THANK GOD for Profundo saving us a loss just under the wire last night. Here's to this game still mattering by the time it finishes on August 25th in Baltimore.

Carlos in the Baltimore series: 8 for 12, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 3 walks, 2 steals, 2 doubles. Rose average from .246 to .312, OBP from .380 to .454, OPS from .918 to 1.077 Now THAT is a series. He's actually a pretty decent fielder with decent speed as well, and has a very good arm. He will hit some doldrums as many do their 2nd time around the league, but this kid seems like a long term solution in LF who can be a guy that puts up an OPS in the 900's for a long time. Now I see why Kenny said "getting Carlos Quentin was one of our main priorities" this offseason.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) To think everyone laughed at me last week when I purchased Midwest Earthquake/Cougar insurance. If you plan to continue living in Elmhurst as your profile says you are from, than that insurance very likely isn't necessary to have. If you are planning to move south, even as close as central Illinois or Indiana (Champaign/Indianapolis and south especially), you start getting into a gray area/area where it might be smart to have just in case.

It's hard to interpret who did and didn't feel the quake once you get as far away as Northern Illinois. You could put two people in the same apartment at the same time and one might feel the quake and the other not feel it, it's that hard to discern in a case like this. Anyways, this is about as strong an earthquake as you can get on this fault line (Wabash Valley Zone), the fault line of more concern is the New Madrid zone in extreme SE Missouri/NE Arkansas/NW Tennessee. Odds are, that one will one day cause a quake that does major damage in St. Louis/Memphis/both.

I am aware all of our friends and wonderful Sox fans around the country are going to vote Bears/Packers and that's fine. But anybody who has lived in/grew up in Chicago or the immediate suburbs such as myself knows the answer is Cubs/Sox and it's not even anywhere near resembling close. If you can grow up in Chicagoland and be able to root for both teams, you are as Virginia Tech basketball coach Seth Greenburg would put it, "certifiably insane".

Official Recruiting Thread II
whitesoxfan101 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I have it on good authority that Krys Faber signed with DePaul today. He's a late blooming but very talented center from Los Angeles. Congrats to the Demons fans, he's a great get for the spring signing period and had interest from a ton of big time schools. -
What teams do you pledge allegiance to?

In order of importance: Sox NIU athletics Illinois athletics Bears Bulls Blackhawks -
LaTroy Hawkins was a douchebag of a person who pitched like garbage his entire time with the Cubs after dominating in Minnesota. Now part of the problem was he was wrongly being used as a closer by Baker the majority of the time, but it's hard for me to ever cry race (something I will do if I see it that way), when the parties involved in Hawkins and Baker did their jobs horribly. If your going to go in that direction, let's be fair and wonder if Sox fans were being racist when we hated Jerry Manuel so much as he was fired. That's obviously not true, but if your going to ask the question about Baker the same question has to be asked about a man who once won AL manager of the year.

Tom Verducci: Appreciate Thomas and Griffey
whitesoxfan101 replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 06:22 AM) I have a feeling that the titles and sub-titles aren't on Verducci. The stat is stated correctly in the article, FWIW. Correct. I was about to post that as I read through the thread right now, but you beat me to it. The titles and sub-titles are almost NEVER written by the person who penned the article, and thus can't be put on he or she if wrong. The fact that the stat is accurately portrayed in the article is especially a sign that Verducci had it right, the headline writer just didn't. -
Up until the second Cubs collapse under him in September of 2004, Cubs fans LOVED Baker as much as I've ever seen anybody love any manager. The fact that he was beloved for nearly half his tenure, only to see his personality fall off as his teams play fell off in the 2nd half of his tenure, tells you that it wasn't race that led to the hatred, it was performance. For once, I'll take Cubs fans side and say that their dislike of Dusty was exclusively performance based in accordance with expectations. If the Cubs collapse and miss the playoffs this year, and then go 71-91 next year, Lou won't be too popular either.

Thome's next ejection may be from 3rd in order

You have to remember how good those 90's Indians lineups were, so yeah he hit all over the order in those days. -
Strange outing for Poreda tonight. He got a tough luck loss, but had a good line: 5 innings, 6 hits, 1 run (earned), 1 walk, 5 strikeouts. The one weird thing is he didn't induce a single groundout all game (0 groundouts, 9 flyouts). McCulloch was very good tonight in a 2-1 Birmingham win over Mississippi: 6 shutout innings, allowing only 2 hits, 6 strikeouts, and a 9 groundout, 3 flyout ratio. The one downside was he had to pitch over 4 walks. Also, two relievers we got in 2007 trades continue to pitch well for Birmingham out of the pen, as John Lujan (Chris Stewart deal) and Jon Link (Mackowiak deal) threw scoreless innings. Lujan had a 1.13 ERA, Link a 1.35.

Stories like these and the fact they get media coverage are among the main reasons why so many people hate America. -
Tom Verducci: Appreciate Thomas and Griffey
whitesoxfan101 replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Agreed totally, although you can put Manny Ramirez in that same class IMO. For all of his antics, Manny is just an incredible hitter, and I've just always been a fan of all 3 guys (especially Frank obviously). Manny, Frank, and Junior are just all time greats though and (I don't think) any of them have been enhanced either. -
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,2095706.story Interesting. With as much as he struggles against lefties in general, even when he is hitting, I wouldn't exactly be against this. I would think A.J. would move up in the order with the way he's hitting.

When did black become our primary uniform?
whitesoxfan101 replied to FlaCWS's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've never been a big fan of the grays, but I love the white pinstripes. I just wish we'd wear the white pinstripes at home, the blacks on the road, and use the grays as alternates. Then again, I got into the team during the good guys wear black era, so of course i'm biased. -
If he's going to keep playing like a combination of Brooks Robinson and A-Rod like he is right now, we might want to keep Crede around. However, I think that for better or worse, this is an issue that will be taken care of after the season a la Paul Konerko in 2005.

On a side note, I just love Farmer and Stoney together. Back to the "mute the TV and put the radio on" crowd for me. -

Nice reponse to last nights dud. Well done Danks, Quentin, and defense. I'll repeat it here: The Sox have drawn at least 4 walks/hit by pitches in all but 1 win, and at least 5 walks/hit by pitches in all but 2 wins. Patience at the plate is a beautiful thing, as are free baserunners. -
QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) Stoney are Farmer are outstanding together - very lively and interesting. OTOH, Hawk and DJ almost put me to sleep last night. Is it just me, or are there way more pauses in Hawk and DJ's telecasts this year? Did they go to a Jim Rome commentary workshop or something? Luckily, 670 AM and my directv picture are in sync, so I just mute the game and put on the radio broadcast.
