Attn Larry Walker! .... Keep an eye on all your ex's!!!
-
Kevin Brown is 39 years old and owed $30 million on the remaining 2 years of his contract. No thank you. Let him keep his surly, oft-injured ass in LA.
-
Yes, that Chan Ho Park contract was a major screw up, but still ARod's deal is definitely crippling the Rangers.
-
How could Ozzie possibly have an informed opinion on Rowand yet? He's been in the NL the whole time Rowand has been in the bigs.
-
If Joe Borchard could turn things around for himself, he could be HUGE for the Sox. Question guys. All things being equal, who would you rather sign, Colon or Millwood. I believe Millwood would be less of a gamble, health wise, over the length of a long term deal.
-
How about OPS? I think that would be a fair measure.

I really hate to lose Fontaine. In fact, when the rumors of KW's demise were flying last season, I was hoping Fontaine would get the GM job. However, Kenny Williams has been a tremendous improvement, imo, over Schuler. He is the first Sox GM that I can remember that actually tries to put a winning team on the field. Granted, Kenny ain't Schurholz, but I have no complaints with him. Some things he's tried have worked, others have blown up in his face. But the fact remains is that he does try.

I agree with you Rex. Konerko will outperform Everett this season barring injury. Book it.
-
For the most part, I think the days of 4 and 5 year contracts for pitchers are history. Contract insurance costs go up significantly when the contract is longer than 3 years. And with his particular outlook on pitchers over the years, JR has actually been right about not signing them to long term deals.
-
That speaks for itself.

If we could trade Konerko and Valentin, along with whatever, to LA for Perez and Mota, there is no reason we shouldn't be players in the Kaz Matsui derby. He'd be a perfect addition to this team. Adding Matsui, Perz and Mota while losing Konerko, Valentine and even Colon, I can go for that. We'd then be able to keep and possibly extend Maggs. Buehrle, Loaiza. Perez, Garland and whoever would be a pretty damn good rotation. Crede and Matsui would really be a very tight left side of the infield, defensively. Harris and Gload would be very solid on D as well. Our outfield D would be acceptable with Lee and Maggs on the corners and either Rowand or Reed in CF. Olivo catching and we actually have a pretty damn good defensive team, with solid starting pitching and a good offense. Solidify the pen, and folks, we'd have a winner.

A good fielding firstbaseman is a very important part of the imfield defense. Not due to that one or two balls a month that an average first sacker can't get to, but for the 40 errors a year a good glove prevents on throws from the other infield positions. A good glove first baseman can turn an above average shortstop into a gold glover. Also helps keep runners off the bases and a pitcher's pitch count down.

Maddux started out 0-3 with a 10+ ERA. From that point on, he was 16-8 with an ERA about 3.32 iirc. Those are very Maddux like numbers and I'd be THRILLED to see him in a Sox uni.
-
Why in the hell would we trade Maggs for Matsui when we can get aggresive and just sign him as a free agent?
-
Considering Boston has finished 2nd to the Yankees 6 years in a row, what choice do they have but to try and compete at the Yankees level?
-
That paragraph was taken from the article linked above. It seems to me that the key phrase is "Johnson would definitely have to be part of the deal. I'm reading this as the Expos are wanting Rivera included, along with others, and that Yanks are trying to put together a package that will allow them to keep Rivera. I don't see this as a Johnson/Rivera for Vasquez deal.
-
The Sox simply cannot come out of the box so lethargic this year. They have to come out hitting, pitching and hustling. For once, there will be some excitement building around the team when the kids get out of school and maybe some of them will actually talk their dads into taking them to USCell to see a game or two. They screw up any chance they have of having a banner year attendance-wise by stumbling out of the gate every year.
-
Considering we sign Flash as a free agent and he was a great big question mark when we did, a supplemental first rounder and a 3rd round pick is not a bad return, imho.
-
You are correct. If it's a top 15 pick, we would receive the D-Rays 2nd round pick. Knowing that is the case, they'll wait until after 12/7 to make any offer to Everett. They won't be so intmidated by the signing bonus a 2nd round pick would command. So, the Sox won't offer Everett arbitration and we will lose him without getting anything in return for him. Typical.
-
Take every possible deal you hear about as a rumor. There are so many more rumors than actual deals. For example, we know KW has been talking to LA about moving Konerko, but will that deal ever go down? We'll only know when it actually does.
-
This is definitely a good gamble on KW's part. Uribe's upside is much greater than Miles. I think Miles will have some success and Uribe may just flop though. Miles will get a shot, and as of right now a good shot, at being the Rox starting 2B.
-
Even for the White Sox, this deal doesn't figure. Trading Maggs and PK for Nomar and Damon is pretty close to dollar for dollar.
-
Isn't Kenny Rogers a free agent again? If so, it's not sure thing they'll retain him as well. I've been reading that the Twins odds of resigning Stewart are getting worse by the day.
-
Those numbers you projected for Gload are very Spiezio-like. Why not keep the cheaper guy for the same production?
-
If they think Willie Harris is the real deal that's one thing. If not, then yes, this guy would be a good pickup for us.
