QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) 2 hours after first pitch, Sawks and Yanks are in the top of the 4th. Yikes. Ended up taking them two and a half hours to finish up half of the game (4 and a half innings). Dice-K had to throw 116 pitches to get through 5 innings, gave up 4 runs, 5 hits, and 6 walks, yet somehow he's the guy in line to get the win and has a 3 run lead. The Yank pitchers also have 6 walks though, and thus they trail. Brutal.

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 08:08 PM) And the bullpen as a whole has been pretty good for us so far, so I can see why they really don't want to make any changes yet or anything. I know what your saying, but we've got a guy in AAA that is definitely better than two of our major league pitchers and that isn't right, especially with MacDougal having an option left (and I know he has a 3 ERA, but he's allowed 6 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings so that won't last at this rate). And on topic, good to see Shirek off to a good start, a lot of people were high on him as a steal pick.

I know we're doing well, but there is on excuse for us to have Wassermann in AAA instead of MacDougal or Masset. Having 2 relievers on your MLB roster that aren't as good as your best guy in the minors goes against the "win and win now" attitude KW supposedly has. I can understand the Fields thing right now since at least we have legit ballers at 1B/3B/DH, but our already strong bullpen could be even better if we had the right person as the last guy in it.
-
He's hitting .286 after today with a .696 OPS, and he's a career .280 hitter and .750 OPS guy so i'm not sure where the idea he's on a hot start is coming from. He also is a poor fielder, doesn't steal bases, and has no power. He's a decent pickup for the Cubs since they have nothing in CF, but we're not missing out on a lot here.
-
If Soto and Fukudome aren't good, their offense will be bad. Soto has a 7 year OPS of .780 in the minors and isn't a great fielder, and you can go ahead and like Mark DeRosa, but he's just a guy. And you think they will be better than average on offense in CF? They just aren't all that good, they are going to have to rely on injuries from Milwaukee to win that division. Now that's more than possible, but when you need that to even get to the playoffs, you aren't a very scary team.

QUOTE (CWSGuy406 @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) That's just looking at things through black-and-white shaded specs. Their offense will be one of the best in the NL and they have the makings of a great bullpen. Their rotation may be a bit shaky but again, what team in the NL doesn't have holes? They'll have one of the best offenses in the NL? They start Mark DeRosa, Pie/Reed Johnson, and Ryan Theriot and are relying on totally unproven guys like Fukodome and Soto to put up big years. Their offense is average, their rotation is average, and their closer is made of glass (plus, Howry is falling apart). They'll be in the race, but the NL is quite a bit better this year (still not good or near AL standards, but better) and so is Milwaukee. I honestly think they aren't going to play in October, although they'll admittedly be close since they are in the NL and a team that isn't very good can still win in the mid to upper 80's.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) Utley misses a game tying homer by a foot, and the Phillies eventually lose. Cubs are playing just awful right now, and somehow still have a winning record. They just aren't very good, I'm not all that worried. The best team in that division won again today and their closer is starting to calm down. Phillies deserved to lose though, couldn't score in the bottom of the 10th off a pitcher who is currently awful, and Utley hurried an easy throw against a slow runner.

Hooray everybody, Detroit sucks. Not a bad first two weeks.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) well, yr not wrong, but cant it just be that he blossomed late, figured it out at age 27 (like so many players) and then got hurt at age 28 ? It's possible, just guys don't wait that long to develop normally. We'll know a lot more by the end of this year, but Crede is off to a great start and we all know about his defense already. -

Even if we keep Crede, the only thing that means is Fields is moving to 1st base and Thome/Konerko are on the block. -

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) exactly. everyone had this partial amnesia where they forgot Crede's '06. Hey, I hope I'm wrong and 2006 is what Crede really is as a hitter. The numbers just disagree with that thought. The numbers don't disagree however with the fact that he is money with the bases loaded/in the clutch. -

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 13, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) LOL, they scored it an infield single to shortstop on ESPN gameday It has to be scored that way, the ball was not touched or close to touched by anybody. There we go! -
