QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) Question Answered. Last three starts. IP H ER BB K > 90 Pitches 1.2 7 8 1 0 I think he'll still give him a couple of more opps.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) I understand that YAS, but Hernandez's fragileness is not a new subject. You have a pitcher who is in a groove so to speak in BMac, who can save a bit of wear and tear on your playoff savvy, but aging #3/4 guy. Why not Let BMac have the next 2-3 starts, then put Duque back in there when it gets close to playoff time. Its debatable whether or not Hernandez would outperform Contreras at this point as the #3 guy. Because, if Hernandez cannot recapture the ability to go 100-120 pitches, then having him in the playoff rotation could backfire if and when we have to burn the bullpen to finish out his start. Ozzie's giving him the opportunity. Hernandez hasn't grabbed it. Yet.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) Agreed. What a s***ass thing to say, Ozzie. No one is proclaiming BMac as the next Roger Clemens, but you CAN'T look past what he has done in his last 2 starts. He has dominated 2 MLB lineups. Besides, what incentive is there to throw Duque out there every 5th day during the regular season for 110-120 pitches? To see if you can make his arm fall off? Now is a great time to let him rest....sometimes I just have to shake my head at Ozzie. I'll answer your question. Ozzie is giving El Duque every chance to prove, now, that can be counted on to pitch 110-120 pitches. If he is unable to do so, which has been the case so far, then that will be figured into the equation when determining who the 4th starter will be in the playoffs. I keep saying that Ozzie has long term goals in mind and keeps giving guys chances to prove what they can and cannot do. When people scream because Ozzie leaves El Duque in for an inning more than they think he should, and say he doesn't know how to handle a pitching staff, they aren't looking at that big picture at all.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) I said I highly doubt that 64% of Illinoisians (Is that a word? ) think ID should be taught in school meaning a much lower % would support the movement. Therefore I used the term "few people" to describe the percentage of residents in Illinois that support the teaching of ID. Yet you mentioned NY and LA to strengthen your original post. Brilliant!

A. J. Pierzynski is every bit as important to the success of the White Sox than Jason Veritek was to the Red Sox last year. Both guys do a damn good job of being field generals, handling pitchers and just being excellent all around ballplayers.

QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) it's happened countless times on the boards and more than a few times between friends while watching the game. ozzie is terrible at managing pitchers, that's a fact. No. It's an opinion. And a misguided one at that.

Griffey is injury prone. He is prone to hamstring injuries. At least, he has been. A new workout regimine or something may have changed that. Still, I'd love to have him in our lineup.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 11:50 AM) Sorry, you're way off base. Juggernaut said 64% of americans think ID should be tought in school. I would like to see a regional breakdown in this figure because our public schoola are funded by state governments. I highly doubt 64% of people in Illinois think ID should be tought in school, and if that's the case, why should my tax dollars pay for something that few people want? Your original post implied as much, but you say different and I can accept that on face value. As for your tax argument, you also have a point. But you are talking on a state level. Since this is a constitutional issue, it's also a national issue. The biggest argument against this is whether or not the separation of church and state applies. Therefore, 64% of the nation is not what I consider "few people".

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) Took the words right out of my mouth. I have to admit, I had the same exact thought.

QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) Let's forget about the politics and just help these people... I'm not sure we have the luxury to forget about the politics. We certainly need to prioritize getting help to these people, but we have to examine what happened and what didn't happen here. We could have another natural disaster, or man made disaster, next week. We have to get on this and fix it, asap.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) No walks in his last 3 starts, that's just simply incredible for Jose. What was his era in August? It was around the low 1's but as impressive as that is, that no walks in 3 starts is the most impressive stat to me. Which is the exact reason why I think it has finally "clicked" for him.

QUOTE(RX Bandits @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) I wish people would stop asking hawk why he calls the red sox the carmines. I used to want to know the answer now it's like every red sox game tha question comes up. Hawk, just call them the red sox to avoid me getting pissed off again. Why DOES he call them the Carmines?
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) No doubt, if Jose pitches half as well as he did in August he should be our number 4 guy in the playoffs. I think it's finally "clicked" for Contreras. If so, then his head won't get in the way of him using his great stuff.

Unbelievably, I have 1-4 record this year. I saw Garland get rocked in Texas. I was at the Sox thumping of the Cubs in the first game at the Cell. I saw Prior beat Garland 2-0 at the Sunday game of that series. My father and I attended the first two games at the Cell vs. the Yankees when we scored a total of 1 run. I'm staying home the rest of the year, I think.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) Its a win-win situation with Borchard. Our only chance to get something for him is to play him and see if we can get his value up. If not, we are going to lose him for nothing or next to nothing anyway. I am estatic to see that Baj got the call over Adkins, like he should have a month ago. I also am looking forward to seeing more of the Brian Anderson show. I think that will be a long running hit show.

I expressed some hesitation in giving the ball to McCarthy vs. Hernandez is an earlier post. The more I think about it, the less hesitation I have. Having said that, at this point in time I'd go with Contreras as the number 4 starter in the playoffs.

You take Pauly's average stats over the past five or six years, and that includes his poor 2003 season, and his numbers are pretty solid. I want him back in 2006.

So, the location of a person is somewhat conducive to the value of their particular point of view? I detect a certain amount of regionally based arrogance here.

Prayers and condolences to you and yours, Tom.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Idonno if I really want Konerko back but we definitely got to add some power if we do lose him.... What would be really cool is if we can trade for Overbay and sign Furcal... lineup next year: Podsenick Furcal Overbay Thomas Iguchi Pierznski Rowand Dye Uribe/Crede Really I have no clue how this off-season is going to be. It can be really exciting with many moves or it can be very boring with practicly none. This is true, but I'm more concerned about the post-season than the off-season.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) The best option at our fingertips, I assume you mean. That doesn't mean we can't go out and trade for a Lyle Overbay as a stopgap type player, or perhaps as a player for the future...nor does it mean the Sox can't try and trade for a Jim Thome or a Todd Helton. That also doesn't mean that we can't go out and upgrade elsewhere while downgrading at catcher. Get a 3Bman that can hit, try and get a SS with power, perhaps cut ties with Frank and bring in anybody that can hit, period. I figure Rowand will rebound power wise somewhat at the plate next year, Iguchi will hit for a little better power, Uribe will probably rebound slightly as well, and Crede could perhaps start hitting like he was in June and July before these injuries started to come up. We should be fine with or without Konerko next year. We won't "be fine" without Konerko unless we replace him with a 35-40 HR and 90-100 RBI type hitter.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) I like Blum trying to move to 3rd on that play...entirely because it gives us 2 chances at a sacrifice fly/squeeze bunt instead of 1. Making the 3rd out of an inning at 3rd, like Pods did yesterday while trying to steal third, is a terrible idea. But there are cases where risking the first out of an inning there is more acceptable, because it sets up the sac fly. That was a bad play by Blum. That's a baseball no-brainer. Sure, once he was safe, it made for an advantageous situation. But, that was stupid baseball. Hell, it was a bad throw and he still just barely got in there. That's one of those "You have to be sure" scenario's. There was no way he was sure he'd get in there safely.

QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) Downgrading from 40 homeruns to 15-20 is not going to cut it. And expecting Gload, a very unknown quantity for an entire season, to hit .310 is foolish in my humble opinion. I'll second that.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) There was a play that I didn't criticize? I didn't even know that was possible. OK. I'll spill the beans. Geoff Blum's triple. He broke one of the cardinal rules of baseball by attempting to go to 3rd on that play. That rule being that you never risk making the first or third out of the inning at 3rd base. An accurate throw would have nailed him, and he was just barely safe as it was. It didn't make any difference in the outcome of the game, but at the time it occured, it was a bonehead play and Blum got lucky. I just found it interesting that nobody mentioned it in the thread.
