the games MB & JG pitch at home, then with FG starting game 3 on the road, I like our chances. I might even consider a Buehrle, Contreras, Garcia, Garland line up, assuming we open at home.
  9. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) truth is, no one really knows the full story so all of this isn't going to solve anything. this is the life of a fan. Fortunately, no one around here would jump to conclusions like they know exactly what is going on and exactly what should have and shouldn't have been done.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) Irony. The guy who now screams about every little thing, using a minute detail to get around the owner of the sites wishes. What's really ironic about it, was that he was totally wrong.
  11. I'd ban you myself for that remark if I had the authority.
  12. I have to go with Buehrle at this point in time. But, if he doesn't come out of his funk, I'd have to look elsewhere as the time approached. I believe Mark will be ok though.
  13. Ozzie has to be the worst manager in baseball. What's he done besides take a team that was picked to finish in 4th place and lead them to the best record in AL? Nothing! :headshake
  14. Another game off the schedule. One day closer to clinching.

    Hurricane Katrina

winodj, it was widely reported that New Orleans had "dodged the bullet" after Katrina passed through. Gulfport was devastated by the storm, as were other locals along the coast. Bush was specifically talking about NOLA and the levee situation. The way you present the Bush quotes on NOLA, followed by all those headlines is simply a case of misleading spin.
  16. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) well Scottie Stevens said that the year away from the game made him realize he didnt want to take anymore punishment and spend more time with his family. If you already have the Fame, glory, money - what incentive is there to return? just a thought Same thought Barry Sanders had a while back.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 04:24 AM) Too bad we get to face Mike Wood tomorrow who's actually been pretty good lately, but long - term he projects to be nothing more than a 4th starter. Either he's a gutsy pitcher that really knows how to work out of jams, or he's been playing with fire and hasn't gotten burned lately. I'm betting on the latter.
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) SBs are not always a great tool to determine speed. True, but Karko could run fairly well.
  19. If early season weather is a problem, they could schedule two teams immediately after the AS break, then two off days after the series for travel. Wouldn't be all that difficult.
  20. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 10:03 AM) Ozzie needs to leave town to get away from the City of Chicago??? Doesn't the entire team leave for a week tomorrow? Who are these folks beating him down, the (softball question) reporters? Do the fans get to sit down and chat with him? Who is he getting away from??? Sounds like the 2004 cubs if you ask me now we just need to get rid of some broadcasters. I was fine with the state of affairs until I realized (I saw no baseball all weekend, Sox included until last night) that a Twins starter did not make it through the 5th??? Sanatana was beat? Maybe the schedule is not as favorable. We need to hit, it is that simple and we need to change up a couple of things. This is where the manager needs to see what he has and go from there. This is where Ozzie needs to lead, and he is off to Miami.......maybe he will chat with Nick Saben, remember him a leader the Bears could not use. I gotta get away from the city of Chicago. I can relate. I had to get away from Soxtalk for a few days.
  21. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 03:43 AM) I would've agreed with this a month ago. But if Buehrle and Garland keep struggling? Buehrle and Garland carried this team a long way. You've got to stick with them. If Garcia loses game one at home, then we have to come back with Buehrle and Garland as they are pitching now, things would look bleak. I'll take my chances with Mark and Jon, then Freddie in game 3.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 03:26 AM) Here we go; We want FG starting the first ROAD game. Period.
  23. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 02:36 AM) What you are talking about. I never bashed jason and i never claimed to have all the answers. I simply said everett and huff are not good options to bat third. If you or others cannot see that for yourselves i do not know what to tell you. Please show me where i said i have an almighty plan for the off-season at this point? When i have something to say i say it... i don't play games and leave people in ''suspense''. I am not understanding you tonight... because i clearly said nothing out of line. I never accused you of bashing anyone. You did criticize their ideas, yet never presented one of your own. Maybe I jumped on you a bit prematurely here, even though my original request was just to start a topic of conversation. It sure seemed like you were avoiding the question. But hell, that's also your perrogative.
  24. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 02:16 AM) Was answered in another thread... and i believe i said i am not really sure what the sox should do at this point. BUT huff is not a good option and either is everett. Which is very, very truthful. Sub .800 ops for three hole hitter is ridiculous. Way to stick your neck out there qwerty. I'm impressed. :headshake
  25. I don't think he's over reacting at all. Now, excuse me, there's this ant hill in my back yard that I have to go nuke.
