  1. QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:40 AM) Looking back I think Reinsdorf just didn't want Kenny Williams making a rushed, emotional decision about Ozzie Guillen. Overall Ozzie is a pretty good manager and I think Reinsdorf thought this thing would get turned around and everything would work itself out. I don't think that situation completely tells that Kenny has no authority. Turns out it was a good thing not to fire Ozzie. I think if Kenny finds a way to get a left handed bat, Kotsay will be the player to go. Until Kenny finds that, we're stuck with Kotsay. Well you're right that not firing Ozzie has worked out since we're in first place. The point you make about getting a left handed bat though.....Teahen IS that left handed bat. Which is why it's asinine that Kotsay will probably stay even when Teahen is activated.
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) Ha, surprised my situation got this much response. Anyways, not that anyone gives a s*** but with out talking to her or even doing anything yet, I ended up finding out she is indeed interested. Now the fun part we'll be to see if I can handle this correctly with out f***in it up. We'll see what happens. Haha that's always the hard part. You can know she's interested, you can even have a good plan for how to handle it properly. But at the end of the day, an awesome girl with interest can make you really nervous, so it can still all go to hell somehow. Hopefully, you don't have that happen to you.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:35 AM) I don't get it. Doesn't Kenny have the authority to DFA Kotsay? He doesn't have the authority to fire Ozzie, so I don't think any of us know if he has the authority to overrule Ozzie on anything.
  4. QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:31 AM) We need Teahan back and f***ing Kotsay better be DFA. I can't handle this garbage anymore. The article in the one thread basically confirms Kotsay is staying when Teahen gets back. Kenny has to be kicking himself that he brought Kotsay back right now. It's his fault Kotsay is on the team at all, so KW deserves blame, but Ozzie deserves every bit of blame he gets for how much he's playing (I'd say the blame should be split for the fact he hasn't been/won't be DFA'd).
  5. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) I have a feeling Kotsay is going to do something HUGE either to help us clinch the division or something important in the playoffs. That usually happens where there is a lot of hatred toward a player on a successful team. He could, but odds are very high he won't because he sucks at baseball and belongs in the minor leagues. As for the lineup today, I told you guys Monday that it was a lock Kotsay would start all 4 of these games, this shouldn't be a surprise. He's such a stud against right handed pitching after all.
  6. I wish our manager wasn't such an idiot in certain regards. It would really be in the best interest of this team if Kotsay did what he usually does and suffered an injury (not wishing it on him, but it's a fact it would help the team). However, it's pretty clear that, of course, he picked this year to stay healthy.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) That's the ONLY logic of not demoting Kotsay. We are winning with him, so therefore he can't be hurting the team. (If it's not broke, don't fix it, right? In which case, KW should have kept the 2005 team together...since he completely obliterated the "chemistry" of that team by taking Everett and Rowand out of the clubhouse, too. Not saying I necessarily believe that, just the theory out there.) It's almost like they are afraid to let Teahen's glove back anywhere near the clubhouse again, also. And actually, although Viciedo's missed a lot of AAA at-bats, I think he's gained a tremendous amount of confidence in his ability to be a big league player, and this hopefully is one of those situations where sitting and observing for most of 5-6 weeks has really helped, even he's accumulated less than 70 at-bats. In regards to the bolded: Play Vizquel at 3rd everyday (with Viciedo there on Omar days off), use Teahen as the DH vs. RHP, maybe at 1B sometimes to give Paulie some rest, maybe even RF at times so you can DH Q. Just don't play him at 3rd, you don't have to in order to get him playing time. As for "it's not broke, don't fix it", that's one of the dumbest arguments of all time as I'm sure you know since you pointed out the 2005 example, for instance. I certainly hope nobody in our organization is dumb enough to think that. Yes, the team overall isn't broke, but you can still fix the parts that need a tune up. And the DH, at the very least, needs one of those.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) I think she would appreciate that he went to look for it. He's the hunter after all. After you hook her, thats when you back away to make her crazy. Indeed, that's ideally how you do it. Often times, it's the woman that hooks the guy and then backs away to make him crazy. It sounds like Rowand has the opportunity to turn the tables in that regard though, and if he can succesfully pull that off, he's in great shape.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) Ask one of your mutual friends for her number. Not only will you get it, but she will hear you asked for it and went the extra mile. Yeah, this is probably the best plan of action actually.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) Gawker, while always careful about being legal about the stories they run, does have a history of being rather scummy. Oh no, it's definitely legal (I think, Soxbadger would be a far better judge of that than I am). You're also right that Gawker in general (and Deadspin specifically, mainly since AJ took over) is scummy, which is why Sterger really wasn't smart in telling AJ that story.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:37 PM) By saying he has not integrity are you saying it's a false story. or just that it's a POS article? Well the way I read it, he basically was told a story off the record, agreed to sit on it for a while, then just decided he didn't want to sit on it anymore because Favre is in the news right now, so he let it out. Unless I misread the article, it didn't seem like Sterger wanted that story out there, yet he just let it fly anyways, which is pretty rough. Like I said, Sterger deserves blame too for trusting somebody she shouldn't have, but that's pretty shoddy on Daluerio's part just deciding eff it, time to release this story. And the timing of it really makes him look like an attention whore (although I'm sure he's just trying to get more hits for his site).
  12. Daluerio has absolutely no integrity at all, I remember why I don't read that site anymore now. Certainly Jenn Sterger deserves some blame too for telling somebody like that a story she didn't want to get out there though. Have to be more careful with who you trust. However, with all of that said, it's a pretty funny story.
  13. I think Turco puts up very similar numbers to what Niemi would (with better puckhandling skills to boot) next year at less than half the rate, so it seems like a good move short term. (although Marty will likely be judged by his postseason performance, not his regular season one). Long term, goalie is a question mark obviously, but if you accept the Niemi arbirtation ruling and he has a decent season, his price moves above 3 million dollars after 2010-2011, maybe even to 4 million. Would you want to pay Niemi that much? I wouldn't.
  14. Yeah I'd definitely say wait it out until the next softball game (and get her number!) As for being in the same group of friends, you're right that it could get really weird and awkward, not going to lie there. The two questions you have to ask yourself are this: 1. Is she interested? (Sounds like she is). 2. Is trying to make a move, and the potential of being with her, worth the risk of making things awkward with the other friends? If the answers to both of those are yes in your mind, I'd say go for it.
  15. Yeah, the only big difference between Harrell and Torres' outings was that Torres couldn't get out of the two out jam in the 2nd inning last night and gave up the three extra runs, whereas Harrell was fortunate enough to have a great play made for him by Rios to save him from giving up multiple runs in the 2nd inning in his game. Neither of them seemed to have much of a clue where the ball was going.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:59 AM) The concept of a "living constitution" seems to be one of the greatest conservative enemies out there. It's like a lot of other issues. The living constitution types tend to want to make the constitution a bit too flexible, and the rigid text people tend to think there is basically no wiggle room for a document originally written more than 220 years ago. I think it also depends on what part of the constitution you're looking at. For instance, obviously guns rights people will turn into rigid constitutional literalists when it comes to the second amendment.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 03:33 AM) I almost get the feeling some stubborn posters don't want any inside information. Which is crazy. It's like they know Kotsay sucks and don't want to hear ANYTHING to the contrary. I mean I think he sucks as well, but if there are reasons for keeping him around and Ranger knows them, it is of value to us to learn those reasons IMO. I'm not quite sure where you're going with this. The only "inside information" reason to keep Kotsay is he's good in the clubhouse. But being good in the clubhouse does not make up for being a horrible baseball player. There is no practical joke or clubhouse speech that can change the fact that Dayan Viciedo and Brent Lillibridge are contributing to this team at a significantly higher clip on the field than Kotsay is. And that's why it's a no brainer that he should be gone when Teahen is back. Winning breeds chemistry, not the other way around. QUOTE (balfanman @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 03:00 AM) Ozzie can be extremely stubborn at times, but he isn't stupid. I think just on general merits, Ozzie is a smart baseball man. But his level of stubborn is VERY high, and it gets in the way of logic far too frequently for him, which makes him look dumb.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 12:09 AM) Probably wise to not hold your breath. No way they are going to DFA a guy who played both ends of a DH today. Oz actually considers him one of his better players obviously if he played both ends of the DH at his age. At some point, KW has to overrule Oz IMO. It's one thing to let Oz make a borderline decision, but this is basically common sense here.
  19. I will say in Ranger's defense that he has to deal with some serious dummies on the postgame show. So if he comes across as condescending, stubborn, and arrogant there, I can see how it happens. I don't even blame him for towing the company line, because at the end of the day, he wants to keep his job I'm sure. But the posters here are a lot smarter than the callers he gets, and I think he needs to understand that. Ranger is not smarter about the White Sox than everybody or anybody here just because he hosts the postgame show, so if he wants to come here and defend the White Sox, he's going to have to bring stronger arguments than what I typically see if he wants to be taken seriously. Or in other words, he's held to the exact same standard of any other poster (at least in my eyes).
  20. The problem I have with Ranger's point is odds. If this team loses this division by 4 or 5 games, then yeah, it's probably because the pitching failed. But I think it's much more likely if we fail that it'll only be by a game or two, and I think it's certainly very feasible that we could pitch well the rest of the way and lose by that margin. At such a point, you have to look at the offense, and the first two people you look at are AJ and Kotsay. Considering AJ at least contributes by calling a good game behind the plate, that means Kotsay is really the first person that is looked at. Divisions aren't often lost by 1 or 2 games because of something as broad as pitching, but moreso something as specific as giving a terrible player at bats when there were clearly better options.
  21. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) And today is exactly why I wanted to see Buehrle or Jackson on 4-days rest vs. Orioles than see Torres pitch vs. Detroit..... Ugh. Lol it's fine. We got a doubleheader split, gained a half game on Minnesota, saved the entire bullpen for BOTH games except Linebrink and Pena (so everybody out there other than those two is now on at least 2 days rest), and now can pitch everybody from the rotation on regular rest from this point forward. Plus, we got Sale up here without losing Threets (since he has a fake injury), and Viciedo and Lillibridge are still here for now. I actually consider today a significant success. The roster is about set at what it should be if we DFA Kotsay when Teahen is called up, but obviously i'm not holding my breath there.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Merged with the already extant winner thread to make you look bad.
  23. They're putting him on waivers because basically everybody gets put on waivers. I wouldn't read too much into it, he won't be moved unless somebody offers a ridiculous deal. And if that didn't happen pre deadline, why would it now?
  24. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) I love watching Viciedo murder the ball. All I'm asking for is one walk. Just one, man. Haha this is so true. The other day I remember him having a 3-0 count, and then he proceeded to take a strike and hit a single on the next 2 pitches. He was at 1st base, just like he would have been had he walked, but I'd have felt a million times better had he walked. I'm hoping it's like other milestones in that once it happens, the floodgates will open (relatively speaking for a guy that swings as much as he does, of course).
  25. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) I can barely handle one woman as it is. But having two in the equation?! I'm not Superman. Haha at least you are willing to admit this (I'm right with you on it as well). I think this is true for just about all of us, but a lot of guys won't admit it.
