  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) That's what I'm saying. There was nothing encouraging about last night's game. Shingo gives up 2 ER, Cotts allows them to score, Vizcaino seemed serviceable at the best, Walker gave us what we expected, and the offense disappeared after the first inning. That game just sucked ass, like all other Oakland games before it. Just thank heaven we didn't end up swapped with Texas when they set up the divisions.
  2. Just to clarify things, who exactly is our 5th starter now ... Contreras, Hernandez or McCarthy? It seems every time one of these guys gets ripped, they are compared to 5th starter black hole of prior years.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) They take our broadcasts and dub in sound. I understand the sentiment, but I'm looking at a bigger picture and believing strongly in our system and way of life. By not allowing them, we are saying that freedom of the press is bad. That our constitution isn't working. They are filming something so common place, yet we stop them and expose how afraid we are. Once again President Bush speaks about spreading democracy around the world. Shouldn't we be a shining example of that? This isn't our government we are talking about. This a group of American citizens, who, if they don't want to pander to the Arabs, they have that right. Sorry, but I'm not as liberal in my thinking as some around here are. If these guys want to give AJ a proverbial "up yours" then so be it.
  4. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) Didn't he still give up like 2 runs? All in all, there was nothing good about last night's game. The runs were charged to Shingo, Cotts let the runners score, I believe.
  5. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 01:17 PM) wasn't this around the same time he returned last year. Nope .. That was late May, in Texas. I was at his first game back in RF.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) Good thing our enemies don't watch Fox News or listen to Rush. US news and entertainment is broadcast around the world. It is one of our leading exports. The real coup by not letting AJ film is keeping the monopoly for US broadcasting companies. So, we should throw more of it out there? Give it to them in their language on their network?

    Andy Rooney

Say what you will, but I basically agree with the principles espoused in both of those postings. There are some I have qualms about, but ingeneral, they work for me.
  8. QUOTE(Adam G @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) What about having the fans vote for the backups? Or maybe giving the players a veto power over the fans' choices of the starters? We shouldnt have this BS like Nomar leading the NL SS voting, it turns the game into a sham. It's not going to happen. You might as well accept that fact.
  9. Every time we go out west, we get our asses kicked in the first game. It's jetlag, folks. The whole team was flat last night, Contreras included.
  10. Regardless of how you choose to classify Al-Jazeera, the fact remains that they broadcast to the Arab world. Within that Arab world does exist a faction that are, in fact, sworn enemies of the USA. So .... The so called idiots known as the Minutemen were not so f***ing stupid because AJ's target audience is partially comprised of enemies of the USA. Those are the people the minutemen didn't want to broadcast the information to about the gaping security hole known as our southern border. Some "idiots" actually think things through. Others just spout rhetoric.
  11. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 04:12 AM) wow... wtf is up with the big unit? He's getting old. It happens to the best of 'em.
  12. I don't blame the cameraman one iota. This was not an accident by Rogers. He assaulted the guy. Period. Then he did it again, and went after a second cameraman. These guys were doing their jobs and were where they were supposed to be. If Kenny Rogers is too f***ing stupid to release he is going to be caught on camera while physically attacking a cameraman, then he deserves to wallet lightened. I'd sue the prima donna bastard too.
  13. Don't know if it's mentioned elsewhere ... and if it is, don't show me the link, I'll find it ... Some guy named Ordonez for Detroit also took Johnson deep.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) didnt you see my disclaimer, everything I say is my opinion. Baj is better, there you go. Can't say that I did see your disclaimer, but you know what they say about opinions.....
  15. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) Pwn3d Anyways, maybe it is JMHO...but I do think that if you put both the Sox and Tigers in neutral parks and neutral pitching staffs for an entire year that the Tigers would outscore the Sox. As proven by how many runs the Sox have outscored the Tigers by(24, if I did my math correctly...Sox have outscored them 39-15 this year in their head to head matchups), the pitching staffs are very much not neutral at all, and the fact that the Sox play in a launching pad, while the Tigers play in a cavernous park. Neutralizing the runs that they have scored against each other, due to 'unfair advantages", I think that the parks alone may make up for the .2 runs alone. While concrete evidence does not support me, I'm still going to believe that the Tigers lineup is better than the Sox lineup is at scoring runs...similar to how the 00-04 Sox lineups were better at scoring runs than the Sox are now. I could care less...the Sox only have 53 wins, are only 10.5 up on second place Minny, and are only up (lol) 16 on 4th place Detroit. Ok. Good point. Now let's take this a bit farther. Subtracting the head to head results from the rest of the league. Sox: 370-39=331 Det: 334-15= 319 If I remember correctly, Detroit scored 10 last night, and the Sox 2 ... so .... Sox: 331 + 2 = 333 Det: 319 + 10 = 329 Which brings things current. Basically, what we have determined here is that it's very close, no matter how you look at it. Though runs scored on the road might give some more insight to this, but personally, it's not worth the effort.
  16. Milkman. As far as I'm concerned, you're not all that negative. You have your moments, for sure, but you generally balance it out. That being said, the fact that several people called you out in this thread may have served as more of an eye opener than a PM from a single poster. Also, the fact that you did not like being called out in public probably didn't mean a whole helluva lot to those that did not like reading all the negative BS in the game threads. Basically, your posts were publically made, so don't b**** when you are publically called out about them. Consider this as constructive criticism and some food for thought.
  17. For starters, they will never eliminate the fan vote. Everytime a fan picks up a ballot, there is an ad in his hand. Everey time a fan goes to mlb-dot-com, he sees ads. Those ads equal $income$. So, you might as well forget about it. The National League could cause the elimination of the "every team has a rep" rule because the current system puts them at a disadvantage, one that now has an effect on the World Series. The NL has to burn 2 more spots on their team, as they have 16 teams and the AL has 14. I think that rule should be s***canned as well.
  18. I don't talk on the cell phone when driving. I'm usually too busy paying my bills or reading the newspaper.
  19. I expect the D-Backs to pick up some of these suddenly available relievers.
  20. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) VA, I'm not trashing Vizquel, I actually respect Omar a ton, I'm a pretty big fan of the way he plays the game. However Juan is a 25 year old shortstop who has more pop in his bat then Omar and at this point has more range then Vizquel and a much better arm. To answer your question unless a Chavez is available or a player of that capability I leave the offense alone. Crede and Juan who might not be hitting the cover off the ball have been a huge, huge part of this teams success because they suck everything hit to them and make some outstanding plays. But they aren't hitting .350. They SUCK!!!!
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) Sigh. It won't happen. Does anyone really think the White Sox will trade a dangerous bat like Carl Everett, not to mention they are in 1st place by a lot and they love the clubhouse chemistry? And just for grins, Derek Lowe has a huge contract and is represented by Scott Boras? The LA writer is picking up on old info and talking out of his ass. Everett is probably the single biggest addition to the clubhouse chemistry of this team. I know he was here half a season last year, but he was a shell of himself at the time. His comment to Doug Mjgffyuflufg of Minnesota in 2003 told me plenty about Carl and the team we had.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) In fact, hes better than Gas-caino, they just wont give him another shot. You have no idea if he's better than Vizcaino or not. Baj has never proven he can get ML hitters out. Vizcaino has.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 06:46 AM) True. I just thought it was hilarious when someone suggested not resigning Konerko and having Daigle replace him next season. Now, I have no problem with not resigning Konerko but come on... Ya. That's a bit of a stretch.
  24. There are many cases where the label of "sex offender" is not justified. People are so quick to support this s***, without giving thought to how it can totally f*** up someone's life. There is a legitimate need for sex offender registration, but damn, this is sick.
  25. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/heraldn...e/j01common.htm Here it is. w00t. Hey man ... GREAT column. That is one of my biggest beefs with the current administration.
