QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) FWIW, White Sox postgame just said that the White Sox outrighted a member of their 40-man roster to AAA, meaning there's only 39 on there now... could mean a trade is ready or could mean nothing! When read that on chicagosports I had the same thought. Maybe something's up.

QUOTE(spataro51 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) i don't car what happens we just better start playing better because i am officially worried that this team might blow it. Getting ken grif would be a nice spark for this team and that is what we need to have, i say the sox should just pick up the whole contract and make it happen. because i don't see this team having another shot to make it to the big show anytime soon its been long enough. just make it happen! At times, I have the same outlook. Yet, at times, I know that would be one hellacious gamble to take. If we claimed KGJ off of waivers and took on his entire contract, we could be totally screwed for the next few years if he broke down. It's a tough call to make.

You also have the effect that if you do that, other teams may not let your players clear waivers and therefore hamstring your ability to make trades. There is a gentleman's agreement out there and if you break it, like Steve Phillips did as Mets GM, then you'll have to pay the piper. Notice that Phillips is no longer the Mets GM.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) Michael Jordan also had a hardcore gambling addiction among other shady activities that he participated in. MJ was the furthest thing from a perfect person, best basketball player of all time but he's hardly immune from getting ripped on for his personal life. What's that got to do with this discussion?

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Uhhh.. duh. I had been drinking since 9:30 in the morning.. Maybe it's you that should have been visiting all those porta-potties.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) I didn't even know you were in attendance on Saturday. Although I do know exactly who you were after hearing that you were there....hmmm Were you around the group at the tailgate?

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) And then ran... Like a bat outta hell .....

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) Trying to make up for being Mrs Mean yesterday. I missed that I guess. I read two threads here in PHT last night at work and bailed to SL&P. It was too brutal for me.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) As I've posted in the other forum, I think Borchard would be a great callup right now. If our Sox have decided to abandon the style of baseball that earned them the best record in baseball--that is, Ozzie-ball, smart-ball, small-ball, etc.--and revert to their long-ball first attitude, why not call Borchard up. At the very least, he'll put the ball in the seats and if our pitchers continue to allow >4 ERs per start, he may provide some much-needed offense. Either Adkins or Anderson can go back down. Take your pick. I think Adkins will head back to Charlotte for a call up of BMac before that DH in Texas. Though, I wish they'd pitch BMac before the Texas series and push everyone back a day. Texas seems to have his number.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) Yes. Thank you. I knew you couldn't resist.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Not by me. I would support Joe Borchard being called up. In fact I think he should have been here before the Anderson kid who needs more seasoning. You guys think you're brave don't ya? Bringing up a JB promotion on the message board. I said it in person to 3 esteemed members of Soxtalk on Saturday.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) No he didn't. Aw geez ... she's gonna say thank you again. :rolly

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) Larry Himes also selected Jack McDowell, Robin Ventura, Frank Thomas & Alex Fernandez. Yes. I believe those were the guys Dick Allen was refering to.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) guy no offense, but I've more than earned my "not a teen" status. The "coward" chants from the crowd while not something I'd do or liked happening to my team's player, was incredibly hilarious due to it's unfoundedness. Who yells "coward" at a baseball player? that's comedy. 3E8 gets it. Especially considering that ballplayer will run face first into a wall to catch a flyball.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) Hopefully he's a stud. There's no question minor league deals like this can help an organization. Larry Himes picked up Roberto Hernandez for someone who I think never saw AAA. He also drafted well, had 4 #1 picks on the roster of a team that won 94 games, and he was canned, using the point A to point B to point C crap. I know KW won't get canned if the Sox fall apart, and I know there was more to the story of Himes firing than the excuse that was given. But I'm saying, if, and that's still a huge if, this team falls apart, what has occurred the past 5 seasons that would give an indication that KW can take this team to point c? Himes also had some earlier draft choices to work with. We haven't had a top ten selection in 15 years.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) i just think that all this negativity is a great example of what almost 100 years blue balls will do to you. I think you nailed it.

JimH and southsideirish ... I'd suggest that you really should cool it before this blows up into something none of us want to see. Consider it friendly advice.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) For the record, I won't say anything regarding Ozzie/Timo like that from now on. I didn't know that it was frowned upon on here, as I figured most knew it was a joke. Thanks for letting us know it's not appreciated on here. Thanks fathom. Maybe I should have spoke up earlier. When this was mentioned to me by another poster, it hit me just how much I hated it. I had been just scrolling past it, I guess. But it does bring down the quality of Soxtalk, drastically.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Travis hafner came from Texas, and Sizemore came in the Colon trade. Are the Cleveland players supposed to be examples of homegrown talent? Now that i look at it, Garland Cotts AND Jenks arent homegrown talent from the White Sox either. Maybe Jenks wasn't drafted by the Sox, but he was salvaged off the scrap heap. That's a good, no .... Great! GM move.
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) You may be right. My brain it too old to remember. Garland pitched a little over one year in the Cubs system. He was drafted one year and traded to us the next.

QUOTE(Yossarian @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) I made a similar post a while back and it got axed. I was almost afraid to continue posting thinking maybe I'd get banned. It couldn't have been as offensive as "Timo's been slurping on Ozzie's knob again." f*** it. If I get banned for it, I get banned for it. I said it and I stand by it.
-
I'm gonna drop my 2 cents in here. This Timo blowing Ozzie s*** is something I'd expect out of some 13 year old kids. It's offensive. It's insulting to the intelligence of Soxtalk posters and it's been going on for entirely too long. Why the hell don't some of you people grow up or, at the very least, challenge yourself to see if you can possibly come up with something new and halfway intelligent. And, for the record, I am not the only one who feels this way about pre-teen caliber s*** you are slinging around here.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) i would like to see someon throw a perfect game with a pitch count of 27. If it ever does happen, the manager should be fired on the spot. How can you let 27 hitters all swing at the first pitch?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 11:50 PM) Exactly thats where the argument ends.... You dont bring one of your top prospects up to be a 4th OF.... If he is up he is going to be starting.... anyone knows that who knows anything about minor league prospects. You dont bring up your prospects to be bench warmers. A lot of good ballplayers have hit the majors as a part time player. Anderson can do just that and learn how to be a major leaguer until he forces his way into the every day lineup. When you are a contending team, you hand a starting role to an unproven rookie. Once the kid forces your hand, then you make room for him. Not before.
