NBA Ref Fixes Games for the Mob
whitesoxfan101 replied to vandy125's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
This is about the least surprising news of the year, anybody who watched NBA games over the years and didn't think some of them were fixed is watching with 2 eyes closed. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) And those sources have never led you down the wrong path...cmon 101 Only on Eric Gordon, and he lied to everybody so I don't count that incident. -
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 05:32 PM) Within division trade is hard to believe. This is the team that gave up coming off an all star year Felipe Lopez AND Austin Kearns for Gary Majewski (hurt/league average reliever when not hurt) and Bill Bray (hurt reliever who isn't that great anyways). So yeah, they'd do it.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) Rumor has it that the Brewers are this/close to getting Dunn. That is correct, and I doubt her source is redzone. This deal is such a bad kept secret right now it's crazy. It sounds like somebody from southwest Ohio was glad to let this leak in the hopes from the Reds point of view somebody would panic and call with a better offer last second. And I doubt the hot infield prospect is Braun, he's beyond a prospect at this point.

The existance of "roid rage" is a HUGE myth, almost beyond a myth at this point. The problem with steroids and the violent crimes people on them sometimes commit and all that is the vast majority of people who use steroids also are on multiple other perscription or non-perscription drugs, both legal and illegal, as well as other things like alcohol. This is a subject I have done a lot of study on, and it seems pretty obvious that the mix of certain drugs WITH steroids can cause an enhancement and more voliatle problem for a person mentally, which would make them more inclined to do something crazy, but the basic idea of generic "roid rage" is absolute myth, right about there with "hide under a bridge during a tornado" on the 'stupid myths that tons of people somehow still believe' scale.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:31 PM) who exactly is your team anyway? you seem to have a pretty good hard-on for illinois, but i'm curious who earns your support. anyhow, i disagree on richmond. i still think he'll end up at illinois (i do agree he will re-open at some point) and i still think weber will be the coach at that point. talk of him being fired at this point is just not reality. anyone who has followed the way guenther and his bosses do business know that weber will have a long leash. for him to get fired he's first going to have to post a losing season, and despite the negatives in recruiting i don't see that happening this year or next. that gets you to 2010. but in terms of what happened this week, i just have to shake my head at weber. i really get tired of the excuse-making that comes from weber's most ardent supporters because it is nothing but silly and bitter chatter from people who don't know a whole helluva lot. losing humphrey doesn't bother me because i was never impressed with his game. dunigan hurts, though, and shumpert definitely hurts. now i will acknowledge there are opportunities out there to still have a pretty strong class. i just have no faith it is actually going to happen. Just for the record, your right about Guenther and his slow trigger finger. I think the reason Bruce might be gone by November of 2009 is just as much off the court as it is on it. Although by what I'm told, the kids coming in for the 2007 are not only his best recruiting class in terms of basketball, but also probably the best people personally he's brought in, so hopefully the off the court stuff starts going away. But when you consider Jamar at worst is going to be "suspended" next season (and still be in school and just take a redshirt athletically), I don't see why anybody would respect or take Bruce's disciplinary process seriously. But your right in the sense that Bruce won't be fired that fast for the certain impending problems on the court, but if the off the court stuff continues to combine with that, he has a imminent problem. Oh, and if Richmond re-opens his recruitment, he's gone for good from U of I. That would mean Bruce would have to lock down a top stud national recruit late in the game, and we know he can't do that already. -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) Shumpert did not drop Illinois for the record. The Sun-Times dropped the story after their guy failed to correctly read another article on how 5 schools were watching his progress at the Peach Jam. I can personally tell you with 110 percent certainty that Shumpert dropped Illinois the day UNC called and offered him. Now that isn't necessarily Bruce's fault, it sounds like UNC is his actual dream school, not Clemson as I've heard some people say, but Shumpert is not coming to Champaign. And if he gives any hints he is, I am going to lose some respect for Shumpert since by all accounts he's a better person than to do something like that and lead a school on. But yeah, Shumpert is gone already, no chance he comes here. I wish I were wrong, but college sports and recruiting are the one thing I actually know what I'm talking about and have sources in. -

The fact it became official (and yes, regardless of what the merrymen are saying on the IB, Shumpert is gone) that 3 top recruiting targets in state are gone is just pathetic (oh, and Bradley is in Shumpert's final 5 but not Illinois, LMAO). I have said for a while now that it's too late in the game to have 0 2008 verbals and that this class had disaster written all over it, and that seems to be the case. And of course Richmond probably won't end up at Illinois, he can't sign until November of 2009 and I have doubts as to if Weber will even be our coach then, and if he is, his recruiting will have more than haunted the program by then. Everybody points to Weber's record, but he can't recruit, he's lost control of his actual players off the court, and the record on the court will begin to reflect the record in the recruiting game VERY soon. Always works that way in college sports. It's sad to see how fast Bruce has done this to the program. -

Mike Conley reminds me so much of T.J. Ford coming out of Texas (well, the lefty version) that it's not even funny. -
Bulls and Joe Smith Agree to 2 yr Deal

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 01:02 AM) Darko was by far the best option. I've already stated my case as to why Moore is a fluke. He is a solid player on both ends, but you know what you're getting with Smith. I still would have have much rather had Darko or Scola. Could the Bulls have even afforded Darko though? The MLE is 4.35 IIRC and Darko got 3/21. If they could have had him though, your right he is the best option. And I'm not a huge Scola fan, but that's just my opinion. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 09:37 PM) Brian Sabean's incompetent ass got an extension today. What a joke. That's amazing. All he does is build amazingly old teams, and also made THE worst baseball trade I've ever seen, yet he gets an extension and all I hear from talking heads in the media is how good a job he does. Must have a lot of pictures of a lot of people in compromising situations.

Bulls and Joe Smith Agree to 2 yr Deal
whitesoxfan101 replied to SoxFan1's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Not a bad deal. Moore was probably the best option, but I'd think he will sign for more than the MLE, so that kinda eliminates him actually. Smith is a little bit better and more athletic than P.J., so i'd consider it a mild upgrade in that regard. -
Egbert's combined numbers in his last 5 starts: 32 IP, 21 hits, 4 ER, 7 walks, 44 k's DAMN!!! And for the season: Egbert: 2.64 ERA, 116 IP, 92 hits, 29 BB, 114 K, .218 BAA, 1.91 GO/AO, 2 HR DLS: 2.67 ERA, 87.2 IP, 45 hits, 32 BB, 108 K, .152 BAA, 5 HR Gio: 3.10 ERA, 95.2 IP, 80 hits, 36 BB, 115 K, .229 BAA, 1.50 GO/AO That's pretty good right there, kids. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 08:11 PM) I give DLS three more starts before he overtakes Gonzalez for organizational lead in strikeouts. Egbert is ahead of DLS and only 1 behind Gio right now.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) By the way, who do you want to lead off? Mackowiak is by far the best option right now, although with the lefty on the bump tonight that wouldn't be so easy to do. Buehrle 6-5 with a 2.95 ERA?? What an embarassment that an AL pitcher can have a sub 3 ERA and be 6-5. Pathetic. -
Somebody needs to find a way to get video of Greg Walker in a bikini at Craig Stebek's house. 8th time we've been shutout this year, and 12th time in our last 125 games going back to last August (once every 10 games or so).

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 12:10 PM) Anyone catch the piece on Rick Ankiel on SC last night? Apparently the guy is playing lights out in the minors.....as a center fielder. Good luck to him. I have no idea why they haven't called up Ankiel yet. He's 2nd in the entire minor leagues in home runs, has an OPS near 900, and at age 28 it's now or never for him. Plus, the Cardinals need help in terms of bats.
-
He still hasn't pitched since late June, all emails, google searches, and otherwise have turned up nothing, and it wasn't a promotion. It's obvious he's injured, I'm just curious what is wrong.
-
Worst bullpen I have ever seen. Nice win and all, but we're shooting for a ceiling of 4th place at the rate our pen works.
-
I'm not going to link any articles since no matter what ones I link, they will have a biased slant, so just watch the video for yourself: You can say whatever you want about the bias and motivation of this video, but the facts in it are damning to the point where I think this will be the thing that ends Rudy's run for the Oval Office in terms of a chance to win.

The last 2 years have made me hate all grinders, so no thanks. I would prefer a guy talented enough to not be called a "grinder".

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 03:31 PM) On that note...Matt Humphrey and Michael Dunigan are strongly rumored to be headed to Oregon and UNC has offered Iman Shumpert. Illinois is giong to have to leave the state to find a big in this class in that case, and if the miss on the big prize of Terrence Jennings, I have no idea what big they will get in this class. I think Scott Suggs and Paul Williams are 2 very distinct possibilities. I really hope they get Jennings, that fills the star of the class and the big, but if not I have no idea who the big or 3rd guy is, and pickings are starting to get slim overall. What a shocker though in regards to a Bruce class, it's getting late to have no verbals. -
Pujols calls out LaRussa for not playing him
whitesoxfan101 replied to RME JICO's topic in The Diamond Club
His logic made sense with Hudson up, but he lost all credability with the bases loaded. The only way that game does not end there, either via a hit or out, is a wild pitch, infielder kicking a hard hit ball but not having it go very far away, an infield hit, or a walk. And even in those senarios, there is still a chance for the next batter to win it, and those senarios are unlikely. To not hit Pujols for Rowand is so dumb that I'd think Pujols was trying to get his old buddy Leyland home field for the World Series or something. None of it should have mattered though, D Lee OBVIOUSLY swung at the 3-2 pitch from K-Rod.
