  1. I read that column before coming here. The thought crossed my mind that it had to be a soxtalk poster. Way to be, Mike.
  2. The perception of the Sox being a bad defensive team should have died in 2003. Still, some people hold on to misconceptions in spite of numbers that prove otherwise. For example, Jose Valentin being a lousy shortstop is a misconception that has a life of it's own.
  3. Brando, you make a lot of points that I agree with and I do respect what you have to say. However, on these issues I happen to disagree with you. So let's just agree to disagree and move on to something else we can butt heads on.
  4. Sorta "Cuts Like A Knife", doesn't it?
  5. C'mon. Palmeiro is on his last legs. He's just about done. He's had a great career, but it's almost over. As for using Palmeiro's stats since 99, well .... He won't duplicate them over the next 4 years, whereas Carlos just might. Lee is no longer a defensive liability in LF and he was the only one really showing showing hustle through the corpseball period of early last year. In fact, some of his hustle plays seemed to pull us out of our rut. I still say Baltimore would jump at the chance to make that trade and then laugh about it afterwards
  6. I honestly think there are GM's all over baseball that would love to acquire Joe Crede.
  7. Let me clarify something here. I'm not advocating giving up on these guys yet. I was just saying that they are beginning to run out of time. As for Timo being "weak" .... He's a career .274 hitter. That's pretty solid. He's decent defensively, has some speed and hits lefty so he could very possibly hold down CF until Reed comes up.
  8. He hasn't shown he can hit at the ML level. Who knows, he may just be a AAAA player.
  9. I have on occasion. It doesn't hurt to tip one early so he'll take care of you for the course of the game.
  10. Really. Imagine the Trib running a column like that. Of course, Mr. Downey may find a pink slip on his desk in the morning.
  11. Hi Jeckel. Welcome to the board. I must say that I find it ironic that WCIU is not available at WCIU.
  12. I don't believe that all of the stories in the NT occured, ver batim, as translated, interpreted and selected throught the course of history. However, i do believe SOMETHING happened that was similar and may actually have a scientific basis. For example, when Moses turned the Nile into "blood", it has been suggested that there is a scientific explanation for what actually occured. I don't remember the details, but it had something to do with a distant earthquake releasing tons of a deep red clay into the Nile. The miracle in all this is that God used what was physically available here on Earth to make these "miracles" happen when He wanted them to happen. As for the flood, that is a common story throughout all of ancient civilization, not just the Middle East. Again, SOMETHING happened, though we may not understand exactly what it was.
  13. Every day, I watch the Sun appear to revolve around the Earth. The starts and moon, too. The Earth is the center of the universe and anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant because of the amount of evidence that can clearly be seen with the naked eye. What appears to evidence of something today may be proven to be only misleading or a fallacy tomorrow. Which is why this still, to this day, called the THEORY of evolution.
  14. Welcome back, Beastly and good luck on your endeavor to become a world class poster.

    5000 Posts!

It's only 5000 ?!?!?! It SEEMS like there's been so many more than that. Congrats.
  16. That doesn't carry any weight with me. Durham was an asset of a certain value and we should have been able to get similar value for him.
  17. I wholeheartedly disagree with your assessment of Crede's value, or lack thereof.
  18. Damn right it's possible. Baltimore would trade Palmeiro for Lee in a New York minute! I can't believe you are seriously suggesting WE make that trade.

I didn't even realize Cotts pitched tonight. I started keeping track on ESPN GameCast when Politte was in.
  20. Rowand, Harris and Wright are running out of time. We put Uribe at 2B when Jose gets off the DL, put Timo in CF and Cotts in the 5 slot. Their replacements are available, so if they don't pick it up within the next couple of weeks, changes will have to be made.
  21. He traded him mid-season, but still ended up paying most of his salary. We got Adkins out of the deal, but a guy of Durham's capabilities should have brought much more with us still paying the salary.
  22. Pleased: 11 wins Pissed: 8 losses It all comes down to that.

Koch was the only reliever to pitch an effective inning. It was a typical Billy Koch inning, but no one scored on him. Wait, I think that last sentence is contradictory. It was typical old style Billy Koch inning. Typical now does not include scoreless innings.
