  1. Griffey shoulda taken that 3-1 pitch. 2 errors by McDonald, wow. That is really shocking to see.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) Ehh, we're just streaky. We light up Verlander, CC, etc and get shut out by others. Depends on the guy and how the team is feeling that day. Well we've always lit up Verlander because he throws so many fastballs, and we can hit a fastball if we know it's coming. The C.C. thing was unexplainable, we couldn't touch him until this year, where we had great success against him. It is true that most teams hit bad pitching and can't hit good pitching, but it seems especially true with us.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) I really think AJ did that on his own. Me too, it almost looked like he was trying to bunt for a hit, as crazy as that sounds.
  4. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) When was the last time we got a hit with RISP? Early Saturday? Just not a good time to be struggling with the bats. For the most part, we CRUSH average and mediocre pitching and are dominated by good pitching. There are exceptions (Saturday against Lackey, for example), but usually, that is how it works.
  5. Burnett has 98 pitches through 6 innings. They have a very good bullpen IIRC, but I'd rather see anybody than Burnett right now.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Some polls aren't important. However, THIS one is... None of those people have votes, so that poll is REALLY not relevant. Important perhaps if you find what the rest of the world thinks to matter, but really irrelevant in the sense it gives no picture as to who is going to win. I think it would be nice if the world have a more favorable view of us, but the middle class worker in Virginia has a much better idea of what this country needs than some guy in India.
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Wow, Snider has an awful arm. He's known as an all bat, no glove guy. That was a wise send by Cox, even if it hadn't worked out.
  8. A major rally created entirely by Blue Jay mistakes. Somebody needs to make it hurt. Free run. At least we're only down one now, but we need another mistake to help us out.
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) Almost. That play should have been made. If we rally and win, I'll take the heat on that one, but we still look horrible at the plate right now.
  10. That's a play that Rolen generally makes, although I can see why it was called a hit.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) Most great pitchers lost plenty of 1-0, 2-1 games. He's referring to the poor pitch selection and allowing of three straight hits after nobody was on and 2 were out, methinks.
  12. I'm pretty convinced that A.J. Burnett is going to no hit us, especially now that he has a lead.
  13. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) Now obviously this isn't exclusive to Latin players, but I was wondering if anyone had a theory about why so many Latin players have such horrible plate discipline? There is an old saying in latin american scouting, "you don't walk off the island". Scouts down there simply don't tend to notice hitters that draw walks, because it's not sexy. They notice guys that get a lot of hits, can field, can run, and so on. I think another factor is the culture of baseball down there is just different, and the walk isn't valued as much. One more thing is you generally don't tend to see as many hulking, power hitters coming from latin america, and those kinds of guys often tend to cause more fear in pitchers and thus draw more walks.
  14. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) Hrm... polls are great when they show your candidate ahead. However, it doesn't mean anything this far ahead. It never does. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...754C0A96E948260 I don't think anybody is going to argue that polls are not nearly as important as people think, ESPECIALLY in a race where a national poll means nothing because it comes down to what happens in individual states, and not overall national popular vote. But polls themselves are often inaccurate. For instance, didn't all the exit polls have Kerry winning the election in 2004 even on election day itself?
  15. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) Still waiting for Obama to cite when he went against the Dems and fought for something his party was against, or reached across the aisle. Hard to cite an example of something that's never happened. My guess is if one of the Obamatrons sees our posts in here, they'll post some BS with some nonsense links attached as "examples", but it's realistically never happened.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) I'd just like to note that after 29 pages in this thread it would be very difficult to find a whole lot of substantive reasoning for Palin being a good selection other then political reasons to win on November 4th. EDIT: What happened to "Country First"? I can't argue with the bold, but political reasons are the only thing that candidates in either party care about. And in terms of that, Palin (along with the convention) has given McCain a significant boost in the polls.
  17. QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Iam excited about Marcus Harrison with the Bears. He doesnt look to have fundamentally sound technique, but he is a monster when that ball is snapped. That is exactly why I'm so excited about him. He's just a giant and very quick for a man his size. His one weakness is his technique is very raw, but that is teachable and if he can figure that out, he's going to be a very good player. As for Vince Young, it sounds like that whole thing was a bit of a misunderstanding. Hopefully that is indeed the case.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 09:40 AM) I would think quite a few New Yorkers who have retired in Florida were living in NY when he was mayor. There is no question about this. They don't call Miami "the 6th borough" for nothing. During the many times I've visited down there and seen friends and such, it seems like there are as many native New Yorkers in Miami as there are natives of Miami in Miami. This is ESPECIALLY clear if you go to a sporting event down there with a New York team as the visitor, but is also clear in other ways. The one counter point to this though is there are a lot of Giuliani supporters in Florida too, and Rudy loves McCain as we all know.
  19. The track keeps getting further and further south and west. Might end up hitting Mexico at this rate.
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) Looks like we're gonna have ourselves a doubleheader. The game has been postponed. Oh for sure, and I'd be shocked if it isn't tomorrow. Forecast is for dry conditions and modest temperatures. This sucks since Monday the 22nd is our only off day left, we'll either need some great starting pitching or help from the secondary guys in the pen like Wassermann and such, if not both.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) That is the most brutal place I have ever seen a game, that includes Aprils in Chicago. For sure. Even in Miami during the summer, at least you can count on an afternoon thundershower around 4 or 5 PM to cool things off a bit. It's just oppresive, dry heat with few signs of rain in Dallas. Brutal.
  22. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) I remember the last time the Patriots lost a franchise QB to injury and plugged in a 6th round 3rd string quarterback into the mix. It turned out pretty good Point taken, but come on, the odds of that happening again are beyond low. Lightning doesn't strike twice, and that's besides the fact that they are planning to start a guy who hasn't started at QB since high school in Matt Cassel. Who knows though, maybe Kevin O'Connell is going to be a good player. I have heard lots of good things about him, but he's still a rookie and rookie QB's for the most part have their problems. I guess they are bringing in Chris Simms too, although I've never thought much of him (although he does have talent). But I just can't see them going too far this season, you can't lose a guy like Brady and recover too often. I guess it's possible they could manufacture 10 or 11 wins and give themselves a shot in that division in the best case senario, but their Super Bowl hopes are over.
  23. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) It seems that a healthy dose of the violence at the Republican Convention was organized by some University of Minnesota staff, and AFL-CIO union members! http://www.examiner.com/x-701-National-Def...rchists-for-RNC Should they be disciplined for these actions? Schools nowadays are punishing students for all sorts of things they do off-campus, including blogs and web pages. Why not teachers who promote violence, using school resources? Odds that they get fired? Anyone? I guess William Ayers isn't the only Obama supporter in the American education system that likes to create violence. /obligatory
  24. People who watch MTV AND are old enough to vote (aka, are 18 or older and out of high school) are mostly dumbasses and people who won't vote anyways. They did the same stuff four years ago for John Kerry, and it didn't work then either. Most celebrities are dumbasses too (I think we can ALL agree on that), so it's best to ignore what they think on anything important. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) And yet McCain/Palin wants the government to tell women what to do with their bodies. I'm not going to give a rebuttal for this statement, other than voting Obama/Biden is much more of a statement that you like being told to do than is voting McCain/Palin.
