QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) Are you talking about Everett half-assing it in the 9th? Nope.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) They do that to almost everyone...that's why they're the best offense in baseball. They're hard as hell to get out. But when guys see 8+ pitches from you, and you still retire them and keep the team shut out...that's a hell of an accomplishment. That's for sure. I was more impressed by this performance than the one over Texas.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) Ok...which one you mean? There were a couple...Uribe caught off second...Pods caught off first, the error by Blum, the error by Iguchi...? The errors aren't bonehead. That's just physical misplays. The pick offs were mentioned. So, nope, you didn't get it.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) BMac lost his changeup earlier this year. He wasn't throwing it. And he was getting hammered. He had all 3 pitches working today...good location on the fastball...a good curve, and a change that he was throwing for strikes. He puts those 3 out there, he can beat anyone. Now...just wait until next year...when they teach him to throw another pitch, and maybe he adds another few mph to his fastball. This kid is going to be incredible. And you know the thing I really loved about his performance today? He was getting the ball, getting the call, and throwing it. No delays. He didn't take time to think...it did take him a lot of pitches because the BoSox are a very good hitting team...but he was getting the ball and throwing it. I think we all know where he learned that. Get him out there, throw strikes, work quickly, and change speeds. That's Mark's formula...and Mark doesn't have the arm this kid has. You comment on the pitch counts was right on. The BoSox had several quality AB's where they were fighting off a lot of good pitches.

Great game by BMac today. But, I want to know if anyone caught the real bonehead play made by the Sox that wasn't even mentioned in this thread.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) Okay, even I didn't see back-to-back outings completely shutting down Texas in Texas (when they had creamed Buehrle, Garland, and El Duque) and then Boston in Boston. (Do you think any other pitcher on our roster could have done that?) Anyone still think we should have traded McCarthy? Hell, there were several around here that thought we never should have called him back up. Strange thing, but I haven't been hearing much of that lately.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) That's why they call it an insurance policy, some people for some reason can not grasp this concept. Some people just want something to b**** about.

QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) They might carry 11 cause of the worry of Hermy's back probs.. Very good point.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) If i'm KW i'm seriously considering leaving El Duque off the playoff roster... Make him like the Count's personal pitching coach or something... Seriously if BMAC keeps this up Orlando will be out of a job next year... Ohh and to whoever thinks that we should keep El Duque instead of Count.... Why on earth wouldn't you want to keep the guy who's stayed healthy... at least you know with El Duque that theres always a willing trade partner in the Yankees for him... Besides that Count has the stuff to dominate teams, El Duque has to rely on his brains but even then the stuff sometimes just isn't there to back him up... BMAC.... YES!!!! You are forgetting one big thing, Jeckle. That's post-season experience and DuQue's knack for stepping up in big games. Ok, that's two things, but I put less importance on that big game thing. BMac has been totally awesome, but I just don't know about sending a 22 year old rookie out there with the whole season on the line. I'd have to think long and hard about that move.

QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) Unless they carry 12 pitchers, someone draws the short straw here. They won't carry 12 pitchers. No more than 11, and maybe only 10.

BMAC!!! Way to go, big guy!

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) Underachieving starter in the eyes of those who expected big things out of him right away. Remember there were some people calling McCarthy a bust after he struggled earlier in the year, way too many posters have Knee-jerk reactions when it comes to players. I bold printed the key word in your post. That happens way too often.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) But that lame idea evaporated the day they sent Gload down when Everett pulled his groin. Adkins didn't even "eat" any innings until his last game, after a month of losses when it was pretty clear from day 1 we needed an extra bat. Face it, it was the wrong decision, and it probably cost us a couple of games. Thankfully we had a 15 game lead at one point. The thing about this is that he was available if he was needed. It just so happens that he wasn't. If a situation occured, it could have put the bullpen in bad shape without Adkins around. So no, that idea was not lame.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) David Terrell was cut by the Patriots. First round draft pick let go by two teams. That should get his attention, but I doubt it will.

QUOTE(mannyfast @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Here's another story on Chuck from the Birmingham News. He is getting a lot of press time which is cool... http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/in...2710.xml&coll=2 From the story linked above: Charlie Hough.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) Reportedly the MLBPA is going to challenge Ponson's release. You had to know that was coming.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) Larry, I hope you don't mind but I passed it on to an old friend of mine from college. It doesn't necessarily fit Joan's voice, but she may have an idea or two. Joan "not my maiden name" Hammel I don't mind at all. Keep me posted if anything happens.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 12:18 AM) Ross Gload's defense sucks? I have officially heard it f***ing all. :headshake But, he made that error against KC, so he has to suck.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) The Score has nothing to do with the broadcasters it is the team that does. This is a Sox decision. The SCORE may ahve input but they work for the Sox. Teh SCORE is a s*** station none the less and this is a real pisser. Why is DJ still employeed, does anyone like him???? Uh Oh. I believe you have this 100% bass ackwards.

Back? This team never left. They've been in 1st place the whole damn season and they are still there. Comfortably. They hit their rough stretch and got through it. Now, they roll on to a division title. For starters....

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) Awesome. Someone should record that. If I was musically inclined, I would. I can carry a tune, but can't play any instruments. If someone wants to take a stab at it, go for it. I'd like to have a copy if anyone does it. Thanks for the kind words folks. Once the idea popped into my head, I had to do it. And once I got rolling, it just kept coming.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 06:29 AM) I really think the government at state AND federal levels have massively dropped the ball here. To put it simply, I agree.

I got inspired to get creative tonight. To the tune of "The City of New Orleans" by Steve Goodman: Praying for the City of New Orleans, Hammered by that damned ol' hurricane If the wind and rain wasn't bad enough, The levee broke and in poured Ponchatrain. All in the southland jewel we knew The water keeps on coming through Rising up over houses, cars and stores. Flooding sites with well known names, Bourbon Street's flooded just the same So's the gravesite of old Marie Laveau. Please help us America, Where are you? Don't forget us we're your native sons, We are dying in The City of New Orleans, Another five hundred gone when the day is done. Suffling along with the old folks and the children. Where we going? Ain't no one got a clue. Dragging plastic bags holding our possessions Oh Lord, tell us, what're we gonna do?. Well, the cops are flat out helpless And the politicians too While ruthless gangs rob, rape, kill and steal. Mothers with their babes a-dying, While ducking all the bullets flying Thirsty scared and hungry is all we feel. Please help us America, Where are you? Don't forget us we're your native sons, We are dying in The City of New Orleans, Another five hundred gone when the day is done. Nighttime in The City of New Orleans, There's no future here that I can see. Way it's goin', we'll be dead by morning This Louisiana nightmare it seems, will be the death of me. And all I saw today seems To fade into a bad dream And those in charge still ain't got a clue. The president spouts his crap again, The refugees will keep on dyin'. This place's got the disappear-in-history blues. So tell us, America, Where were you? You forsaked us, each and every one. I'm the place they called The City of New Orleans, But after two hundred years or so, I'm gone.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) Wasn't Kenny saying that once they got Frank back(early in the season) that, that would be the big boost to the lineup needed?? There was point prior to when Frank came back, that it looked like he would come back. Of course, then, they would start talking that way. That's only logical. Things change when his return is probable, if not for certain. But, this team was built without them counting on Frank. It was repeatedly stated by KW.
