  1. Well we played the lefty catcher vs. the lefty pitcher Monday, the righty catcher vs. the righty pitcher Tuesday, so it'll be interesting to see what fascinating decision Ozzie makes in that regard tonight. There is no excuse for us to not win this game though. This is a game i'd put into the category of "you'd better win it if you want to make the playoffs".
  2. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) Oh I guess it was just 1-0 in the first last night. Totally forgot the sequence of scoring there. When is Ozzie going to get it through his head that it's ok to play for a goddamned 3 run homer in our park though I really don't give a s*** what the score was honestly because your point still stands either way. You don't play for 1 run against an elite offensive team in our ballpark early in the game with your best (and most powerful) hitter at the plate.
  3. Wanna know why we traded for Jackson? Last nights game showed you. As much as Freddy has given us this year, he simply cannot be completely trusted. Then again, neither can Hudson at this point in his career, and I'm not even sure we were convinced he could be trusted in 2011. So we traded for a guy with great stuff that we thought Coop could work with and get good things out of, and through 2 starts, he has. Lets hope that continues.
  4. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 10:59 AM) here's the silliest thing about running Rios (or anyone) with two outs and Konerko up: In the case of a homer, triple ,double or walk, it doesn't matter whether Rios is on second base or 1st base. The only time it matters is if Paul singles. Konerko has a combined 2518 hits+walks. He has 1402 total walks, homers, triples and doubles, and walks combined. He has 1116 singles. In other words, there's around a 60% chance if Paul reaches that it doesn't matter whether Alex is on first base or second base, and that's before you even factor in CS percentage. Secondly, why the f*** are you playing for 1 run, down 5? Dumb, dumb, dumb. If Konerko kept that first inning going longer, who knows what happens last night. Great points. Even beyond your points as well though, it's an AL game, we're facing a really good offense with one of our bottom 2 starters on the mound, and our already bandbox of a ballpark was playing even smaller than usual with the heat and humidity. Playing for one run in the first inning isn't how you beat the 2010 version of the Minnesota Twins, especially not at The Cell on a hot night.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 10:59 AM) He'd fit in nicely in Kotsay's slot on the 25 man roster. A definite upgrade. Haha I'm totally kidding, but I seriously bet that question is being raised by #13 when he meets with KW these days.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) What's the latest on Teahen? We paying him millions to hang out in Charlotte while we're in a pennant race? Where would he play?
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) People should be granted citizenship just because they are born here. People should be able to build a Mosque next to the site of the Twin Towers. (eventhough its not really next to the site) We once were a city upon a hill, where we were the model of free society. But we inch closer to being nothing more than what we allegedly despise. Everyone who is born in America, deserves to be a citizen. But then again I believe the the idea of America was to be a place where those who are persecuted, those who seek a better life, would be free to join whenever they please. I dont agree with immigration quotas, I dont agree with refusing to allow people to come to America to seek a better life. Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" I understand that people want to have advantages and not let other people immigrate here and potentially compete with them for jobs and benefits. But is that not the American way? Are we not capitalists? Do we not believe in competition and that the hardest and best working will rise to the top? To me that is America. And it actually bothers me to see that people can claim to care about freedom, equality, etc. but at the same time do everything in their power to prevent all people from having that. *applause*
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) Paul Konerko hitting a walkoff home run in game 7 of the WS for the Cubs over the Sox. After Ozzie Guillen's decision to let Mark Buehrle pitch the top of the 9th inning paid off and he threw a zero up.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) So...our sacrifice bunt %age is 79%. I'm going to remember that the next time I'm told that Juan Pierre has only a 75% shot at successfully stealing that base and the bunt is a sure thing. Great point, actually. Btw, do we know where 34 sac bunts (and 43 attempts for that matter) ranks in baseball?
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 09:51 AM) Jordan Hendry re-signed as well, appears to be 1-year, 600k Yeah that happened several days ago (I think). I'm a big fan of Hendry and Boynton being back personally.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) There are obvious complications to that as well...AJ getting caught stealing in a game may be a bad thing, but if the next guy coming up is hitting .160, then it might hurt more or less than CS at other times. I wonder how many sacrifice bunt outs we've given up That was going to be my next question, our sac bunt total and where it ranks.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 09:47 AM) The next closest for CS is 39. Not sure about the others. Yeah, so we've given away just shy of 6 innings more than any other team in baseball just on caught stealings. Pretty staggering.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 10:24 PM) This article just makes you shake your head....I can't believe he mentions the NL games as part of his justification for rotating DH. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6226876.story Ozzie has had his share of success with us obviously, but he'd just be a better NL manager because he doesn't seem to get how AL offense works. Well that, and we know he's too stubborn to admit he was wrong, so it's not surprising to see this article in that sense either. Like I said in another thread, if we lose this division by 1-3 games, it goes directly on the Thome decision, because had that no brainer been handled properly, it makes up those standings games.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 09:36 AM) According to baseball reference we have 56 caught stealing, 16 picked off, 3 picked off caught stealing, and 39 outs on base for a total of 114 outs given away. There's your rationale for getting rid of Ozzie ball. That's 4 full games, plus 2 innings (38 total) for those scoring at home and bad at math. And we still have almost 50 games left.
  15. Watching Jim Thome put up a .972 OPS for the Twins because we couldn't promise him enough at bats, while watching his primary replacement get what will likely end up being about 350 at bats and put up an OPS about .3 lower is going to be hard to top on the annoying list. I think the topper would be if we finish only 1-3 game out of first, since such a scenario means we can put losing the division almost directly on that idiotic decision. It may be a broken record, but it's true. And the reason it's a broken record is even all of us idiots around here could see that one would be disasterous.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) Hard to say it's one of the biggest disasters based on what our final record is likely to be. Based on our record vs AL teams though, it does seems like Ozzieball is not the way to go. That's because it's not. We're an AL team that plays in a bandbox, so the last thing in the world we can do is give away outs. It's especially egregious this year since our offense isn't very good, we're more than capable of making outs ourselves, let alone giving them away.
  17. Why exactly do we deserve more respect? The White Sox are a team that going in to the season, a lot of people thought would contend, but ultimately fall just a little short due to the offense. To this point, I see no reason to think that prediction wasn't correct. If the team wants more respect, go out there and beat the Twins and win the division like you did in 2008. We've lost so many races to the Twins that it's natural we'll be disrespected. As for how proud Ozzie is of the team, I understand that since they were 9 under and 9.5 back after basically the first week of June and didn't quit, but realistically this team never should have fallen into a hole that deep in the first place. And while I agree with Ozzie that the team probably deserves more support in Chicago, this team has done itself no favors in that regard because they have a lot of qualities that are pretty unlikable IMO.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) Yeah, maybe it's because I was an outfielder once and I can usually kind of tell where the ball was going, the MLB outfielders will know immediately and if they are slowly jogging to a spot (and not towards the wall) there's no reason to stand up and/or say anything whatsoever. The exception being if someone tattoos the s*** out of a ball, and you hear it, but it dies on the warning track. Yep agreed on all counts. I was an OF once too, and can just about always tell about where the ball will generally end up. Every once in a blue moon you can get a swing that fools, but like you said, look at the outfielder in that case.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) That's because you look like a terrorist. If it looks like a terrorist, and acts like a terrorist.... (Note: I'm anticipating the feds at my door anyday now. )
  20. The Hossa deal was looked into last year, but no action was taken, which is why I doubt they'd do something as drastic as vacate a title (well that, and such a move would destroy the league). But I could see penalties being levied against the Hawks with the leverage the Kovalchuk decision gives them, like a loss of draft picks. It'd be hard to void a deal like the Hossa one that already has begun though (and they'd have to void two of them in Detroit if they did), so I can't see it going that far. Maybe with the deals that haven't started yet like Luongo and Pronger you could try that, but even in that case, the deals were previously approved by the league, so that'd be really tough to change.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) The scary thing? Castro has an .862 OPS against righties this season, which is also vastly better than AJ. (it's 1.209 against lefties). Oh I definitely knew that, which is why I'll almost never say a peep when Castro plays, because no playing time is too much for him right now when you look at how he and AJ are hitting. As a matter of fact, if I had faith Ozzie would play Castro all 3 games of this series, I wouldn't say a thing about him playing tonight. But I highly doubt he'll do that.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) Garcia's on the mound, that one was expected. Yeah and I get that, but having him catch the one game in the series we face a RHP doesn't make a lot of sense. I bet AJ faces both LHP now, or at least one, and he shouldn't face either. Kotsay hitting ahead of Alexei is bizarre as well, but the logic/Kotsay ship has long since sailed. Not much Ozzie can really do with this lineup though with the way it's hitting ATM, to be fair.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) I don't know this league that well, but in any other league, admitting that a team had broke the rules and in the process won a championship by doing so tends to reflect poorly on everyone involved, including the league. Want to get at least a little nervous? Read this article: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/devils/bewa...6WIW0ufCLOEupKJ Would the NHL do this? I really doubt it, and this is probably just a sensationalist NY writer trying to get attention. But with Gary Bettman, you can never rule out much of anything.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) And now he either needs to adapt or head back down. Considering he and I are still tied in the walks category, I'm thinking option #2.
  25. Score some f***ing runs please. I have faith in our pitching, but this f***ing offense makes me want to throw up at times. Pull your weight, boys. /pregame speech
