    about frank

It certainly appears most of us die hard fans appreciate Frank, based on the poll results.
  2. As I pointed out in another thread, Jay Mariotti, of all people, actually bashed the Cub fans for trashing the field. And he even said that if it would have happened at the Cell, the Sox and their fans would have been villified. I never thought I'd say these words, but you have to give Mariotti credit.

    Uh-oh

I'm surprised they called up a lefty to face the Sox right handed dominated lineup.
  4. Considering this is a RED Sox oriented thread and not a WHITE Sox one .... "Nomar" spelled backwards is "Ramon". I can't remember when I've had so much fun.
  5. I just want to add to cwsox's assessment of the 2000 season being strange. The preseason expectations of that team were nothing to get excited about. And therefore, the early season attendance suffered. When the Sox came back from that wonderful road trip to Cleveland and New York, there was plenty of excitement surrounding the team, but I still don't think most people actually "believed". Later in the season, it became obvious the Sox were going to win the division so there were no "crucial" series to whet the fans appetite. Then you take into consideration that team was barely playing .500 ball in the second half and the pitching staff was being held together with duct tape and prayer. Sox fans knew the division was in the bag, yet most did not really think we'd be able to do anything in the then upcoming playoffs with the pitching staff crippled as it was. Then the next year, as cwsox said, we got off to such a bad start that all of the "magic" from the previous year was lost. Sox fan's had experienced the same type of thing in 1984.
  6. I could see the Sox bringing up Kelly and sending down Cotts. This would accomplish two things. First, it would keep the balance we have in the bullpen, as Cotts and Wunsch are both lefties. Also, they could start stretching out Cotts with the idea of him replacing Wright in the rotation, if Danny doesn't step it up soon. As for trading Wunsch for Bellhorn ... No thanks. Effective lefty relievers are like gold. There are usually a half a dozen or more teams in need of one at any one time. They should be able to get more for Wunsch than a career bench jockey who has already had his "career year".
  7. That's exactly what I feel too. And I'll never forget that moment went I first walked into old Comiskey as a kid ... walking up the ramp, see the field appear before my eyes. I still get goosebumps when I think about it.
  8. I've had an eye on JR's MO for 23+ years now.
  9. That was 2001. Jose's going to try and let this one heal properly so he doesn't go through the same discomfort he experienced then.
  10. I'm sure my "points" will analyzed, dissected, bashed and scrutinized. That's ok though. That's the purpose of this board and WhiteSoxCentral. Thanks for the kind words.

    Don Imus crying ...

Ah. Enjoy your morning solitude. The mood hit me to catch up on some current events as I basically ignored them over the weekend.
  12. cwsox ... I feel the same way. However, I knew you'd express it so much more eloquently than I could ever begin to do.

    Don Imus crying ...

I'm watching Don Imus on MSNCB and he is livid at Tim Russert because Russert was "rough" on Kerry during Sunday's "Meet the Press". He actually called Russert "nuts". I'm sure he feels betrayed because the liberal media (NBC is one of the worst) didn't kiss Kerry's ass. That must be a new experience for Imus.
  14. Maggs easily on this one. Colon only plays every 5th game.
  15. Here's the link: Mariotti And he concludes with this:
  16. I wrote this ARTICLE about 10 days ago. Check it out. I'd be interested in your thoughts. Thanks.
  17. If there is any way possible, I'd love a copy of that CD, cw.

    Tornadoes already?

Soxheads, that's terrible. I hope no one you know was hurt or otherwise negatively affected.
  19. I don't know about the Beetles, but Michael Jackson owns the Beatles catalogue.
  20. Nope. Rick Morrisey beat him to it.
  21. Jose was sitting for Saturday's game, and replaced during Sunday's game because of hammy trouble. EDIT: Correction. Valentin sat out Friday's game, not Saturday's.
  22. This question of whether to resign Maggs has been hashed and rehashed over and over. I guess we'll see what happens, and live with. For better or worse.

    about frank

Frank Thomas is the greatest hitter to put on a Sox uniform since Shoeless Joe Jackson. And he may be greater.
  24. It was more of a case of Mariotti's commentary changing the context of the quote. He did, in fact, use the whole quote. But, with the way he surrounded it with his "selfishness" type comments, it just wasn't right. I mean, a reporter asks a question, it gets answered honestly, but this dirtbag takes the quote and twists it to his own selfish agenda.
