  1. We really need to get over this obsession with the Sox vs. Cubs in the media. I've been guilty of it, and I probably will again. But, I'm going to turn it down a notch, at least. Until the Sox show that they have a team cpapbale of some late October heroics, this crap is not going to change. The Sox, as an organization, needs to focus on the Sox and forget about the Cubs. They can focus on them in June and July.
  2. Now THAT is a true fan. SALUTE to Jim Calhoun.
  3. Drink up, Jason. Happy Birthday!
  4. I still can't give up Lee for Johnson because it "might" put us over the top. Hell, Carlos' bat might put us over the top. Kip Wells may develope into an ace, but he's not there yet. So he's not the guy to put over the top. At Johnson's age, he could be done at any time. Beckett, Schilling, Prior, Halladay, Zito, etc ... I'd consider it, depending on the circumstances.
  5. I never said it was a good idea. Just that it happened.
  6. My answer to you is ... You just don't trade Lee for Johnson. Period. Read the first few sentences of your third paragraph from this post as to why not. Especially the first sentence.
  7. A bust? The dude has had a slow start. A guy having a bad couple of weeks happens all the time, it's just more noticable in the beginning of the year as his stats are flash on the TV every time he comes to bat. Crede is not a bust. No way. Maybe tonight was the beginning of him breaking out of it.
  8. Herb Washington was a world class sprinter who, after some training, was kept on the roster specifically for the purpose of being a pinch runner.
  9. He threw one at one point. Hawk commented on it.
  10. My father watched the Vasquez on the YES netwok. During the game, Jim Kaat was talking about the fact that a pitcher can get into a groove very easily by facing guys hitting from one side of the plate. During a string of right handed hitters, a pitcher is suddenly facing a LH hitter than can hurt you and then the pitcher has to change what he's doing, change his approach, start thinking. I think Kaat pitched long enough to at least have a clue to what he's talking about. This is where one good LH hitter would really make a difference.
  11. Herb Washington was the "Designated Runner" for Charley Finley's Oakland A's in the 70's.

    Gload

During that nervous ninth inning, as that ball scooted past Konerko .... I'm wondering, "Why isn't Gload at first and Konerko DH-ing?"
  13. I have a theory about the Clrk vs. Schoney situation. Schoney has probably been letting CLark get himself out, by not giving him anything to hit. Tonight, Clark wasn't biting and the out of the zone pitches.

    Parking Help

Having a hrad time getting out of the parking lots is a good thing. That means we had a good crowd!
  15. Scott has been a pleasant surprise this year. Apparently KW and the scouting staff saw something in him that the Angels missed. I hope he can keep it up.
  16. I was on a Babe Ruth team known simply as the Sox in 71 and 72. We won the league title in 72. In 75, as a 17 year old, I was the manager of the same team. The team was picked to finish last, but we made it to the Championship Series before losing 2 games to 1.
  17. THat's the best reason I've heard yet!
  18. I was raised a Sox fan. My father became a fan in '59 and it's been Sox for me for as long as I can remember. As a tyke, I had a bulliten board over my bed that had an 8x10 of Fox and Aparicio, which was surrounded by Sox baseball cards. Then, the first time I walked into White Sox Park, as it was called at the time, sealed my fate. Sox Fan For Life! :fthecubs
  19. I generally don't agree, politically, with cwsox and Apu. But Nuke and I4E, you guys are making their case for them. You are being the perfect example of the much hated, but accurately stereotyped "arrogant American". Note rafacostas responses to some of the venom you two are spewing. I'd much rather be represented by Apu's and cwsox's portayal of an American than by what either of you two represent.
  20. When you said this, another gal is precisely who popped into my head.
  21. Really. Moronism may be contageous.
