  1. Twelves times more likely to molest? At least they were creative with the number they made up. I also enjoy seeing "the internet" in quotes like that.
  2. This reminds me of one of our earlier season games right now. Singles and caught stealings galore, but not much in the way of runs.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Compared to 2003? Absolutely. Yeah, he's lost closer to three steps than he has one since those days.
  4. Looks like we're gonna have to do it ourselves again today in order to not lose ground. I'm not a big fan of this pitching matchup though. Hopefully Scherzer thinks he can just man up and throw gas by us, because that strategy generally doesn't work against our guys.
  5. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) I think he deserves some credit for the change in approach we've seen from the team is a hole. Anyone who still says Walk is a "lift and pull" coach hasn't watched this season at all. That said, he probably didn't have much to do with our struggles or are successes, which is why I was never on the Fire Walk bandwagon. At the very least, good for him for getting the fans off his back. Couldn't agree more on the bolded, that's probably the biggest general change I've seen this year. The bottom line at the moment to me though is we're 7th in the AL in runs at the moment, and I was thinking we'd be more in the 10th to 12th range.
  6. I wonder if they'd consider giving Sale a shot in the rotation if Garcia leaves and Peavy has a setback.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:43 AM) And those 2 girls having sex with each other in front of me aren't having gay sex because I say so. Absolutely. The girls aren't having sex with each other, they're both having sex with me.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:40 AM) No, I think he's really due for one. I would tend to agree with this. I'm not even sure this current, washed up version of Kotsay is THIS bad.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) I think Kotsay hits a bomb to right today. If he does, it'll be caught on the warning track. And then Hawk will say Mark would be hitting .300 with any luck.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:08 AM) Yeah. We should be able to have married couples have 3-ways but gays shouldn't even marry at all. The sanctity of marriage!! But dude! That's different! Hot chicks making out and having sex with me is cool! But gay people, that's weird and different and immoral. Gross! Three ways=Cool, because I get to have sex with two chicks. Gay=Weird. Can't you see the difference? It's SO obvious, and definitely not hypocritical.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:02 AM) What difference does it make if the gay couple next door is married or not? I'm much more concerned with if my neighbor is an asshole than I am if they're gay.
  12. I'll never understand how somebody can be against same sex marriage being legal. If you're not gay or morally against it, don't do it! But to want to withhold rights to a group of people because you think it's different or you think it's weird or even due to it being against your beliefs is kind of silly. As a straight person who goes to church, I just don't see how allowing gay people to get married impacts me negatively (or at all, really).
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) I would really like shortened training camps/preseason whether they add two more regular season games or not. I can't stand the media coverage of Bourbanais (sp?). I can't stand media coverage of the Bears in general. Always so endlessly positive during camp (deserved or not), and even when they suck during the regular season, you have some real lapdogs in this town for that franchise.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) This. Plus the fact that it's become obvious Ozzie isn't going to change anything. And as frustrating as that may be, I'd personally find it frustrating to allow myself to get all up in arms over and over when you basically know in advance what to expect. This team certainly can still play well and make the playoffs, and I actually tend to think they'll do both. But when you're playing an inferior player when they're are superior options, people are going to get pissed. Particularly in a close pennant race where every game is so big.
  15. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:31 AM) I certainly hope that Kenny does look at this with cold blood, and I do believe he will. However, I think his analysis will involve more than just what's on the back of Kotsay's baseball card, because based on that alone, its a total and complete no-brainer. If our clubhouse is fragile enough that removing one of the worst players from it will have a noteably negative impact, than it wasn't built particularly well in the first place.
  16. That guy had one thing right: batting average doesn't mean everything. Q is hitting .237, but he walks enough to keep his OBP in the .340 range and slugs .500, so nobody really cares about the batting average part of his offense. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Kotsay.
  17. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:19 AM) I think the bat burning thing said alot about how he is regarded. Its total specualtion on my part, but I'd guess if the players held a secret vote, they'd vote to keep him. This is an organization that values loyalty and operates by "feel" more than most. In this instance, you could very well say they do it to a fault, but I still say he's staying. I don't argue with any of this (and I would definitely take the side that we're loyal to a fault). I just wish we'd understand that sometimes, the players and even the manager, who tend to have a bunker, us agaisnt the world mentality, don't always know what's best for the team. Although that thought process doesn't include the idea that Kenny wants Kotsay to stay too, and if he does, we're just epically screwed because he should know better.
  18. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) I think we might have been hosed if Rizzo did take Jackson in a trade for Dunn. Who would have been the 5th guy in the rotation? I know Brett Myers was brought up, but who could the Sox have traded to Houston for him? Myers signed an extension in Houston, which is one of the reasons I'm now skeptical of the idea we traded for Jackson specifically to acquire Dunn, and then were caught with our pants down when Rizzo changed his mind. It seems like we just wanted Jackson IMO, perhaps with one of the reasons being the doubt about Peavy's long term prognosis.
  19. I post this with trepidation because I don't have any advanced metrics in front of me, but it seems like Bobby needs to just ditch the cutter and slider (especially the cutter) for the most part, and just stick mainly with the hard fastball and curveball. He seems to get into trouble when he tries to be a 4 pitch pitcher.
  20. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) CNN poll: 41% of Republicans believe Obama was not born in the United States. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/...as-born-in-u-s/ That's pretty scary, actually.
  21. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) Kotsay is NOT leaving the team, and I don't necessarily want him to, I just don't want him in the regular line-up. The team (players, coaches and front office) really seems to like and respect him. Those of us who eat, sleep and drink the White Sox have all heard what a great clubhouse guy he is and how much "intangible" leadership stuff he brings to the club. Given the turnaround this team has accomplished, that absolutely cannot be ignored or discounted. I'm not saying its all due to Kotsay, but without those kind of "intangibles," this season dies back in June. There's no question that if he was a jagoff like Swisher, he'd be gone. But he isn't. He isn't going away because (imo) nobody who has any say in the matter--especially in the culbhouse--wants him to go away, regardless if he hits or not. Its just us, because all we see is his suckitude. I do think Ozzie will give Teahen a lot of Kotsay's at bats, but those that think he's getting cut at this late date of the season are just not being real. There is no place on the team for Kotsay once Teahen is back. Up until Teahen's return, there has been a place for him, which is why my issue has been how often he's played, not the fact he's on the team in general. Once Teahen comes back though, the issue becomes the fact that Kotsay on this team in general. Even if I give you that his clubhouse presence "helped" the team when they were down and out, the fact is they're not down and out anymore. We need the best players who will produce, contribute, and carry this team into the playoffs, and once Teahen is back, Kotsay isn't among them.
  22. I'm sure this was already addressed in this thread, but does this trade show a lack of confidence in Hudson short term, a lack of confidence in Hudson long term, a lack of confidence in the long term prognosis of Jake Peavy after his weird injury, the belief that Edwin Jackson can thrive under Coop, all of the above, or some of the above?
  23. Consider me in favor of this motion.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:48 AM) I just need to try and stop thinking about this situation before I get a brain aneurysm. If you think it's fun here now, imagine this place at the end of the season if Kotsay keeps hitting like this and we miss the playoffs by a game or two.
  25. I would actually say that all things considered, yes he does deserve some credit. So well done, Greg.
