  1. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) I agree and it is really nice to see them finally taking advantage of this but last night and today the offense seems to be giving away a ton of at-bats. They definitely gave away at bats last night, I just think today they've fought and battled to get 4 runs and are taking advantage of a great pitching outing. Danks officially in the books with 7.2 shutout innings as Linebrink cleans up the minor mess. Let's add on here.
  2. Second longest start for Danks in his young career, only behind an 8 inning, 1 run effort in a 3-1 win at Kansas City last June 30th. Great job by Danks today.
  3. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) This offense is looking pretty bad. The temporary implosion of the A pitcher and a defensive gaff are the only reason any runs have scored. This is a huge inning. "Temporary inplosions" aka walks are the main reason the Sox have scored most of their runs this season, and that is not a crime.
  4. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Crede is still in his early 30s. Thome will be 39 next August. Dumping Thome would also allow JD or PK to move to DH and open up a spot for Fields. For the sake of accuracy, Crede turns 30 on April 26th and Thome turns 38 on August 27th.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) Wow, Danks is only 23? It's amazing that Rich Hill is 28 and the media slobs his knob, but Danks is 5 years younger and he is nitpicked Indeed, Danks 23rd birthday is today, and Hill turned 28 five weeks ago. Hill did win 11 games and had an ERA around 4 last year to be fair, but Danks long term prospects are much better IMO now that people have seen the Rich Hill act and realize why he was never anybody in the majors until age 27.
  6. Happy Birthday Johnny Danks indeed. What a great way to celebrate #23 today for him, hopefully he has some fun and gets plastered tonight or something.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) I have 2 words for you. Carl. Everett. That is all. Well yeah, exactly. I guess my point was you hear about musicians and actors messed up opinions on life a lot more often than athletes, but it's only because athletes don't speak out as much. If athletes did speak out more, they'd be just as weird IMO and the money is the common denominator among these people.
  8. The wind kept that one in the yard, and a very nice catch by Carlos.
  9. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws I'll be there and I can't wait. The Sox have been great to us all along out here, but it's just a wonderful thing the Sox are doing for the baseball team here and especially the school having this game. Our baseball team is actually pretty good too on a lighter note, so hopefully we'll get a win. The job the Sox have done to try and help NIU since 2/14 has made me as proud as ever to be a Sox fan.
  10. QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) He missed a Home run by about 2 inches and made a play in Center maybe only 2 guys in all of baseball make. He needs at bats though, and those can't be found in Chicago right now for him. As for Fields, again, if Crede is somehow signed to a long term deal, Fields will be moved to 1st base and Konerko or Thome will be traded. The only exception to that is if somebody offers us a great deal for Fields obviously. It's not really all that hard to figure out.
  11. Crede has had some dandies this year, but that might be the best play to date in 2008 for him. Wow.
  12. The White Sox have drawn at least 4 walks in all but one win this year (the 2-1 game in Cleveland), and at least 5 walks in all but 2 wins this season entering today. Today, we've drawn 3 walks and been hit by 2 pitches (one of each lead to the home run being of the 3 run variety) and lead 4-0 and it's still only the 5th. Home runs and pitching are key, but so is being able to reach base without getting a hit sometimes.
  13. Good to see 3 significant (and perhaps 2 of the most significant) pitchers in our farm system off to good starts, hopefully they keep it up tonight. As for McCulloch, oy vey.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 09:14 AM) It seems interesting to me that we often don't hear about the political and societal views of major celebs (movies, TV, music types), but then when they do, they often end up sounding like whackos. I wonder if that life makes them so insulated from reality that they lose their grip on perspective and common sense. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just think having that much money has an effect on some people. If you went around asking athletes their opinions on politics and society, I bet you'd hear some weird stuff from them too. That's the best I can do, because it seems like a lot of the whack jobs come from hollywood, music, and sports, and tens of millions of dollars are the one common denominator among them.
  15. http://niuhuskies.cstv.com/genrel/041508aae.html He has a pretty impressive resume and was recently runner up for the AD job at Miami. The senior associate AD from UCLA finished in the runner up spot for our job, so I guess the candidates were pretty impressive. Compher has spent the last few years at Washington and has been in a few other places before that (most noteably, he did some great things as the AD at Western Carolina). Overall, it looks like a good hire on paper, and hopefully he can fill the large shoes left by Jim Phillips.
  16. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) Wasn't sure if they were going to give Jordan the scholarship...not like he needs it or anything. And I thought Meacham already was on scholarship? Meacham hasn't been on scholarship, but they have had that one spot open for this season only and I'd be shocked if Meacham doesn't get it with the season he had last year and the fact he's going to be a senior. There are no plans to get Jeff on scholarship that I am aware of. As for Rodney's spot.......they'll probably have to eat that one for this season unfortunately.
  17. Great, more boring defensive coaches. The league is heading in the complete opposite direction of that, and the Bulls need to get out of the stone ages. The team has to rebuild anyways, might as well try and move into the 21st century, because it's getting increasingly difficult to try and win 88-83 in this league with every passing year.
  18. People are seeming to forget that although it was shocking to see Jim react like that, he did go pretty crazy. Anyways, he needs the day off regardless and Ozzie said he was getting one so this works out fine.
  19. I agree with her that gangsta rap was just a mythical ploy to get black people to kill each other. Problem is, that wasn't something caused or aided at all by the government or media, it was caused by the gangs themselves and people like Suge Knight that ran the industry in the 90's. I have always been a big fan of hers, and I'm both shocked that this has escaped mention this long and disappointed to hear she is into AK-47 chains and playing the silly blame game.
  20. Since you imply that you live in the southland, I'd go with flash and suggest the bars along Oak Park Ave. in Tinley Park. Plenty of good times to be had in that hood, and the metra can avoid the driving dilemma after a night of fun.
  21. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) Right now, the NBA product is atrocious. Zero fundamentals. Huge verticals are nice but nobody being able to hit a jump shot or play D is annoying to watch. Time in college won't help this problem though. Amateur basketball is all about height, wingspan, athletic ability, and AAU ball right now, none of which is condusive to fundementals. The days of fundemental basketball are gone and not coming back. Now, as for the question at hand, the system now blows. To have a one year age limit maks a mockery of the "student athlete" and education system, even more than football does (and football makes a joke of it despite you having to stay at least THREE years). The rule should be you have to stay at least 2 years, at least that is of some relevance in terms of time frame. As for the age limit, I'm not sure. You can say you are denying kids employment and all that, but the NFL gets away with it, and that's besides the point that lots of jobs require college education/experience before you can get them. If you put a gun to my head though, I'd say there should be no age limit because if somebody thinks the kid is good enough, he should be allowed to play. Not to mention the fact that this system isn't about protecting the kids like the NBA claims, it's about money and having a better product and f*** it if some kids get hurt.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) Between that stache and his legendary secondary lead, it has all the makings of a great statue. I was just going to say, the "pose" on the statue should be him with a huge lead off of 1st base, ready to somehow score on a 1 out gapper by Herbert Perry.
  23. Nutty Bulls game tonight, it was 81-71 Bulls at the half so the 151-135 final was a slight decrease in 2nd half pace. That win might put them ahead of Charlotte in record though. On a side note, I hadn't got to posting this, but a friend of mine and I saw Chris Duhon at a bar downtown at 3:30 in the morning on Saturday (it'd be 3:30 am Sunday at that point, but you see what I mean). I was just laughing, some people never learn.
  24. I can contribute to this thread too. Swisher was incredible tonight, if it's anything but freezing cold tonight he's 3 for 3 with a walk and the game tying homer. Defense was outstanding tonight, and the only reason we stayed close and kept their run total below about 5. Boone did a GREAT job to give us a chance late in cleaning up a nasty 1st and 2nd 0 out mess. Dotel looked pretty good.
  25. Vintage 2007 Sox plate approach tonight. 1 walk drawn in 7 innings against some soft tossing lefty that walked 5 in 6 innings last time out. Tons of pop ups, including two with 2-0 counts and men on base (Crede and Konerko). 2 runners picked off 1st because they were not paying attention. It's one thing to lose, but lack of concentration was our doom tonight at the dish. Also, Thome needs a day off. We face a couple more lefties this week and he needs to sit at least against one of them, because he is lost right now. He will bounce back, but he's killing us right now and needs a day or two.
