  1. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) Shot down or gave my opinion? Ya... Are you going to throw a name out there or keep avoiding the question?
  2. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) I would like to see someone traded for... because quite frankly this years free agent crop is one of the worst in a while. Offensively, next off-season, not this one coming up... the crop is loaded. Put it this way, the 20th best hitter two years from now will be a better deal than the prize of this years, ( nomar). I feel the sox will pick-up everett's or possibly renegotiate with the sox and i feel konerko will not be on the white sox next spring. I just foresee something s***ty happening ( to a lesser extent of maggs). You shot down other people's suggestions. Tell who you'd like the Sox to pick up that would be a realistic possibility.
  3. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 01:38 AM) Aubrey huff's ops over the last four years... 2002= .884. 2003= .922. 2004= .853. 2005= .740. Huff has declined the last two years signifigantly. He is doing so in a time period when most players hit their primes (28-32). He is currently 28 and will be turning 29 in december. Bacially, huff is a younger but more expensive version of out current number three hitter, carl everett. If it was up to me neither would be on the sox next year, especially as one of our big offensive weapons. Neither huff, everett, or tracy our three holes hitters in my opinion. The way they are currently hitting everett and huff are best suited sixth and tracy fifth. Who would you like to see the Sox pick up for that 3 hole?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) How does this data compare when you stick in the 2nd half of August? By choosing just the month of September, you've selectively avoided the thing that really put us in this situation...that disasterous end of August, and you selectively included a 7 game winning streak. We may be 7-4 in September, but right now, that record does not reflect how we have played over the last 30 days. You are selectively including the only period where we had a 7 game losing streak. If you eliminate that streak, we were over .500 from the break to the streak and we are over .500 since the streak.
  5. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) He lost all cred with that statement. Right. A World Series winning manager loses all credibility because he says something you disagree with. Priceless.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) No, Carlos Lee is not a free agent this year. The Brew Crew will have him for 1 more year after this one. A lot of these things depend on the math. A shocking number of them. Garland is due a big pay raise, as is AJ. Keeping them both piles on the cash. Konerko right now is our offense. Between those 3, if we keep them all, that's an additional $10-20 million in salary beyond this year. The good news...we have Frank's contract coming off the books, so that will drop from roughly $8 million to $3.5 million. If Reinsdorf is willing to open the pocketbook a lot, Bill Mueller is available as a more than serviceable replacement for Crede. But given the choice between Mueller and Konerko, AJ, or Garland, there is no choice at all. Aside from that, trading for pieces may become a necessary step. A question for those who know contracts...if the White Sox pick up Everett's option, what are the rules regarding trading him? With a new Free Agent, you cannot trade a signee for a couple months after the season starts, what about picking up an option? They can pick up the option, then trade him.
  7. Crede. That's a no-brainer. Pitching and defense, folks.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) Look who's talking. :headshake Seriously though, have a good time, I wish I could be there but school sucks. *sigh* good point.
  9. The way they've been pitching lately, you have to go with Vizcaino. Without a moments hesitation.
  10. I hope everyone has a good time tonight. I wish I could be there. However, if you don't bring home a "W" tonight, you're going to have serious explaining to do.
  11. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) That is strange. It's like if we posted a link to a news story that says quoting SS2k gives you herpes.... Simplex?
  12. Congrats Cheat! Welcome to the club. BTW, Steff uses her fangs a lot more in than she does with the under 10000 post rabble.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 05:59 AM) For the record, this would also allow the GOP to put any damn thing they wanted on to this bill knowing damn well it wouldn't be voted down. What's wrong with cutting the bulls*** and passing a Republican disaster relief bill that's just a Republican disaster relief bill? There are two sides to all this spin, and there are two agendas ... always. The "liberal" viewpoint had already been expressed, thank you.
  14. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:55 AM) Heres a LOL! question for the ages. Over/under on how long it would take ME to get banned over there. Sign up today and the answer is ... yesterday.

    Hurricane Katrina

QUOTE(winodj @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Maybe the more appropriate question is "Why does the government feel it more pressing to spend a half billion dollars on bridges to uninhabited islands in Alaska than the money the Army Corps of Engineers asked to continue protecting New Orleans from storm surges and hurricanes and other floods?" If the federal government provides funds for both of these projects, perhaps they'd be better off making 50 people in Alaska use a ferry while they use the "scarce" funds to protect a half million. This is an example of the nasty congressional habit of "pork barrel spending". There is not one of those two faced bastards up on the hill that does not partake of this folly. Before Pelosi or Delay (one of each, ya notice?) start pointing any fingers at anybody, they need to take a look in the damn mirror because they are just as much at fault that NOLA's levee failed as anyone they can possibly point their finger at.

    Hurricane Katrina

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) Now this one is truly heartwarming...in the midst of one of the greatest natural disasters in U.S. history, it's good to know that the Republicans weren't troubled by any crazy notions of wanting to appear bipartisan or allow for accoutability in their aid packages. Those damn treasonous Democrats...if we let them see the text of this bill...The Hurricanists Win! For the record, this would also allow the Dems to "piggyback" any damn thing they wanted on to this bill knowing damn well it wouldn't be voted down. What's wrong with cutting the bulls*** and passing a disaster relief bill that's just a disaster relief bill? There are two sides to all this spin, and there are two agendas ... always.
  17. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Pm me what you were gonna say if you can... I am sick of it. You can't back up marte here and you also cannot call ozzie a bad manager? You cannot second guess ozzie or even question a move of his before it's done without getting smartass remarks from his backers ( sox best record in american league... hehe). Give me a break. He is a borderline awful in game manager... but i know... the sox are winning. For the record, I didn't see a damn thing wrong with your post. Just my opinion.
  18. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) Just saw a replay of the game after Marte plunked Stairs. Looks like Ozzie really let him have it. Seems like he is trying to get Marte to grow some balls and pitch to lefties better again. See, this is why I love Ozzie. His personality is why we are so many games over .500. It's easy to second guess moves. He manages the guys KW gives him. If KW doesn't want Marte in the game, get rid of Marte. I personally dislike Viz the most of our pen. Marte has talent; he's just sucking. Exactly. He's trying to get Marte's head on straight before the playoffs, just in case we need him in a big spot. Why the hell not do it now? May not have time to accomplish it after we clinch.
  19. Hart seems to be very reluctant to trade hitting for pitching. Texas has needed pitching for years, yet they sending those thumpers out there to try and win 14-12.
  20. Let's hope Rowand adds one more award to his resume this year. World Series MVP!
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) If you read this on WSI, in the thread I posted the schedule, it's total speculation. As far as I know, the road portion hasn't come out yet, nor have the 2006 home schedules of the Pirates, Reds, or Brewers. Do you know something we don't know? This schedule was mentioned here on Soxtalk 2 or 3 days ago, and it mentioned that we play the Reds and Pirates, but not the Brewers. I am too lazy to hunt for it, but any that wants to, feel free.
  22. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) How about a compromise which would seem to benefit everyone? Let El Duque make his remaining scheduled starts to keep him sharp and in the groove for the playoffs, but give him the hook after four or five innings, and trot McCarthy out to finish off each game. Also, regarding Ozzie’s sarcastic remark about McCarthy being no Roger Clemens: there’s a dark side to his humor that can be very unattractive, especially when he’s dealing with younger players. He did something similar when he made a point of belittling Willie Harris’s talent during a Jackie Robinson appreciation-type event (last year?). A compromise? From Ozzie? What have you been smoking?
  23. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:34 AM) I still think that the 2005 version of El Duque in the playoffs is going to be relegated to being that Game 3 or 4 starter when the pen has had rest from Buehrle/Garcia. If you get 6 IP out of him in a playoff game, consider it a success IMO. This isn't the same Hernanzed that sparkled in the postseason for the Yankees. They don't call me Captain Obvious for nothing. Of course, you'd be taking a risk by assuming MB and FG do in fact go deep into those games.
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) No doubt he'll get more opportunities. Does he deserve them? Probably not. Ozzie should accept that Duque is a 5 inning pitcher and be done with it. What will more opportunities cost? Maybe Duque's arm. We should be protecting his arm, not seeing how many pitches it can take before it snaps again. Hell, maybe it's a conspiracy to get El Duque on the DL so they can justify keeping Bmac.
  25. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) I could have swore that Cotts was warming up an inning earlier. But yeah, you're right on Marte not being the best lefty out there any more. Marte needs to sit down for about a week with Cooper and just work on mechanics. Something's clearly wrong there. The people above me are right that we don't "Need" Marte to be dominant in the playoffs. But wouldn't it sure be damn helpful if he could be? This is point that some fail to grasp.
