I posted this point yesterday.... Most of Marte's BS were coming in to a 7th or 8th inning situation with runner's on base already. He gives up one hit and it's blown save. koch starts the 9th himself and gives up 2 walks and 2b before he gets his blown save. Look beyond the stats.
I like the idea of using Gordon and Marte interchangeably. For example, use Marte to get through the 8th inning that has acouple of LH hitters due up, and Gordon to save it in the 9th... or vice versa, depending on who is due up for the other team.
We will be taking on $42Million over 4 years in salary with Kendall. They could then trade Lee, dump his salary and get two good prospects for him. This is a very doable trade, IMO.
If we were to move Colon to SF, would that maybe open up enough salary considerations for us to then turn around and trade Carlos Lee and/or someone else to Pittsburg for Giles and the albatross of Jason Kendall's salary?
I believe Kendall is owed about $40 mil over the next four years. They'd probably give as Giles and Kendall for a bag of batting practice balls. No way we will take on Jason Kendall's contract. We wouldn't be able to move him later.
The difference in the Colon we saw today and what we have been seeing is that he threw heat. 107 out of 111 pitches were fastballs. Someone apparently had something to say to Bartolo about what he should be bringing to the mound. And it's about time, too.
Gammons said that Gonzalez could be up with the BoSox very soon. With Sauerbeck, Fossum and Embree, that would give Boston 4 lefties in the pen. That seems awfully heavily loaded to the lefty side.
