  1. I think people are really just looking for reasons to be upset in some of these threads, because I just don't see how anybody can't be excited about our prospects next season after the offseason we've had. The health of Peavy is a concern, but besides that, we're in good position for 2011 IMO, and this is another move that will help.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 10:06 AM) What the hell? Just who are the Nets going to give up then? Half their roster? Well I have read there is a Carmelo trade discussion involving "17 players and multiple draft picks". So maybe.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 07:46 AM) Hunter was great at some things (diving catches, clearing the wall) but I recall hearing Twins fans say that he was overrated; he didn't set up the position well or get good jumps. He made up for the lack of good jumps with spectacular finishes. Ehh we saw a lot of him during his Twins days obviously, and I really don't agree with the Twins fans assesment at all. I think that is much better applied to Jim Edmonds, as others have pointed out.
  4. It's a pretty good move for the Cubs, but their problem is they said they are rebuilding, but are making moves that suggest otherwise. The reason that's a problem is they aren't going to be competitive in that division, and seem stuck in between right now. The Reds aren't going to get any worse, neither are the Cardinals, and the Brewers have had a better offseason. The Garza move isn't going to do much for them in 2011, but could be helpful in the long run if the Cubs can keep him around because he is a good pitcher. He's a bit of a head case though and isn't the best clubhouse guy, and I'm surprised the Cubs would trade for a starter like that when Zambrano is still around.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) Holy s***! I thought you were kidding. I've become a big proponent of UZR the last couple years. But in this case UZR is going to have to kiss my f***ing black ass. Alomar is the best defensive second baseman I've ever seen. Baseball Reference's defensive stats also paint Alomar's D in a negative light. Oh, well, they can kiss my ass, too. Yeah, I believe defensive metrics also point to Torii Hunter during his prime days in Minnesota as being a below average defender, which I don't get. But the Roberto Alomar defensive stats are truly baffling. I think Tim Raines is a borderline yes, but I can see why he isn't in. His vote should be closer to 75 percent though IMO. I think Larkin is a pretty good bet to get in next year since he's in the low 60's this year and the 1st year guys next year suck. It'll be interesting to see what percentage Jack Morris gets as well. I think Morris is a borderline no and Blyleven a borderline yes, but I can see Morris getting in now that Blyleven is. It'll also be very interesting to see what percentage Bernie Williams gets. He's clearly the cream of the crop of the 1st year guys (admittedly not saying much) and obviously he played on the big stage being on the Yankees and in many playoff games.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) Its on ESPN3.com if you have that. And yea, losing your top scorer and top 3 point threat in the Big 12 hurts. Jake Anderson just went down too. It appears so. Our basketball team is AWFUL and will almost guaranteed be firing it's coach after the season. I thought you'd win by 35 tonight.
  7. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...=dw-pryor010311 To say this story paints Ohio State in an unfavorable light would be a vast understatement.
  8. Well I have thought all along that TCU lost the Fiesta Bowl to Boise State because they were heartbroken with the way Championship Sunday went (Texas and especially Cincinnati looked like they were going to lose, but instead both won and TCU just got to play another mid major in their BCS Bowl) and didn't really show up. Today didn't do a lot to take that thought out of my head, because although Wisconsin did have some critical mistakes today, TCU still beat an outstanding BCS team today in a neutral setting. People do need to drop the "this proves blah blah blah" crap. Nobody realistically would say that a team like TCU or Boise State can't win in one game scenarios, it's already been proven they can by Utah vs. Alabama in the Sugar Bowl (and in pretty dominating fashion), Boise State against Va. Tech in DC earlier this year, Boise State against OU in the Fiesta Bowl (although that OU team they beat wasn't nearly as good as the aforementioned Alabama and Va. Tech teams, or the Wisconsin team TCU beat today), and so on. The question is does a team like that deserve to play for the title despite playing in a vastly inferior conference. I think the argument is different for 2010 TCU and say 2008 Utah than it is Boise State teams though, because the Mountain West is a better conference than the WAC and quite frankly, TCU and Utah that year have better players and more depth than Boise State. This argument is kind of silly now anyways though with Utah going to the Pac 12, and TCU gone to the Big East after next season. Boise State will still be the awesome team in the garbage conference, but TCU and Utah will be removed from the debate. I'm not sure how Boise State will ever get to the title game quite frankly, next year might be their only chance with their one conference shot vs. TCU (on the road IIRC) and games vs. Georgia in Atlanta and at home against Nevada, among others. They actually have a pretty good schedule next year, which means they'll probably lose a couple.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jan 1, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) Good luck with that argument here. Everything is Ozzie's fault no matter what, its such a lazy argument. And then there are people who never blame Ozzie for anything and just point to the players no matter what, who are just as stupid and wasteful of time, if not moreso. I think it's pretty obvious 2011is make or break for Ozzie. The relationship between him and the organization is at the point where he has to win, or else keeping him around is pointless in their eyes. They can keep saying how relationships have been patched up, but you're only a bad few weeks away from that all going out the window.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 04:28 AM) Does anybody doubt for a second that Ozzie would've been fired by now if not for 2005? Oh I think he'd have been gone after 2007 had 2005 not happened. I also think he'll be gone after 2011 if this team doesn't make the playoffs though.
  11. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) No f***ing kidding, I'm still waiting for Green Bay to catch a break this year. Injuries were really the only potential setback keeping us from a 1 or 2 seed. You just got one since there is now about a 99.8 percent chance your must win game Sunday will be meaningless for the opponent. You've also got a few important questionable calls that have gone your way from the officials in games this season. But I'll ignore that, because obviously you're not 9-6 and fighting for a wild card because you can't run the ball, took 18 penalties in a key game against the team that won your division, and have losses to 5-10 Detroit, 7-8 Miami, and 6-9 Washington. You're 9-6 because of injuries, mystique and voodoo, God liking the Bears more, and so on.
  12. Not surprised at the comments by Jenks or Oney when you consider the sources. Also not surprised to hear Jenks may have had some drinking and marital issues come up last year. Finally, I'm not surprised that Jenks had thoughts of starting. He has had some MAJOR issues in recent years simply sticking to his two best pitches like a reliever should. He tended to screw around with 4 pitches instead, and it hurt him IMO.
  13. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 12:13 AM) Yeah how do you look at it for two and a half minutes and say it was conclusive? It's whatever, if Gabbert doesn't make that dumb throw they win by two scores. Of course, there was also a hold on the pick six. So many ways Mizzou should have won. They are so much better than Iowa, oh well. That goes in the category of 'only Mizzou loses a game like that.' It's games like that which are why it's so hard to win the confidence pool, and they happen every year. I don't see how any non Iowa fan could have done anything other than put 20 some odd points on Mizzou.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 12:10 AM) That was the definition of inconclusive evidence on that call. I can't believe it was overturned. Yeah that was a brutal overturn. Mizzou should be ashamed though. Get a slumping 7-5 team that had a miserable failure of a season and numerous off the field distractions as your opponent, and find a way to lose even though said opponent has made a living losing games just like that all season.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 09:23 PM) Not officially, no, but it still does not reflect well on the organization when that sort of information continually becomes public. Well as long as Ozzie Guillen is the manager, these sort of things will happen.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) Yeah, we're going to play the winner of the Eagles-Packers/Giants/Bucs game most likely. If the Eagles win, Bears get them. If not, they'd get the NFC West-Saints winner. This all is assuming Atlanta beats Carolina at home of course.
  17. The Iowa pass defense is being absolutely ripped to shreds tonight. Their offense better turn it on in the 4th quarter.
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) This is the Blaine Gabbert I remember and have a mancrush on and want to go pro... He's going to be a very good pro. IMO he's the 2nd most likely QB to be a very good pro in this draft after Luck (assuming he goes), although I really like Mallet too, and could even see Newton and Locker do well at the next level.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) Barring a shocker, Bears will be playing the winner of the New Orleans vs Philly playoff game. New Orleans is going to play the NFC West winner.....barring a shocker of course.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 10:43 PM) The Bears have already locked up the #2 seed. All they have left to play for is the #1 seed, but again, Carolina has to beat ATL and TB has to beat NO for that to happen, and both those games are at noon. Either way, I'm kinda bummed we're going to allow the Packers to waltz into the playoffs. I'm bummed about it because the Packers and their fans have REALLY got on my nerves this year with their overinflated sense of the worth of their team. I'm more bummed about it because as much as the Packers have been overrated all year, they are still dangerous. Although like I said, if the Bears end up the #2 and not the #1 (which is almost a lock), they couldn't play until the NFC Title game anyways and such a scenario would mean the Bears would be at home in that game, which isn't exactly a bad thing.
  21. I am absolutely fascinated by and looking forward to seeing what the Bulls will do in the playoffs with what should be a healthy and used to playing together team. I just struggle with what to expect from this bunch, but am enjoying their play so far. Also interested to see if any moves are made before the trade deadline.
  22. I'm not the biggest fan of playing the backups when you have a bye week anyways, since it basically means two weeks off and can lead to rust. I'd also like to see the Bears stick it up the Packers' ass and keep them out of the playoffs since not only are they a hateable bunch, but also a very dangerous team. However, past evidence tells us that assuming the Bears are locked into the #2 seed by gametime (and they almost guaranteed will be with Atlanta hosting Carolina), they'll probably go into operation shutdown and roll out the red carpet for the Packers playoff train. Which likely won't come back to haunt them since if the Bears are the #2, they couldn't play Green Bay until the NFC Title game anyways. But you never know. Either way, having the bye is huge, the Bears really needed it to be a legit Super Bowl threat IMO.
  23. I like Kirk Herbstreit saying this will be "addition by subtraction for 2011" for the Buckeyes. Be careful Herbie, that much spin can make you very dizzy. As for the story itself, not surprising. Pryor has struck me as a very unintelligent guy going back to his recruiting, and for him to get into a situation like this couldn't surprise me less. I can't speak much to the other players lost other than obviously they are very important players outside of the backup d lineman. I can see why Ohio State fans are mad they got a hefty punishment of 5 games, but the fact they aren't suspended for the bowl game is asinine. No BS NCAA logic can change how stupid that is. If they're suspended, they're suspended. Making sure they are punished, but letting them play in the important BCS game is stupid.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 08:54 AM) The fans rightfully booed management at the time, no sense in taking it out on a soldier like Chelios. Whatever, it's just mis-placed anger. No matter how many times you dismiss fans for being in their right to boo Chelios, you're still wrong.
  25. I'm still curious when top 75, 4 star recruits became nobodies. And Weber recruited those two soft big guys that "lead" the team btw.
