  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 08:34 AM) I'm sure that is the reason but can starting the series on a Friday night after basically a week without baseball really be good for ratings? I guarantee both teams are happy about it, they can set up their pitching rotations exactly as they wish.
  2. Props to you on running and finishing it. It seems like running a full marathon would be as rewarding an experience as a person could have, wish I could do it.
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) I was going to go to the Hawks game tonight, but my plans fell through at the last minute. Thank God. And if people want to boo tonight at the game, by all means they should. 5-0 in the 1st is simply unacceptable lack of effort. Great, so in the span of about two and a half months, i've narrowly missed going to Buehrle's perfect game (only reason I wasn't at that game is I left for vacation that day) and the biggest comeback win in Blackhawks history. fml. Awesome comeback win though obviously, and a testament to just how powerful this offense is, an offense that will of course only get better when Hossa gets healthy.
  4. If you're a fat athlete who sees his performance decline at any point, fair or not, the first thing people are going to point at is your weight. Comes with the territory.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) Iowa played bad in there home opener, but there was nothing f***ing lucky about there win over a 1-AA team. The 2nd block was only needed because Iowa f***ed up on there own like they did the entire game. That whole 2nd half Iowa was a man among boys but couldn't finish. Arkansas State, it wasn't a game. Yea the score was close but at no point in that game was Arkansas ever close to taking the lead, even though the final indicated it being closer than it was. And the Iowa-Michigan game, we were up by two scores most of the way despite spotting them 7 to start the game and blowing countless opportunities to put them away. And that was against a solid Michigan squad that can score and the first offense Iowa has played like that all season. Oh and did I mention how Iowa can't ever f***ing beat Michigan...Michigan has won like 6 of there last 7 in Iowa City for pete sake. So ya, I'll take that. If you need two blocked field goals in a row to beat a 1-AA team, it's lucky. Hell, if you need that to beat ANYBODY, it's luck. And you can't defend a 3 point home win against Arkansas State if you are supposed to be a good team in the Big 10. And of the 6 of the previous 7 Michigan had won at Iowa, Iowa's players only played in one (or none) of those games, so that's not relevant. 6-0 is 6-0, but Iowa is doing a great job taking advantage of a bad Big 10 and a bad out of conference schedule. The only game they've won so far that a person wouldn't expect them to is at Penn State. The TE Iowa is trying to take from Illinois (I won't attempt to spell his last name) is probably going to end up at Iowa, but I think he would have anyways. Illinois will lose a lot of recruits due to their season, but I don't think their eventual loss of him will have to do with it. He just wants to go to Iowa like a lot of big white guys from the suburbs since Iowa is a lot like where they live. Iowa, both as a school and athletic department, wouldn't survive without kids from Illinois to keep them afloat.

  7. These are CLEARLY the two best teams in the American League, and anytime the CS has the two best teams, I think it's a good thing. Should be a great series, and although I don't really have a great deal of animosity for either side, I'd probably rather see the Angels win just because the panic that a Yankees loss would cause is something I could laugh at.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) Twins have been playing some awfully dumb baseball. I think it's pretty clear they are pressing. It could be because of the big stage of the playoffs, it could be because they realize they are playing a team that is A LOT better than they are, or perhaps a combination of the two. But it's killed them because they aren't good enough to make mistakes against a team like the Yankees and survive, and these mistakes are a big reason why they are 3 outs from putting up an 0-10 record against New York this year and being swept out of the 1st round of the playoffs.
  9. QUOTE (T R U @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) Why? Lemme know when they beat one of the top teams.. People need to get off New Englands nuts, their better days are behind them now and a horrible fumble and a wide open dropped pass is separating them from 3-2 and a very deserving 1-4 Exactly. People need to understand that NFL teams can put up entire 11-5 seasons without beating anybody. That's how it is in the NFL, and that's why the NFL playoffs are so great (especially after the crap is eliminated in the 1st round).
  10. I can't decide what was the worse baserunning play, Gomez the other night getting caught off 2nd and directly costing them at least 1 run, or the Punto play which turned 1st and 3rd, 0 out into man on 1st, 1 out tonight. I know the Punto one came in perhaps the worst spot possible though, and now the Twins are 3 outs away from elimination against Rivera.
  11. Watching Boston (who I find far, far more hateable than the Yankees) blow it today was quite enjoyable. Glad those jerks are gone.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) Seriously, it's game 3 of the ALDS and the pitchers the Twins have thrown out so far are Duensing, Blackburn, and now THE Carl Pavano. How the Hell did these guys win the division with that as their starting rotation? Pavano has to be a HATED man in New York. He basically stole 4 years of 40 something (I can't remember the exact amount) million dollars from them and hardly ever pitched in the process, and now he's flummoxing them tonight after doing so twice during the regular season.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) 2008 was worse, but I get what you're saying. Frankly I think OSU finishes with at least 1 conf loss, most likely 2, so it will be another team in a bowl game reppin the B10 I think it was a worse league this year, but I admit I'm going to have a hard time ever proving that since last year, the league only won 1 bowl game, and it will be hard to do worse than that.
  14. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) I think it's time for some of the naysayers to put Denver in the conversation for best team of the year thus far. No chance in hell I'm going to do that yet. They still have a tough schedule, I still think they have a mediocre quarterback (although he was great today), and perhaps most of all, I still don't think their defense (which has carried them this season) can continue to play this well. They deserve credit for how they are playing right now though obviously.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 03:37 AM) glad we got the two points, at the game it feels like Huet will be the scapegoat Campbell was last year, just constant booing... but when Hjarlmsson(?) is on the ice is when our defense looks good Yeah I'm not sure what constantly booing either Campbell or Huet is going to do that is positive. I get why people hate either or both of them, but booing isn't going to change the fact that neither is going anywhere, and it's just going to make them feel worse. This isn't like the Milton Bradley situation was with the Cubs where you can basically run him out of town as a fanbase.
  16. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 02:20 AM) lol@ Iowa fans for rushing the field after they beat Michigan. Come on fans, your team is ranked in the top 15 and you were 8 point favorites. Plus Michigan isnt even ranked! What a joke. Haha I'm not going to hate on them for that, they always rush the field if it's anything resembling an important win. At least they show consistency in that regard.
  17. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 12:15 AM) Hopefully that shootout can be something that Huet can build on going forward. I'm not sure how much building material there was, most of his stops were due to Colorado screw ups. He had a good save, maybe two, but that's it. Still nice to get 2 points though.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) Over slept this morning so had to skip the gym. Watching Big ten Network pregame shows for the first time. Wow, they are compiling a nice roster of sideline hotties. Didn't catch the name of the brunette at the Illinois game, but dayum! Her name is Rebecca Haarlow. Melanie Collins is the queen bee of that group. In fact, she's the hottest woman working in sports I have ever seen.
  19. David Kaplan is pretty much a typical Cubs fan, and a prime example of why so many people hate the Cubs all in one. As for this series, it's really impossible to recover from what happened to the Cardinals in game 2 in a best of 5 series.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) You say you saw the OSU v Wisco game, but you made a very innaccurate statement. Wisconsin's special teams and defense were pretty good for the short time they were on the field. The kickoff team did give up a td, but their punt team was outstanding. What was the difference was the OSU defense, I still think Tolzien is looking for the license plate number of the truck that hit him. He was sacked 6 times which could have easily been double digits. As for the BCS talk, OSU has shwon they can beats USC as it took them an entire game to move the ball once, so if they had them, there's a chance they don't lose that bowl. There is a ton of great YOUNG talent in the B10 and I think its on the way back up. Look at the underclassmen QBs that are leading these teams, Tate Forcier looks like Troy Smith, but as a junior. Ahh I see, I put horrific defense on accident when I meant interceptions. My bad, because they actually were very good, and Wisconsin had the ball for like 42 minutes (never seen a team have the ball that long and not only lose, but lose by 18). I refuse to say a unit that missed two field goals (although one was like a 57 yarder, so really one field goal) and allowed a 96 yard kickoff touchdown played well though. And we'll see about the young talent in the Big 10 and being on it's way up. I suppose that's possible, but as for 2009, it's as bad as it's ever been.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) So can any Illini fans tell me about Nnanna Egwu? Looks like he just committed. The Illiniloyalty board is acting like we just landed Patrick Ewing. All I know is this guy has only been playing ball for a few years and is extremely raw. Very raw, but a ton of talent. Perfect fit for the Illini IMO because he's a guy that needs coaching and development, and Weber and his staff should be able to do that. The 2009 class for Illinois is really good, the 2010 class is even better, but the 2011 class might be the topper if done properly. As for the obligatory talk about my school part of the post since everybody else did it, NIU should rebound this year after 3 horrible seasons. We won the MAC West in 2005-2006 and Sporting News predicts we will do it again this year, which I could certainly see happening. Of course, the MAC West absolutely blows, but I'll leave that small detail out . We should have one of the, if not the best backcourt in the MAC with Jake Anderson (first team all MAC player), Xavier Silias (Colorado transfer) and Tony Nixon (true freshman). Need somebody other than Sean Kowal to step up in the frontcourt though, and our free throw shooting percentage needs to go up and turnovers need to go down. Our first two games are at Northwestern and at Illinois (wow that will be weird for me, as will be the football game there next season). I am hopeful I can get to one of them if not both.
  22. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) I'd say very doubtful. I wonder how the people who bought the rights to this game is going to make any money off of it. The game isnt on PPV and is only available at a handful of bars according to the national team website. The game was on channelsurfing.net, I watched a large portion of it on there in between plays of the football games. It was crappy picture quality, but it beats nothing. Anyways, USA 3, Honduras 2 is the final and the USA have officially qualified for World Cup 2010. Apparently, a Honduran player missed a penalty kick (I did not see it, which is why I say apparently, but the announcer made reference to it right after the game went final). I would not want to be that guy.
  23. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 10:49 PM) That sucks Michigan had 5 turnovers, but only lost by 2. It's a young team that should be better next year, and the year after. Seeing every game Iowa has played so far, they are a very solid team, but I'm not overly impressed with them. They seem to play at the level of their opponent. This shouldn't have been a 2 point game after forcing 5 turnovers (granted the last turnover was to end the game.) They were awesome against Penn State but they barely beat Northern Iowa and Arkansas State. That being said, they still win games while not playing their best football. They need to improve their consistancy. Iowa was helped by the elements in each of their last two wins over Penn State. That doesn't make the wins any less relevant since both teams were playing in it and because Iowa has owned Penn State for years now, but in both cases, crappy weather really turned the game to Iowa's style as they are built to win in the crappy conditions. The question I have is why the hell was Denard Robinson in the game on that last drive?
  24. I have to agree with you Brian, you can't take away a 6-0 record from Iowa or the fact they have won all their games, but I think it's more a statement as to how absolutely horrible the Big 10 is than anything else. They played well at Iowa State (who has been better than I though they'd be, even if they are still mediocre), they did beat a Arizona team that will be in a decent to good bowl game by 10, and they took advantage of Penn State as they always do, but a miracle to beat a 1-AA team, winning by 3 over Arkansas State, and needing 5 turnovers to narrowly clip Michigan in Iowa City isn't exactly impressive. Even watching the Wisconsin at Ohio State game (I don't want to seem like I'm just picking on Iowa here), those are two of the upper echelon Big 10 teams right now and neither of them were exactly overwhelming today either (Wisconsin basically handed Ohio State and their crappy offense a win with horrific interceptions and special teams). There isn't a single Big 10 team I would consider impressive or dangerous right now, the league is a complete crapshoot. Ohio State will probably win the league though since they always seem to, get to play Iowa at home, and own Michigan, although the road game in Penn State will be tough. Then they'll lose their BCS Bowl and the league will be right back to square 1. Also, LSU was exposed tonight. Florida went into Death Valley at night, just played a field position and defense game, and still dominated and won easily. It's pretty clear that the Alabama/Florida winner in Atlanta will be in the title game again (although I think that team will be Alabama this time).
