  1. Wow. What a mess. I only have two things to say about all of this. First and foremost, I am very sorry that Steff was an innocent victim in all this. She has always treated me in a stylish, classy and diginified manner and I think very highly of her. I don't know what was said, Steff, and I don't want to know. As far as I'm concerned, you are "good people". Finally, I never cared for Ncorg after I spent some time around here and became more familiar with his personality. What he did to rafacosta was classless and uncalled for. I eventually got to the point that I just skipped any Ncorg post without reading it. The constant "Tub-o-goo" posts pushed me to that point. I was much happier with Soxtalk once I stopped reading his posts, and even moreso when he stopped posting here.
  2. Your two statements are almost directly contradictory to each other. It basically says Nomar is worthless, but then they won't trade him for nothing.
  3. Well you should just forget about Matheny. There is no way in hell the Cardinals risk negatively effecting the pitching staff by trading him.
  4. Any manager has to go to the bullpen or he wouldn't have any healthy starters. He's forced to go to the pen, even if he knows it will blow up in his face. What choice does he have?
  5. The Yankees seem like a longshot to me, because of the Wells incident and the fact that NYY have zilch in the farm system. It would have to include a third team, imho.
  6. He's right. After last year, the Twinkie-ites have no room to b**** about scheduling.
  7. You forgot one thing the Cell has that Wrigley lacks ........ A FIRST PLACE BASEBALL TEAM!!!!!!!!!!! :fthecubs
  8. I don't recall Snyder being an all-star, though I could be wrong. He did start very well and I remember him beating Pedro in Boston .... vaguely ..... I think.
  9. Stereotyping Asians as masters of emotions and having outstanding intelligence is so degrading.

    Tejada

Jeter is a winner. He's proved it time and time again by coming up big, in big games. He's not the type to carry a team, like Jordan did for the Bulls. But the man has been very clutch in his career. You my not like him or his team, but if you put all prejudices aside, he is a winner.
  11. The fact is, Shingo IS unique to the Chicago sports scene. And he's becoming a big part of the scene and the success of his team. It's a natural progression that his uniqueness as a Japanese ballplayer in Chicago is talked about. Look at all the hoopla that occompanied the successes of Ichiro Suzuki, Hideo Nomo, Hideki Matsui, etc. Now you can also look back a few years and see that the same thing happened with the success of Fernando Valenzuela. He was unique in that he was the most successful Mexican pitcher in ML history. Then when Loaiza matched Valenzuela's 21 wins last year, he was honored by the Mexican president. Making reference to ethnicity of a successful athlete is not degrading or racist. So if it's cool with Shingo that a gong sounds, so be it.
  12. Did anyone consider, even remotely, that Shingo might have REQUESTED the gong because he is proud of his heritage and wants it to be represented when he makes an appearance? I'm so sick of all this "politically correct" crap. It's running this country into the ground. There is a need for it to a certain extent (ex: Chief Wahoo) but if people would just have more of a sense of humor and take things as they are intended, then we'd be a whole helluva lot better off.
  13. I've been a Sox fan for over 40 years and yet, I can not remember them being in a World Series ( I was 2 y.o.) If Kenny Williams wants to "go for it" he's got my backing .... 100% .... To hell with "can't miss prospects". Bring Chicago a World Series! South side, of course.
  14. Singleton was never very highly touted. That first year, he played way above his head.
  15. Navarro was. Ritchie at least tried to be a good pitcher. Navarro blamed everyone but himself for his complete and total suckiness.
  16. I fully expect KW to "kick the tires" as the column said. However, either one of them would be such a longshot and be a very expensive "rental", especially Beltran. You know he'd be gone come the offseason. He'd at least shop his services to see what the market will be.
  17. That Phillies game was one of those "he took one for the team" situations. You take him out after 5 runs or so, as would happen most of the time, his ERA would be a bit more respectable.
  18. So the team is 14-5 in games started by MB. That's almost 75%. You can't expect more than that from a starting pitcher.
  19. The perfect answer to this is Wrigley!
  20. Not really. I'd guess 7 to 8 feet.
  21. 25 years ago? I was dating my future ex-wife.
  22. They showed a view of Lee's catch from the CF camera. The ball was not going out. It would have hit near the top of the fence. That being said, Lee ran it down and time his leap and extension perfectly. On Uribe's HR, Winn hit the wall before he could get his arm extended. In other word's he missed timed his leap or his reach, one of the two.
  23. We won't need more than 3 starters for the playoffs, for the most part. Shoney will start a game unless someone gets hurt.
  24. Oh, don't jump to conclusions here. I was not advocating acquiring Santiago. I just threw another name into the discussion.
