QUOTE(IndplsSoxFan @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 08:18 AM) According the southsidesox.com, the D-backs had some scouts at the game last night looking at someone in our bullpen. They speculate that it would be Vizciano. Has anyone heard anything about a trade? I didn't want to search through that massive trade thread. Here's the clip: Could be a trade in the works with the D'backs. An Arizona scout has attended the last two Sox-Tigers games. The Diamondbacks desperately need relief help. The D'backs got to see a whole lot of bullpen on Wednesday. Luis Vizcaino has to be the guy who the Sox are shopping. He's out of options, and wore out my patience long ago. He didn't even look good in his 2.1 scoreless last night. Maybe the D'Backs were fooled by the results. Cotts and Shingo both have options left, and have pitched very effectively lately, so I don't see them as options. Marte, Politte, and Hermanson are too valuable to be giving up. On top of all that, I can't think of anything on the major league level that Arizona could give us to make the team better. The deal would have to be for prospects. This was discussed at length in the trade thread. You'll find plenty of maybes, ifs, ands and buts there.

QUOTE(Be Good @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 07:26 AM) Shingo's been turning it around for the last month Have you watched how Ozzie was using Shingo. He started putting in games with nothing on the line .... no pressure, maybe let him face a RH hitter or two, then pulled him. Ozzie gradually increased the amount of pressure on Shingo by picking and choosing the situations he pitched him. So last night, we had a 9.5 game lead and a tie game. If we lose it, it's not a stake in the heart, but the game situation had plenty of pressure within itself. The 13th inning was Ozzie way of saying, Ok Shingo, I'm convinced. Now prove me right.

What else can be said other than, Buehrle!

They can keep looking. The Giants are not going to receive that much from anybody.

I almost missed this beacuse of my trip to Chicago. Thanks to all.

Oh man, this is rich. Great thinking on someone's part.

Dallas and Houston charge 8.25% but what they aren't telling you is that there is no state income tax in Texas.

Happy belated birthday.

What Former Sox player should have his number

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 03:43 AM) I think hall of fame and a team retiring your number are completely different, To get your number retired is am honor from your team and it means you meant a lot to the franchise even if you arent a HOF, for example while we all hate him Ron Santo means a lot to the cubs franchise even if he wasnt an announcer and he had his number retired but isnt a HOF. I can see your point. IMO, Santo should be in the Hall .... as should Pierce and Minoso. -
By kicking the camera, I guess Rogers doesn't want to be outdone by Oliver Perez.

Those poor pitiful Yankees. What a shame.

I wouldn't even call it a disagreement. I was merely guessing at why AZ was snooping around. It very well could be Farnsworth they are scouting.

Arizona may figure in a 3-way wth Sox and Giants. Unless the Sox are looking at a veteran like Counsel.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:37 AM) Ummm....no. Why in god sakes would the Sox deal a solid reliever (Viz pitched pretty darn admirably tonight and is showing some velocity) in order to call up an unknown like Jenks. Plus what are the Sox getting in return. Lets make one thing clear, Kenny isn't dealing from his pen in order to make room for Baj or Jenks this year. The only reason they'll get a shot is if they replace someone due to injury or in Hermy's case bereavment and come up and kick ass during that time. Otherwise they'll be waiting till September or playing in the majors for some other team before than cause those are the only reasons they'll be up here, imo. I agree that KW won't deal from the pen just to make room for the kids. But, he may deal from the pen to, for example, acquire Schmidt, knowing he has Baj and Jenks down there waiting in the wings.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:27 AM) Minoso? Pierce? Touche'. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) Because he is prone to giving up deep fly balls. He did it at Wrigley, he did it at Texas, and he did it at Detroit. Those deep flies tonight are homers at many ballparks and definately at the Cell. He will have to pitch his home games at the Cell, right? Damn, you're a stubborn cuss. :headshake

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:18 AM) I bet their are lots of teams that retired A LOT of non Hof's . Those franchises IMO , are the types that get looked down upon. I know we have a few already I think Baines is the only one. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) Yes, it was a QS. But I still fear him pitching at the Cell. He probably would have given up 4 homers if he was pitching at the Cell tonight. But he wasn't pitching at the Cell. If he was, he might have pitched those guys differently. He did what he did tonight. Why belittle his accomplishments with meaningless speculation?

Let Halladay start. Save Mark and Jon for Sox games.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:06 AM) After Shingo had already pitched 1.2 innings? I give up. Agree to disagree?
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 02:02 AM) Low risk? 1. We had a chance to gain another game on the Twins with a win. That is huge considering we play them 13 more times in August and September. 2. We had a 1-run lead. It was a SAVE SITUATION. That is what your CLOSER is for. 3. Shingo had pitched 1.2 IP before that final inning. He had the bases loaded with only 1 out. A single could score 2 runs and lose the game. I used the word "relative" in my post. Of course, the loss would have hurt. But again, I still say that he'd have to attempt straightening Shingo out at some point, and this was a damn good time to take that shot at it.
-
Jinx. No jinx. Whatever. This thread is WAY too premature.
-
It was low risk for the following reasons: 1. We had, at that moment a 9.5 game lead. 2. We did have a lead in the game. 3. Even if Shingo gives up a run, we can still win the game. All of these add up to "low risk" vs the relative "high reward" we get from having a bullpen with several confidant pitchers. Also, I don't think Ozzie gives a rat's ass about second guessers, and he shouldn't. He's the man in charge and should do things his way until KW or JR decide otherwise.

Retired numbers should be reserved for HOF'ers, IMHO. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) You get Shingo going again, and suddenly our bullpen looks a whole lot better. Definitely a key going into the 2nd half of the year and the playoffs, in case something does happen to the "Herminator". That's what I've been trying to say. It's about getting things lined up for the stretch run. Low risk (today's game) vs. high reward (solid pen the rest of the way).
