This is a case where Ozzie and Coop need to ask the other starters for their input. Then, if they think the guys are not getting wore down do it how the pitchers want to do it. However, if they are getting signs of them running out of gas, use BMac in some way to get them a little extra rest.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:50 PM) I'm sorry, but I have zero interest in seeing Hurt play in the post-season. A, he's not going to have the at bats necessary to get himself ready and B, he's a total liability to have, especially the deeper you get into the post-season (if they make it). Plus if they do end up playing in an NL park for half of a series you have a guy thats totally worthless unless its in a one AB situation and like I said, you have the issue of the guy having zero rehab time. Give him 20-25 AB's at the end of the year and he'll be fine. Frank's a professional hitter. The man knows how to hit. What you saw earlier this year was a reinjured Thomas trying to keep playing.

Since the beginning of the 7 game losing streak, if I calculated correctly, we are 6-11. Now reverting back to 25-25 record over the last 50 games, then we were 19-14 prior to the 7 game suckage streak and 6-4 since the end of it. That 7 game streak was our proverbial bump in the road. We got through it and survived it. We will be ok.

Griffey Jr.: 'I'm not going' to the White Sox

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) The last article in the Southtown on this believed that the Reds were willing to pick up 1/3rd of the contract. It essentially stated the White Sox are fools for not doing what needs to be done. If the NYY$ had better pitching this year they would have jumped at the chance to claim him off waivers. If you believe the article then it's never been about talent & always about the money. The White Sox are not willing to pick up the $23M owed by 2009. They would leave the Reds on the hook for only the deferred $. All of the articles I've read even before the deadline suggest the Reds would be fine with that. The rumor in July had the Reds picking up $15M of what's owed by 2009. Maybe the White Sox have lowered their demands down to $10M but that was never enough for the Reds. They are looking for flexibility in payroll while they have Kearns, Pena, & Dunn. Getting someone to pick up everything but the deferred $ is how to do that. I've read everything I could find on this, inclusing the Southtown's site, and have not seen anything that says this. Got a link? -
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) We've been over this. The general rule allows for ANY player to used as a PTBNL. The only restriction is that the player can not have played in the same league as the destination team. That's not a problem with the White Sox & Reds because they are in different leagues. The problem with using PTBNL to avoid ML waivers is that the Reds are still dealing KGJ on promises. The White Sox are under no obligation to fullfill those promises & the two parties might not be able to come to agreement on future considerations. In that scenario the commish would weigh in & KGJ might be the PTBNL before the 6 month's expire. That's why the best assurance for a PTBNL is cash. The White Sox agree to a cash agreement if the two teams can't agree on the players. It appears the White Sox are not willing to do that. First paragraph is correct. All the rest is nothing more than conjecture, at best.

I'm afraid we are going to have to play this hand out with the cards we've got. It's gotten this far. Hopefully, it will be good enough to win the pot. Edit: Just hope we don't get burned by the flop.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) Yas who? No ... That's Yahoo! BTW, Jeff ... I was joking. Go kick some ass.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:36 PM) That is true. I just think the confidence they're gaining lately is really going to spark their offense the rest of the way. Lets hope I'm wrong, and they go back to slumping when they face the Sox, Twins, and A's. Better pitching has a tendency to do that to hitters.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) I know a lot of us like to argue over his chances in that but it's not every day a Soxtalk poster (well, about once a year) gets to the majors. All those arguments aside, I just wanted to start a congratulations thread to a guy I like to think of as a friend. It was awesome getting to see him pitch. I'm sure Mike, Jason, Rex and BHAM were also beyond giddy to see him too, along with anyone else who has had the opportunity to talk to him. I know I'm about his biggest fan here, and I'll defend him, but he's given me little reason to not talk about him. I'll also e-mail him the URL for the thread so he can give it a read. Baj who?

Could we see Jerry Owens on the team in..........

This ain't spring training. We don't need to conduct any experiments with minor leaguers. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) Because their hitting has actually woken up. Their hitters underperformed for almost the entire first half. How many games did we beat them like 2-1 or 1-0? I think we match up better against the Angels personally. Sure their hitting has picked up. They are playing the dregs of the AL.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) AJ just has a deal for this year. Yes, but we will have control of him. He's arbitration eligble.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) Because Bobby Jenks is just that good. Because Bobby Jenks is that big!

Amen to that. The infantile posts directed at players and other posters has to become a thing of the past. Call it censorship if you want to. Because we are damn well gonna put a stop to it. Don't bring up your constitutional right to freedom of speech unless you are willing to go the Supreme Court with it. Freedom of speech on a privately operated message board is a myth. We give quite a bit of latitude here. More so than your 'average' message board. But then, we don't want to be 'average'. But there has come a point to where we have decided that we have to draw a line. Things were getting out of hand. We are hoping we all can settle into a happy medium and live happily ever after. We also hope you all appreciate what we are trying to do and try and live within the spirit of the rules as opposed to the letter of them.

I think it was ridiculous for Red Sox fans to hate Billy Buckner, and I catagorize this Dybzinski thing the same way.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) Is Halloween still huge? No. Carbondale has pretty well put the clamps on that. It has been toned down dramatically.

QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:34 AM) I do. The Swift Boat Vets started with money. They were well funded out of the gate. Are there people latching onto Cindy Sheehan? Yes. Does that change what she's out there to do? No. Correct. She's still allowing herself to be used as a patsy by the lefties.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) Gotta love that old time rock and roll And that old time post he quoted.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) I would rather not see any further posts about Timo. Period. Omit TIMO The Cubs could use a leadoff hitter, send Timo there! Don't click on threads that are labeled as being about Timo and you just might be able to avoid some of them.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) funny that Nolan Ryan was an avg pitcher He may have had an average W-L pct, but Nolan Ryan was far from an average pitcher.

I'd guess the extra catcher would be Burke simply because he can also fill in at 3b, if needed.

Baj and Harris up. Crede to the DL. Pods activated. Anderson and Atkins to Charlotte. More moves expected.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:20 AM) Stealing signs that is done by a player or coach is way, way, way, way, way different than guys working the scoreboard with binoculars stealing signs. One is part of the game, to some degree. The other is just flat-out cheating. It requires no skill, it's just there for the taking. Well put, Krush.

QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) I like Frank, but this is the stupidist thing I have ever heard. So lame. A recognition day for a current player? Give me a break. :headshake I thought the same thing when they honored Baines after trading him. Yet, I thought the big celebration for Fisk was appropriate, then they screwed that up by cutting him shortly thereafter.
