  1. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) If you look at the transaction logs there are listings for players clearing waivers & being re-assigned to the minors in the month of August. That doesn't fly. Martinez was optioned to the minors in March '04 based on your own post. He was on the 40, based on that post. He wouldn't have been sent through waivers and re-assigned to the minors because he was already in the minors. Care to try again?
  2. Unbelievable ... yet, I believe it.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) OMG, I just looked at the standings. A 17 GAME losing streak??? I almost feel bad for their remaining fans. Magic Number 9 Ya ... Both of them.
  4. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) Avoid the questions you are clueless to answer I see. So typical. Larry Walker trade. It happened. The mlers that were on the 40 man roster didn't have to clear ML waivers. Ignore it. That's what you're good at. One question for you. How do you know those players did not go through waivers?
  5. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 03:23 AM) Right. But you just opened another question box. Can a team really take up to 6 months to complete a PTBNL trade during the ML waiver period (Aug 1-Oct 2)? I found a cool site in the mean-time: http://www.mlb4u.com/rumors.html Somehow this site is tuned into players being discussed in trade talk around MLB & who shows up on waivers & such. It seems to get updated daily. That quote of mine was from Rob Neyer's transaction primer. Apparently, a team CAN take up to 6 months to complete a transaction.
  6. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 03:08 AM) The part that had my head spinning was how does a player get charged for an option year in a year he doesn't report to a ML club? It's got to have something to do with waiver seasons for the off-season & ST. If you are on the 40 man roster in ST & get optioned to the ml's that costs you an option year even though you might never report to the ML club in the course of the season. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/transact...ar=2005&month=3 You can see all the players like Borchard for which this happened. As for BMac his first option year was spent when he optioned back to AAA on 5/27. He has 2 yrs remaining. I believe what is in bold print answers your question.
  7. Ok ... I'm bowing out of this discussion. I was reading Your waiver discussion over in trade winds and now my head is spinning.
  8. QUOTE(AirScott @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 02:14 AM) Uribe's been a better hitter recently. he took a walk from Radke, and Radke has about as many walks as wins. but Crede and Uribe is a blackhole, Ozzie should at least put Anderson between them. as for Griffey, I'd say bring him in as a replacement for Thomas' bat. and put him in LF, and DH Pods. then play Carl like he would have had Thomas stayed healthy. now the hurdle is acquiring Griffey, which JR and KW should do everything in their power to do, whether they have to pay Griffey everything he's owed. That Uribe walk was the first Sox hitter walked by Radke in his last 12 starts against us.
  9. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 02:04 AM) Two ?: How can Martinez be claimed off of waivers from MIL & never be added to STL 40 man roster? Where did you read that the PTBNL cannot be on the 40 man roster? What does question one have to do with a PTBNL?
  10. It's all over Soxtalk. I'm not going to search for it.
  11. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) A trade is considered an assignment from one ML team to another. If you think about it how would any trades ever get done in Aug if contenders could block the mlers in such trades? STL 8/06/04 Traded RHP Jason Burch and 2 PTBNL to COL for OF Larry Walker. COL 8/11/04 Acquired LHP Luis Martinez and RHP Chris Narveson from STL. They had claimed Martinez off waivers from MIL before ST & then optioned him to AAA before the season. I believe he had option years left at the time. This looks like a good example because the PTBNL must be on the 40 man roster. Yet the Walker trade was reported 5 days beforehand. That suggests to me that they submitted a list of players to the commisioners office that didn't require ML waivers. The PTBNL cannot be on the 40 man roster.
  12. I'm glad to see the day off because I think the team can use it. They just need to not think about baseball for a day and clear their minds. They are pressing too much.
  13. I like it. Damn good shot.
  14. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) I've finally come around on the Griffey bandwagon. We desperately need this guy and soon. I believe if we were going to get him, he'd be here by now.
  15. QUOTE(forrestg @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) I'd love to have griffey. He would put us over the top. I don't understand this money thing with Reinsdorf because did or did not Kenny William say when asked if getting a player for the stretch, " Money is no problem". What have you heard that makes you think JR won't spring for Griffey? It does help the Sox to get the best financial deal possible. To me, it seems that this is matter of the Reds not wanting to lower the value of the franchise.
  16. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) Ok so we decide to bring in a bunch of solid relievers right before the game ends... Save some of them and use one and then brin gin Hermy.. THere is absolutely no reason to bring in half of the bullpen just because you have them and because of "matchups". Has anyone ever heard of resting them? They don't have to play every game. Ozzie really needs to learn to not watch for matchups.. If you rest Pitcher A, then Pitcher B is unavailable for a day or two. Then you'd be accusing Ozzie of not being able to manage a bullpen. Imagine that!
  17. QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) You beat me to the punch. Should we include McCarthy too, Jay? Jay Mariotti doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.
  18. We've gone all year without going into an extended funk. I'd rather it happen now than in, say, 7 weeks or so from now.
  19. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) How much influence do you suppose the Sun-Times editors had in Mariotti limiting his Hawk insults? When I logged onto Soxtalk several minutes ago and noticed this thread I was expecting another Hawk Harrelson rant. Unfortunately, Mariotti looks classy here ignoring Hawk. I still despise him, but by not prolonging another back-and-forth fued shows where he priorities remain. Or rather where he's forced to pay attention to. I'm sure they'll be a slow news day in the future we'll hear from our bushy eyebrowed friend on Hawk. This ignorant internet surfing Sox fan says that words classy and Mariotti should never be used in the same sentence.
  20. Do it? Trade Buehrle or Garland or Garcia? I'd love to have Griffey in the line up. He's exactly what we need. But not for the cost of one of those three. No way in hell.
  21. I'm going to try and say this without demeaning any of the columnists that have been critical of Ozzie's comments in NYC. This shows another side of the man than what they portrayed. Ozzie having the sensitivity to recognize Mrs. Cowley's strength completely belies the image of the insensitive oaf that surfaced in NYC.
  22. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) Small block and big block Fords have a great throaty sound as well. I would like to get a hybrid for my next car (hopefully 4-5 years in the future), but I hope the batteries for these types of cars inprove in reliability and go down in cost (not sure where it is now, but some of those were high priced the last time I looked). Another significant cost to calculate into whetherbuying a hybrid is economically a sound decision.
