Grossman's Season Basically Over
Angelo tried to trade for Ramsey at one point. Getting him now wouldn't shock me at all.

The Faces Behind Soxtalk
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 05:23 AM) Dunno, it may be only you can see it because it looks like a yahoo user group file. If you save it to your comp, then upload, should work. I'll do it later from home. I'm at work, now.

Official Indians Blow Thread
QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 12:35 AM) Tampa Bay hands Cleveland it's first loss in a few days. Too bad the Sox couldn't make use of it. They did. That dancing magic number dropped again.

Gotta love the Reds fans...
Chip and Dip? I've never heard that one before. It has to be a reference to Stone, and I certainly do not consider him a dip.

Amphetamines vs Anabolic Steroids
I think the big outcry over steroids is a direct result they have had on the HR numbers that were put up over a 10 year period. Baseball was sailing along and all of a sudden everybody's grandma could hit 40 HR's. That was tangible and visible to baseball fans and they feel like the accomplishments have been tainted. The greenies in the locker room has been around since the 60's, and probably longer. They may have helped the players, but it didn't skew the numbers to the extent that it caught the fans' attention. Steroids did.

"I Hate the White Sox" on Salon.com
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Because people on this site are f***ing hypocrites. They are so quick to b**** about everything under the sun and they can't do any better. Sleepy, no one here said they could do any better, no one is trying. And not you in particular, but most people in this thread bash s*** just because they have no CLUE what it takes to be successful in ANYTHING but sitting here b****ing about what is and is not f***ed up and stupid. It's just like the game threads, and the posts about the players. No one on this damn board, except the players that are signed up, can play baseball (professionally), but boy, we sure are good at talking about what pieces of s*** they all are. It's f***ed up. People need to get a real good idea of real life, and stop hiding behind their damn computer screens criticizing everything and anything. ^ What he said ^

White Sox vs Red Sox - 8/13/05
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 01:59 AM) In my opinion, someone like Jose Contreras or Orlando Hernandez are solid starting pitchers; Mark Buehrle is in another league compared to those two though. Whatever floats your boat I guess. Does 'very solid' work for you?

White Sox vs Red Sox - 8/13/05
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 01:51 AM) The word solid was a little misleading, good man. It all depends on your interpretation of the word. I think solid says quite a bit about a pitcher.

White Sox vs Red Sox - 8/13/05
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 01:45 AM) Very solid? I don't think there are five starting pitchers in the game who I'd rather have and only Johan Santana, both 26, would I rather start a team with. Would you disagree? Totally. Any tool with half a brain should realize that MB's a quality pitcher.

White Sox vs Red Sox - 8/13/05
Buehrle is not an ace in the classic sense of the word. He is, however, a very solid proven major league pitcher that any non-insane ML GM would love to have on his team. Mark Buehrle is an asset and I'm damn glad he's on the White Sox.

Overrated Stat
QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 10:03 AM) To say the BA w/RISP will suffer due to sacrifices makes no sense, considering a sacrifice doesn't count as an AB But ... many times a hitter will just make sure he puts a ball in play rather than taking a good cut to get a base hit. It depends on the situation. Those type of "sacrifices" are counted as an AB, as opposed to sac bunt.

hypothetical question
QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) Since the games would be in Cleveland I think the paying fans would be thrilled if we didn't play our "A" lineup. That said, I don't see this team laying down for anyone even if we don't go with the A team. I mean, look at that Wednesday lineup, were we trying to let the Yankmees win? Another possible scenerio, it's Oct. 2nd, the Yanks, BoSox, Tribe, and Angels(or A's with other in 1st) all have identical records. Yanks-BoSox are playing each other in Boston with the winner taking the AL East, Angels are playing in Tejas, Tribe are at home vs the White Sox who clinched 2 weeks earlier and have locked up the best record in baseball. Do you still play all your starters? Nope. You set your team up for the playoffs as much as possible. Let the other teams worry about where and how the chips fall.

Greatest Songwriter(s) of All- Time?
We've taken a long and winding road through all these songwriters, but when you are talking about the best you always have to get back to Lennon-McCartney. Though it's been longer than thirty years ago, today, you just have to let it be.

ARow versus 1-Dog
QUOTE(Carlo Paz @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 06:38 AM) My dad was just saying (at the game on Saturday) that he saw both Landis and Berry play, and that while Landis was faster, Berry was the best he ever saw. I can't argue that. I remember Berry much more vividly than I do Landis. I knew he was very good, but due to my youth at the time, I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. I personally can vouch for Berry. He was the best I ever saw out there too.

Nightengale's Griffey/ Sox update
QUOTE(Capn12 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 06:27 AM) I think people need to realize how this will impact the Sox not only for the rest of 2005, but the length of the contract. I'm not saying I'm against the move at all, but financially, the Griffey deal is a trainwreck. The real question is who is reponsible for the deferred money. As the other deal was worked, KGJ's annual salary was doable for the Sox.
